I finally booked in for one online after seeing Elizabeth tweeting. I like people who are good at social media, and this (and her user friendly, helpful website) were the reason I chose her. I actually forgot to check where she was based until the morning. I knew it was the city centre but hadn't checked where! Thankfully she is right near Buchanan Street underground/Queen Street station so it was super easy to get to. It's easy to find too, it's right near the Carlton George and has good signage. Entering the Glasgow Treatment Rooms, you get the smell of a massage place - I think they must all use the same candles! You press the buzzer for the person you're seeing and take a seat. She popped out pretty quickly to say hello, and gave me a sheet to fill out with questions about allergies etc. Not long after I was shown into the massage room. The room was spacious and warm and looked really comfy. Just one massage table in the middle of the room with a couple of seats for your pre-massage chat. She went through a few questions about whether I had any particular pain to address and what my preference was. She was super friendly, helpful and bubbly so I was pretty relaxed. I didn't tell her at the time but I can get quite uncomfortable getting massages if I don't feel happy with the person, meaning I end up being really tense, but thankfully there was none of that here! I got a full body massage, and she focused on my legs (I get a lot of quad tightness from roller derby) as well as my neck and shoulders (hunching while working on the laptop!). It was relaxing and I felt comfortable at all stages, she would explain why she was massaging my glutes (hamstring goes all the way up there) and had good chat, but not too much chat that I couldn't relax! She also managed to unpop (not a medical term) the knot I've had in my shoulder which was an awesome feeling. Afterwards she had a chat about areas of concern - unsurprisingly, my quads and hips from skating. I've also been told this about a physio so I wasn't surprised! I'm planning another visit at the end of the month where she is going to be a bit more heavy handed on me! I felt super relaxed and a lot looser afterwards, and because she used cream rather than oil, I didn't feel greasy all day. For a 1 hour massage it was £40 which I think is great value. Importantly, she does't have card facilities so make sure you have cash.

I'm a bit of a fusspot about my skin, so I was a little apprehensive. First things first, this salon is a bit tricky to find - it's under the arches but it's very easy to walk straight past it (I did, countless times). You'll find it on the left if you're walking towards the radisson blu hotel on argyle street. It's right under the arches of Glasgow Central station. It does say beauty in the window but it's easily missed because many of the shops are painted in the same green. When you get in you'll be greeted by friendly faces and lots of welcoming. You'll be made to feel right at home. I must admit I felt a little nervous because it's not the best looking salon I've seen. It could do with a little tidy up and it's certainly not a haven of peace, you'll hear trains running over the top of you (it's under the train bridge) and it's noisy with hairdressing if you're in one of the treatment rooms. So why the five stars. Margaret (?) was my therapist and she was lovely. We did a microdermabrasion and she did a fantastic job. A really thorough cleanse, lovely products and a pain free process (microdermabrasion can leave you red faced if the therapist goes too far with it!) The liquorice mask reminded me of many a night drinking sambuca (urgh) but it was worth it. It tingles a bit (which scared me) but don't be scared, it'll settle down and it was worth it! I came out of the salon glowing, and a few hours later, my skin had never looked better. Normally when I get it done in London, it takes a few days to show the effects. Not so here. I got so many comments on my skin that evening and actually it has felt great ever since. Even better, it's an absolute steal (compared to what I pay in London, at least). If I'm back in town, I'll be headed here.

A bikini wax can set you back up to £30 in Glasgow and so you are faced with the predicament of compromise- how cheap do you go without sacrificing hygiene, professionalism and your dignity? After recommendations from friends, I opted for Beauty In The City which seemed to offer good value for money. A small salon convieniently located on Argyle Street, hidden beneath the 'Heilenman's Umbrella' (that's Central Station bridge to the non-locals) it specialises in waxing, massage and nail care. I decided to go for the Brazilian which at £17 was more risky than a 'Playboy' but less intimidating than the 'Hollywood'. The salon seemed clean and well organised and I was pleased at how quickly I was seen. I was in and out in 20minutes and despite being the last appointment of the day, I didn't feel rushed. Beauty in The City is more Glasgow glam that city chic with hot pink walls and over-tanned members of staff to match. However, it benefits from another Glaswegian trait- incredibly friendly service. Beauty treatments are given from girls who will chat like they've known you for years. My beautician immediately put me at ease when I felt apprehensive, vulnerable and exposed. She was clear about exactly what she was going to do and made the whole process as pleasant as possible. A bikini wax is not for the faint-hearted however my discretion was considered throughout and I was made to feel comfortable. I'll definitely be going back.

The massages are good- rather on the efficient than luxurious side, but they have a good range of approaches, as well as having excellent cosmetic advisers. The best thing about this spa is the ambiance: soft lighting, discreet rooms, a sense of well-being is immediately conjured upon entry. It is usually easy to book for a session on the same day, and the staff are more than willing to give great advice.

The receptionist was warm and welcoming and my hairdresser was too. I got a head massage before my haircut and was also offered a hand massage. My hairdresser was lovely and seemed genuinely interested in what I was chatting about. I left with a great haircut and felt very confident when the staff complimented me on my way out. A nice haircut for half the price, canny beat it!

Lovely salon, but always make sure you know exactly what your stylist is doing. I didn't pay attention and it still brings me out in a cold sweat thinking about it. My hair was falling out a few months ago so I think I'm entitled to be a princess about it.

Scott takes care of the hairdressing side of things and ny hair has never looked better. Bo matter how busy he is he always makes sure your hair is in perfect condition before you walk out the door. I never feel rushed at all. Plenty of fun and laughs to be had at this salon which is what keeps bringing me back time and time again. Nothing is too much trouble for these guys. Prices are excellent for the service provided and usually can get an appointment to suit. There is some parking available on the main road but it is meters. Closed on a monday.

The amazing thing about this place are their Last minute deals on their website. I managed to scoop up a cut and style and a manicure both at discounted prices, both perfectly last minute before new years eve! I started my day of beauty with a shellac manicure. Typically, I go to these wham bam thank you ma'am kind of nail salons that are looking for a quick turnover. I was in shock when i was led down to the massage area of the salon and was given a manicure in one of the massage rooms. It was so peaceful and relaxing and the nail technician was friendly to boot. It's a rare occasion that any nail technician is chatty, let alone honestly seems like she cares about what you're saying. It was a nice touch. Next, she did my eyebrows, which were in desperate need of a good shaping. Again, another relaxing experience, everything was sanitary and clean, unlike other places in Glasgow that I've been to before. After I had my nails and brows done, i was led back upstairs to meet Jade, the stylist who did my hair. I always go in to Aveda when I want a change, and this time was no different. I was taken by an assistant who offered a complimentary head massage while I waited for Jade. Usually, I can take those or leave them, but I'm glad I took her up on the offer. With just enough pressure, she massaged my head and it was like heaven. I was just getting over a chest cold that was holding on for dear life, so it felt really nice to be pampered for a bit. She then took me over to wash my hair, which is always a treat, because Aveda products are by far my favourite and I always love using them. After that, the magic happened. My hair was just about past my shoulders and I decided to get an inverted bob. This style suits my face shape and it really brightens up my features. Jade is an amazing stylist, who is chatty and very confident when she's cutting hair. In between the cut and the styling, she blow dried part of my hair dry to get a better feel for how to cut it. While that was happening, the assistant offered me a hot bevvy, which I chose Hot Chocolate. She also gave me a complimentary hand massage. I was on cloud nine by the time I walked out of there. Of course I loved the end result and so did my guy, who I met for drinks after. It really was an amazing experience as always and I would highly recommend Jade as your stylist and James Dun's House as your salon!

When they cut your hair they offer free scalp and hand massages and a free make-up touch-up, so when I leave the salon I feel amazing. This Glasgow branch is very nice, very trendy and modern, but it's very much in the shadows of the Aberdeen branch and so has higher prices to boot. Although it is a lovely salon and the staff are brilliant, the prices are a bit steep. The Aberdeen branch is brilliant, however!!

I have been for a massage twice now and the first time I went I fell in love with her comfortable HEATED massage bed. I felt like I was melting into it. The massage itself was excellent - good pressure to suit your own preference and I felt great afterwards. I got the best night's sleep that night :) I am hoping for a repeat performance tonight. Oh and I almost forgot to mention, her prices are reasonable too. What's not to like?

One of my friends has been going here since she was about 9 and always goes here to get her hair styled for a party or special ocassion and her hair always looks amazing. The prices range depending on who is cutting your barnet. For a stylist it's £30, senior stylist £40 and by the creative director it's £50. They also do hair conditioning and replenishing treatments that start from a whopping £100. A very modern salon, very organised and not a hair out of place. Literally.

After the bullying incident at another Merchant City salon, I thought I'd wait until I was back in NYC to get my hair done. Except my hair became annoyingly long, and that's where Chloe at Alan Edwards came to the rescue. Cute and quirky, she was exactly the opposite of the stylist during my last salon experience (*cough* Chesne). She actually listened to what I wanted, did not roll her eyes when I showed her a picture of the shape (a long bob), nor did she try and bully me into dying my hair or try to sell me products that I didn't need (though I did end up buying the Kérastase volume spray because it smells DIVINE!). My haircut was actually part of an itison deal, but after my experience and subsequent visits (I have since gone much shorter with trust), I would not hesitate to pay full price for the quality of service received. I think Alan Edwards Merchant City and Chloe might be a keeper... just might!
