I visited on a rainy Thursday night so there wasn't a large crowd and I grabbed an open seat at the end of the bar. A friendly gentleman gave me a menu and asked what I was interested in. When I mentioned the Old Fashioned, he advised that it was an Amaro-based version without the usual bourbon/whiskey spirit. I noticed a Brooklyn and commented that I sometimes made those at home. Very politely he noted that if I was making them in the US, it wasn't with Amer Picon, which isn't available in the US. He's right. So an actual, real Brooklyn it would be! I thoroughly enjoyed the Brooklyn. I also enjoyed some brief conversation with the bartender who was very good. The kind who uses the spoon or straw to taste each drink to ensure it was made properly. As I was paying my bill and mentioning to the gentleman who initially greeted me that I wanted to bring my business partners here later in the week, he wrote his phone number on a business card and told me to call him in advance as the bar got very busy when it wasn't raining. Turns out, this friendly man is Alberto the owner! Guess I didn't do quite as much research as I could have! I regret we weren't able to make a second visit to 1862 Dry Bar on this particular trip, but it is going to be my first stop next time I'm back in Madrid. Great vibe, excellent staff and a classy and friendly owner.

We had the empanadillas de bonito casera (they gave us 3 each) along with the pincho de tortilla, which was also a yummy dish that my friend really loved. It's too bad we were only in town for two days, so we didn't get the opportunity to come back and try more of the menu :/ the service was good and the restaurant staff was very friendly. Would definitely come back if I were to ever return to Madrid (and I hope that I do)!

Fuimos por el día del padre porque nos lo había recomendado un amigo (que va a otro de la misma…read morecadena pero en fuenlabrada) Teníamos reserva a las 9:30 (que se supone que duran 2 horas, y cuando pasan las 2 horas te tienes que ir) y cuando llegamos entramos dijimos que habíamos llegado y nos dijeron que nos sentaramos y esperaramos. Estabamos en la terraza, y solamente tenían una camarera( Valeria, a la que quiero felicitar, por que a pesar de que tenía el día libre vino a ayudar y además se comió el marronazo que fue la falta de organización del establecimiento) para las 6 mesas (grandes) de la terraza. La pobre chica iba corriendo de una mesa a otra y estubimos más de media hora esperando a las bebidas. Pedimos un entrante, 3 hamburguesas y 2 sándwiches, y nos dijeron que iban a tardar un poco.Trajeron el entrante pero estuvimos un montón de tiempo esperando. Al rededor de las 22:45 nos empezaron a traes aperitivos que no habíamos pedido como "disculpa" de cocina. No nos trajeron nuestra comida hasta aproximadamente las 23:00 (llevábamos ya 1 hora y media esperando, y las reservas se supone que duran 2 horas). Además la comida no estaba buena, pedimos un sándwich chick n'smoke que estaba malo, dos hamurguesas macanudas que tenían los macarrones y el queso rancios (la otra hamburguesa y el otro sandwich estaban bien). Por lo menos al hablar con el encargado, al que le expresamos tanto nuestra satisfacción con Valeria como nuestro enorme descontento con la experiencia en general nos ofreció no cobrarnos las bebidas (que eran unas cuantas debido a la larga espera).
