Knowing we only had less than 2 days to tour the monuments, in addition to the fact that my mother in her older age doesn't have as many steps in her as she used to - I was trying to get creative with our schedule to make the most of our time. A quick google search helped me land on this company. I always forget that the monuments in DC are quite spread out. Being on a bike is definitely your best option. I emailed the company on a Tuesday night before our trip and had a response immediately the next morning. Our guide Robert was very thorough, friendly, and flexible with our schedule. He also gave us a great suggestion to skip the Air and Space museum as part of it was under construction. He definitely knows DC quite well. He met us on the tail end of our visit at the Natural History museum and over the course of 3 hours we were able to see the Washington monument, Jefferson memorial, Mason memorial, MLK, Lincoln, Korean War, Vietnam War, and finally ended near the White House. We also would have had time for one more if we didn't take a break for lunch. Highly highly recommend this if your needs are similar to what I described above. Other than the predictable crowds at the Lincoln Memorial, we were virtually the only people at the majority of major sites on the tour. You aren't surrounded by the smog of multiple tour buses, nor hoards of other tourists. The meeting point is right in front of the Willard Hotel with the blue awnings, and just to give you a preview of the sorts of interesting details shared by the gregarious Chris, and the scholarly Reed, here you are. When Ulysses S. Grant was president, he used the Willard often for private meetings so when others clued into this behavior they would show up in the hopes of catching him for a few minutes or merely to overhear what was said. These interlopers were said to linger in the lobby awaiting his arrival, so he took to calling them, lobbyists. I love these sorts of facts! These men put their all into the tour, both literally with muscle power, as they deftly maneuver various barriers along the way, and with all their fantastic knowledge of the place. We spent almost four hours and I could easily have done an entire day with these gentlemen, as every minute was a discovery and a pleasure. Walked all the way to the address given for the US Capitol at Garfield Circle stop, Just to find out the big bus doesn't come here anymore. Tried to take a lift to find the bus at one of the other stops. But after 10 minutes, the Lyft ride canceled on us. Finally ended up getting tickets for the old town trolley. Big Bus was such a waste of money. And no way to get a hold of them to even ask for a refund. Use the Old Town Trolley!!!!

Dolphins, osprey with fish in their talons, lighthouses, a drawbridge, and a chill approach to life. He navigated us Tilghman island... let us rest, eat and swim... then returned us safely to our lives in DC. The 38 ft sloop is awesome, well cared for and handled great in some chop. Paul knows his stuff and is so willing to share that knowledge. Tip: Each person should pack their own ziplock bags & drinks in a small backpack and carry it with them. We were not all together most of the time so having 1 backpack for family wasn't convenient. Also, pretty obvious, but a backpack is much more sensible than a bag with handles when you are searching for shark teeth and fossils and need to use your hands. It was a great day & it really sparked some curiosity about not only the shark teeth but also the geology and oceanography!

Went on the Georgetown Waterfront GLOW tour. The guide did a good job on the Georgetown waterfront…read morepart, but was totally lacking on the GLOW part. The tour was at 6:30 pm in the daylight. When we got to the first exhibit, she said she didn't know where the lighting was or how it would look. When we asked about the GLOW experience, she said, "Oh, I guess it was false advertising." We left the tour and plan to go back later on our own when it's dark.

I took the World War I focused tour of Arlington Cemetery and was really surprised at the…read moreuniqueness of the tour. Since I live in northern Virginia, I have been able to take many tours of Arlington Cemetery by many companies, but this tour was completely unique. Brenda, our tour guide, did an amazing job of explaining the deep connection of Arlington Cemetery to World War I, the birth of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, why the Tomb is guarded, 24-7, General Robert Pershing, and it was all fantastic, but she also showed us the Gravesite of James Reese Europe, the African American pre-Jazz great who fought for and was injured with the Fighting 369th, nicknamed the Harlem Hellcats. Possible the most amazing story was that of fellow Fighting 369th member Henry Johnson who single handedly took on 20 German Fighters and won, saving the life of his partner who had been injured. I highly recommend this tour, even if you have already gone on tours of Arlington Cemetery. It will show you a side of our military history that most tours miss!
