Unlike most places I've been around here where the front desk employee kinda looks at you weird like they're wondering why you're bothering them with your presence. The YMCA in West Boise offers a great experience for any newcomer to the gym or long time veterans who are just coming in to work out.

The problem is, we called ahead to get information since we'd never been before & at the front desk reiterated we had never been so wanted to make sure we were good to go info. However, the staff at the front desk was unpleasant and offered almost no information. You must have your ID with you which we had to go 20 minutes back for and was not told that on the phone. We brought 4 kids, two that can swim and two that can't yet so we borrowed life jackets and they swam for almost an hour in the non kiddie pool only to be told you can't be in here even with a life jacket so they kicked them out into the kiddie pool. Then they kept asking for necklaces which we didn't know what that meant and finally a lifeguard said they tell us if they can swim or not. This was an hour in style that point and they'd been swimming without them. The signage to the pools is atrocious and unclear. The bathrooms were dirty as were multiple spots in the pool. I even asked about memberships for the future, & the front desk person said "oh idk you'll need to call the manager" and walked away. I'm glad it was only $4 because it was a very stressful experience and next time we want to take the kids swimming, I think we will find somewhere else.

The womens steam room is honestly disgusting -- visible slime buildup has remained on the floors and walls in the same spots for months, and the odor is terrible. When concerns or questions have been brought up to management, it is meet with disregard or sales-tactic excuses, & I am told these are all "normal". Very disingenuous response from management. The basic maintenance and sanitation of the facility are flat out ignored. The gym itself has a lot of potential. Its a shame that the pool/locker room facilities reflects a complete lack of care and pride in what could otherwise a nice location to enjoy.

You could say I've become obsessed. Im so much stronger with muscles for the first time in my life. I think the cherry on top is the music. You get so pumped up you push yourself to do a better workout. I never thought fun and workout could be in the same sentence but this studio changed my life ! A year and a half later, I still Lagree 5 days a week. Best part, you can pretty much take a class anywhere. When I travel out of the state and country I've always been able to continue on vacation. LA, Chicago, Pittsburgh, London, Germany everywhere. Definitely check this place out, i promise you will be impressed. So thankful Cathy brought Lagree to Boise !
