This restaurant is located in the building of a 12th Century monastery, and located behind a goony golf course. Had I not had it recommended so highly by our Air B&B hosts, we'd probably have eaten elsewhere. We each decided on the lamb shank with carrots and mashed potatoes. The Lovely Bride broke her habit of never getting a starter and went for the poached pear tart with onion jam and fried blue cheese balls. This was a wonderful study in tasty contrasts: the savory hot cheese, the sweet/tangy onion jam, and the cool sliced pear over a flaky thin pie crust. Luckily, she decided to go halfsies before she tasted it!
The lamb, like most red meat in the British Isles, was served a little more done than I care for, but it was still juicy and flavorful. The carrots had a nice glaze that enhanced their freshness, and the potatoes tied it all together. I tried both the house Malbec and the house Cabernet. The Cab, of course, was better for the lamb, but both were adequate representations of the varietal. Overall a good meal with pleasant service.
There is an outdoor seating area, which I'm sure is quite full later in the season. It's located just across the Promenade from the beach, which has easy access from the sidewalk. read more
