We hired Aaron to host a drumming session for toddlers ages 2-6 as part of a 5k run fundraiser in October 2022 for the Los Gatos-Saratoga Observation Nursery School. It was the best decision!! This is me writing from COVID-19 land (context is always important). We were told to stay home, lay low, keep safe. We've been doing that for two months now. Our smiles are impossible to see, if they're there, as we pass each other on the street. We are avoiding eye contact because that could lead to the slippery slope of handshakes and hugs and worse! awkward side-steps as one of us remembers that we have to keep our distance. And then we heard the drums! Drums! The instrument meant to carry a vibration over long distances, to connect us to our pulse and hook us up off of our butts into movement. Aaron did all of this online through Sweet Rhythms: Shelter in Sweetness, an online gathering to drum beats. Aaron started off the connection, broke us into small groups to get to know one another, and then we came together to sounds generated by everyone on the call. The kicker of this experience was the bhangra dance lesson by Dholrhythms Dance Company. It allowed us an outlet for the pent up inertia we've all been collecting in our bodies as we've slowed down and kept quiet. It is a joyous, rhythmic, energetic dance and it felt so good to sweat and see other people bopping along on the screen. I can only imagine how impactful this is in person if, online, it was such a good time. read more

Wow, what an experience. I met Aaron leading his drum session on a Late night art event I went with few friends in Oakland. I LOVE music, but I never played an instrument, besides that night. Aaron gave off an amazing experience when we all drum together, using our body, our mind and mostly our passion. When Aaron told me about his new online program Sweet Rhythms: Sheltering in Sweetness, I knew I would support him and gather my friends around the country to participate. But I secretly wondered if this would be our kind of thing. I love hearing him play drums in the many jazz groups he's part of, but drumming online? And Bhangra dancing (folk dances of India)? I mean, I'm 72. And I'm from no nonsense Pittsburgh. But I gathered friends from Denver, Fort Mills, South Carolina, Los Angeles, Pasadena, West Virginia and the Burg. How silly to have doubted. First, I was warmed by how he welcomed each of us and made us feel like we had just entered his private studio. Then, I was impressed with how adept he was with Zoom. He had obviously spent hours figuring out how to make it work together seamlessly so we 30 or so participants felt connected. We were to bring something with which to make rhythm. All I could come up with was a box of Cheerios. But no matter what we brought, he got us making simple sounds at first and then quickly pulled us into his magical world of rhythm with no intimidation. Smiles from all across the country and the world erupted in our individual Zoom tiles filling the screen. And the dancing with Vicki Virk. Well, it was the most I'd moved in weeks and it felt so good. Seeing my friends up and moving and laughing brought such happiness to my heart. The hour and half went so fast. During this time of social distancing, I must say that I have never felt so connected to humanity. And that is all because of Aaron Kierbel. He is a light in the world. When the pandemic hit in early 2020, and we had to shelter in place, I had a lot of empathy for all the folks who had to celebrate their birthdays, graduations, weddings and other rites of passage in a restricted way. When my birthday rolled around in September, I suddenly found myself in the same situation. I wanted to make my birthday unforgettable, and bring my circle of friends together in person, but in a safe way. So I immediately thought of Aaron and RhythmALLogy! Drumming together in a physically-distanced circle is the ideal way to celebrate any major life event during COVID times. I have hired Aaron for multiple in person events - school music & movement classes for Elementary aged kids and adult drumming staff events for our non-profit programs. He is fabulous! I can't recommend him enough! He is able to meet the diverse range of needs of the group and adjust to the moment and bring the kids and adults into the fun and learning and joy of drumming and music. The kids at the program I ran were all special needs students with severe mental health issues and often behavioral, emotional and social needs and they loved Aaron's music class and looked forward to it every week. My partner and I spent a wonderful afternoon in Oakland for a Rhythmallogy drum circle. We arrived with the circle of chairs and drums already set up and ready to play. Aaron, head Rhythmallogist, instructed us to choose a drum and he led us through 90 minutes of percussion games and activities. He started off teaching us a few key drum techniques, but the emphasis was on community and fun. We were encouraged to play and experiment with our drum and different rhythms.
