They want the best for their students and encourage their creativity through dance. The student's own dedication to the art will determine how much they flourish, and the teachers will support them throughout their journey. Many of the teachers also teach throughout the Northeast and the suburbs so they are well-known in the area. I'm happy to say I consider many of the teachers close friends as I've grown up with them. Thank you to the entire staff at Defino II for everything! It's great to see a family business that continues to grow after more than 50 years.

Parking is a pain (they have a small lot + street parking on one side of the road), they spent a lot of class time switching shoes (one time my husband watched when every little girl arrived to class in ballet shoes the teacher changed her mind and switched everyone's shoes to tap- over 10 minutes of class time wasted for this decision). They also had really poor communication about important things- like ticketed events being cancelled, but then no word for weeks about how/when refunds would be given. But none of these things were a huge deal breaker. Then came the deal breaker. My son wanted to take acro. He was enrolled in a 3&4 year old class. I don't know if they just had too many kids in the class for the teacher to handle or what, but one night my son had to use the bathroom during class. Instead of the teacher walking out to the waiting room to find me like they do in other classes (I am happy to assist my kids in any way) she took him out a different door to the bathroom and left him ALONE. TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER the parents were invited to watch the class and I was concerned when I didn't see my son. The teacher said he was in the bathroom and had been there for awhile. When I went to the bathroom here he was bawling his eyes out and the door wide open ALL ALONE. God only knows what could have happened to him. I was livid. I called Tricia herself the following day. She apologized, said it was not school policy to leave any young child alone, etc. but then after that the staff were like ice statues. Front desk staff especially (no small talk, no "hello" no eye contact.) When my son didn't want to return to class because he was scared of being left in the bathroom again they tried to charge me a drop fee. After I refused due to the circumstances the attitudes from the front desk staff got worse. That's when I decided to jump off this sinking ship. There's no way I could trust them with my kids at this point, and then being rude-just too much. And yes, they still socked me with a fee to leave. But still their loss considering what I would've spent over the years on dance classes for three kids. And after leaving TSDC and going to a much nicer dance school I have to say that TSDC really isn't worth it. There are better, nicer, cheaper options in the area.

The students that attend this studio are encouraged to set high standards in both their academic education and dance education. The teachers are amazing and from all different dance backgrounds. They are dedicated in making sure the students are strong and developed in their technique. The studio is very welcoming. You will always find a parent willing to help or share. My daughter goes through a lot of dance tights and I have been able to walk in and purchase a pair whenever needed. I am only reviewing Ballroom Joe's parties, which happen every month on the first Friday of the…read moremonth. Please note he also teaches a class every Wednesday at the Tango 411 studio in Media. Also, the address above is the address where this dance is held, which is the Rose Tree Fire House. In the interest of full disclosure, I have become good friends with Joe through attending his parties and lessons, and I occasionally help out here on a volunteer basis. This dance is my recommendation for all beginner dancers. The people are all very friendly, and are very beginner friendly. This dance boasts a one of a kind "coaching corner." If one is not familiar with the steps of a dance, you can go to the coaching corner where an experienced dancer will teach you the basic step of that dance. The free lesson at the beginning of the dances is also very beginner friendly. The food generally is pretty extensive and is enough for a simple meal, although I usually eat dinner again with all the calories I burn off (hahaha). There are usually two songs played back to back of the same dance throughout the evening so one can really practice that dance - another beginner friendly feature. A friendly tip: The firehouse can be tough to find. It is not right off of Providence road, but you have to make a quick turn across from the Wawa. Look for the Wawa, because it is really off of that small side street across from it.
