This bike shop is located just an 18 min walk from the Aveiro train station. You'll find the owners…read moreat the in the shop at the front. They're warm and friendly but only the wife speaks English so she tends to handle the rentals with tourists. We had reserved in advance online which was easy to do but we also went during the weekday so it was quiet. Helmets and a heavy bike chain are provided but a phone holder is extra. Since it was a new feature, they gave it to us for free this time! Note that you'll need a piece of ID to rent the bikes and they'll keep it for the duration of your ride. Don't forget to pick it up at the end! The e-bike has 4 modes, eco, touring, sport and turbo. It was my first time riding an e-bike and it was super easy! We did a 2hr ride and between eco and touring mode, the battery was only down by 10%. For avid cyclists, you'll find bike routes easily on Strava or Komoot. Just a note that the Strava app takes a lot of battery power from your phone so have some way to charge it back up! Alternatively, you can send a map to your Google maps account which is much more battery friendly. The route we took passes by the docks where you'll see the more industrial side of Aveiro. You'll have the smell of the sea, you'll pass by canneries, lots of docked rusty fishing boats, gravel roads, and riding alongside and crossing some highways. At the end of the ride, you'll be rewarded with a beach view. It's not a beginner's ride so I would recommend going on the nature trail instead for better scenery and an easier more pleasant ride. Returning the bikes was super easy.

Vieguini was offered up as a great place to start, and I'm glad it was the one I chose. The workers were extremely patient and kind with me, especially translating everything into accessible English. The prices were really reasonable and you can start low and they just charge you more if you bike more. They also give you a map and great suggestions on routes. I loved it so much I came back the next day to rent a bike again.

Hugo and his associate have advanced degrees and are knowledgeable about the history, industry, and economics of the fascinating country of Portugal. I regret not taking this tour earlier so that I could have visited other sights such as the "Port Wine & Douro Institute". My guide was able to educate me on both topics with equal fluency. The rowing was a bit harder than I thought it would be. The wind was against us. But everyone who signed up made it through fine. The scenery is fantastic. At one point we saw a herd of goats walking themselves along the river. Wildflowers in bloom. Gorgeous day. I'd read about them on Trip Advisor. Called a number we found for them here yesterday but didn't get through to anyone. So I sent them a message through Yelp. They tried calling back but couldn't get through to me and sent a message back. Before we got it we'd called them again this morning. They were already at the meeting point on the river, below the university. So they were nice enough to pick us up. And at the end they'll bring you back to the starting point if you need it. Then, Nancy left her phone in Jonas's jeep on the way back to the beginning. We called, got his mom, told her about the phone, and pretty quickly got it back. Anyway, we had a great time.
