I've had a few bad experiences, including recently when the local dentist I'd been going to for five years suddenly found 3 cavities after being bought out by a bigger practice!! I have a fear of needles, and would much rather pay to protect my teeth than drill them. I've had 2 cavities my whole life and still have all 4 wisdom teeth... so I was shocked. The last thing I really wanted to do was find a new dentist, but the threat of $800 worth of dental work plus needle and drilling was enough to make me look! Main Street Dental was recommended by a friend... plus the new patient exam and X-Rays (including the full scan) were FREE... which made me a little skeptical, but I had little to lose. What a GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! Normally, bitewing xrays make me gag, and I'm spitting out the mouthpiece as soon as I can. The new digital mouthpiece was so comfortable, it was easy to wait until Miranda came back... even on the wisdom teeth ones!! Then, Dr Osmun Sweden (spelling?) examined my teeth, and sat with me to review & discuss the X-Rays. He found 2 teeth to watch, but recommended against drilling, especially on one tiny spot.... he said drilling could potentially make it much worse and it could be more then 10 years before it ever became a problem. To say I was relieved is an understatement. I understand there are different dental philosophies but I really believed my former dentist shared my conservative and preventative approach. I had called around town and everyone wanted to charge $100+ just to review my x-rays, or had some negative reviews. Bottom line... if you are looking for a second opinion or just FEEL like you might be having some unnecessary dental procedures presented like facts... this is an awesome place to get a free look to decide if there's something better out there for you!! My NEW dentist said when we meet in 6 months we can decide if I need to come in every 6 months or 12! He put my fear of needles in my chart with options to help with that anxiety!
