It's a charming vintage guest house . For the price I give high marks as well . Paint on walls were newly done . Bedding was new . Comfortable . Refrigerator , coffee tea pot with food amenities . Situated close to many excellent restaurants . 6 minutes by car to Ferry . 15 minute walk to museum . 10 minute walk to Happiness Restaurant an excellent Asian restaurant .Safe neighborhood . It's a very quiet guest house with about 12 rooms . I will come back if I visit Wellington in the future . Medicine Woman read more

This place is weird but I guess you get what you pay for. The owners were extremely rude to me about being an hour late at checkout , despite every other room being empty and no one waiting for a room. I explained my ride was running late by an hour but was on the way to one person and a few minutes later another came down and banged on my door shouting " WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO LEAVE?" . I was quiet and respectful both nights I stayed here so I didn't understand why you would treat someone who is paying you that way. The rooms are small and dingy and the whole place is super creepy as well. Stay here if you want rude service by scary people. read more

The location of the place is tops, easy to walk everywhere ,clean cosy room with gorgeous old plaster ceiling and great bed , Great breakfast with friendly atmosphere , host was very helpful , great hospitality read more

This is a hotel full of character , a Victorian house sympathetically converted into an awesome Bed and Breakfast , retaining its' original Victorian decor' and awesome plaster ceilings My room was spotlessly clean and comfy , The service the host provided was courteous knowledgeable and most helpful, the free wifi and breakfast was an added bonus , Will definitely return read more

The Richmond Guest House is a lovely 19th century eleven room villa less than 1 km from Courtenay Place and Wellington City Business District (CBD). Recently restored to it's former grandeur, we have eleven freshly renovated rooms, single, double, twin and triple all of which have there own bathrooms plus hairdryers, radio alarms and newspapers delivered to rooms daily. Free, varied, continental breakfast is included with all rooms. Free Wi-Fi and on-street parking available.

The Richmond Guest House is a lovely 19th century eleven room villa less than 1 km from Courtenay Place and Wellington City Business District (CBD). Restored to it's former grandeur, we have eleven freshly renovated rooms, single, double, twin and triple all of which have there own bathrooms plus hairdryers, radio alarms and newspapers delivered to rooms daily. Free, varied, continental breakfast is included with all rooms. We have a computer set up in the dining room for free internet use and there is free WiFi as well. If you have a car, you can easily park for free in the street in front of the guest house (we will provide you a resident card). To quote your host John Cairns, "We don't claim to be the Hilton, but if you are traveling to Wellington for business or pleasure, for one night or ten, we offer clean, well located and comfortable accommodation at an affordable price." It's not nearly as nice as the places outside of big cities we stayed in, but this made sense for a…read morecity hotel/hostel. The outside is impressive, but the inside is pretty dingy and run-down. The room contained 2 bunked beds and a desk. There were 3 inner doors off a shared little atrium area with a door from the main hall. The doors went to 2 guest rooms and a shared bathroom with an impressive freestanding bathtub. You need a key to get into the building at night. It's nice there's security, although it didn't seem hard to tailgate in. The "free wifi" only means an hour, but it was per device, so it was sufficient. There's an elevator, although it's ancient. There are lockers for storing bags, and it was maybe $4-6 NZD to store bags for several hours. The place is completely unimpressive, but it gets 3 stars because of the location, which is very convenient: it's right across the street from the Bluebridge Ferry terminal, and right down the street from all of the government buildings. It's maybe a 20-30-minute walk to Te Papa. It's very walkable to places to eat. There was a decent amount of metered street parking around and available.
