The facilities are fantastic with two outdoor schools, one for dressage the other for jumping, a jumping paddock, a half mile gallop track and a horsewalker as well as fantastic hacking on the epsom downs. Horses get turned out in the fields 365 days a year. The yard just has a great atmosphere, everyone being really friendly and there's always lots going on with plenty of people around. The staff are all very helpful, always on hand if you have a problem, no matter how big or small it is. The yard is very professional and many of the liveries compete to a high level. I have really benefited from the great tuition available and am now also much more confident taking my horse to shows. There are also often clinics with professional riders at the yard. The location of the stables is ideal as there are many show centers nearby, as well as the clear round show jumping which takes place at the yard on a weekly basis in the summer months. You can choose between part or full livery and the prices are very reasonable. I went traveling for 2 months so left my horse completely to their care. I was a bit worried about this since I'm usually down there every day, but when I came back he looked better than ever before. If anything it was depressing that they got him going better than I could! I can't recommend this yard enough, both myself and my horse are very happy here!

I booked a private hack in hopes that I'd be able to canter through Hyde Park and, wow, I was not disappointed! The Stables cater to all levels. Never ridden a horse before? You can try it in Hyde Park. Your kid wants a pony ride? They do that too. Want to canter for miles and put a big grin on your face? That was me! I arrived a bit later than expected because the alleyway to the stables was hard to find. Ross Nye and Hyde Stables are next door to each other so be sure to check you're at the right place too. When I arrived, all the horses were tacked up and ready to go. And, for us travelers, they have plenty of helmets and boots (in fair shape) to borrow. No need to use up that precious luggage space. I hopped on and we were immediately off to the Park! I'm really glad I booked a private hack and would recommend you do too. While I have a few years experience riding, another rider had none at all. My "guide," Annie was lovely! She was very knowledgeable about the Park, pointing out sites and fountains and had tidbits of information about everything (even the French from which "Rotten Row" was translated). And, once she knew I could keep up, we cantered all over the Park! I was thrilled. She was also very conscientious of safety, flagging down traffic so we could cross busy London streets and to stopping our canter set when an oblivious little girl wandered across our path. My horse, Clifton, was fantastic! He had an unexpectedly lofty, bouncy gait and was unphased by anything around us. I wish I could have brought him home. Most importantly, the horses were well cared for. I was told they had 16 horses at the London stables. And, when the horses show signs of being overwhelmed with city life, they are given time off in pastures in Chilworth. In fact, the barn shuts down at certain times of the year to rest all of the horses so inquire about your travel dates when you book. I can't recommend this place enough! No matter your riding experience, you'll have a fantastic time.

We saw the Queen and the Royal Family arrive (the Royal Races last Tuesday), and from out grandstand area we could see all the crazy wealthy folks in their top hats and tails - and dresses with elaborate hats or fascinators - losing their money just as we were losing ours. It was a fun day, everything there ranges from expensive to ridiculous but memorable. Allow plenty of time to get there by car, and consider taking a picnic - but honestly sitting by my car in the huge parking area and drinking champagne, while being cost-effective, didn't seem to "fit" with the ambience there. Although some guys in top hats were doing so! I guess the nouveau riche :) For my American friends, remember that grandstand in Britain means just that - STAND. After decades of softening up in the US I was thinking we would get seats - but no!! Will I go again - quite possibly - it was fun I must say.....

Throughout the day I was betting on various horses and I only lost £2 after all, so got lucky there. Not sure how it compares to the food downstairs, but the food in the private box was quite good, and so was the service. I recommend going to Ascot to have a good time. I got here by taxi from my hotel, but from what I heard there is sufficient parking right across High Street in a large open parking lot. Also a good meeting point.

But on the other hand, I know these places need financial help and I always like to support arts facilities. But there ya go. Admission is free, but a donation is suggested, and I happily donated a few pounds. It's a small farm, with pigs, goats, chickens, alpacas, and more. There is also a cafe, although I didn't purchase anything, having just had a hearty breakfast. It's a great place for children, but as an adult, my visit was fairly short, about 30 minutes. Unless you have children, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit the farm, but if in the area and you have half an hour or so, check it out. It's a nice little farm, and affordable to visit. It was one of those days that I was just wandering through the streets of London exploring and came…read moreacross the noises of farm animals. I followed the sound curious as to why farm animals would be in the heart of the city and came upon Vauxhall. This historic city farm is in the heart of the city and is run as a charity focusing on education, youth work, and Riding for the Disabled. It is free to enter and check out all the barnyard creatures (they only ask for donations). The animals all seemed happy and well taken care of. There was also a cafe in the heart of the farm. I spoke with some of the youth volunteers and they were excited about the work they do at the farm to take care of the animals. While the farm is great to visit, the work they are doing to support the community and positively impact youth is even more important to support.

I love go karting…read more Daytona circuit is adjacent to Sandown Park race course. I've driven here as part of a large party from the hospital where I work. I think go karting events probably work best if you can get a group together and get some exclusive race time. Firstly, the worst part - finding a pair of race overalls which aren't too dirty/smelly/sweaty followed by an appropriately sized helmet. Once you put the snug racing helmet on, you can feel those competitive driving juices start to rise! The circuit marshals are very strict on safely and there's an important safety briefing beforehand to go over the kart controls and flags used on the circuit. We raced on the shorter 475m Indy circuit, which still featured 5 tight turns and several short straights, allowing quite a few overtaking opportunities. We were on 2 stroke karts, which could still work up quite a speed and being close to the ground in karting, you get a real sensation of speed. The steering was finely tuned, allowing a surprising amount of control on precise placement of your kart for those crucial overtaking manoeuvres. Another great sensation was the ability to powerslide round corners We each had 5 preliminary races with different starting positions on the grids, earning points towards the grand final. It was fantastic fun with some amazing overtaking, defending positions and some spins but most importantly having fun safely. Timing was done automatically and you could go and collect the telemetry on your driving efforts and some advice from the course marshals on how to better your time. All in all, a great evening's entertainment. Hmm... perfect for a Yelp event? However, the most important bit of advice was right at the end of the session when the marshals advised us to sit in our cars for a few minutes before driving off so that we could get our civilian driving brains back into gear before leaving

I used to go karting as a child so when my friend suggested going I jumped at the chance. However,…read moreas with many things, I don't appear to be quite so fearless as I was when I was a kid! We arrived early with an hour to spare, registered on the computer (did I want my results posted on facebook? - no thanks!), and signed in with the reception staff. With time to kill, my friend and I shared a surprisingly good pepperoni pizza and sized up the competition...uuummm, there seems to be a lots of guys here! We were planning to watch the other racers but just as we got there the heavens opened, the nerves increased as we watched the karts sliding around on the track, the drivers struggling to control them. When our allocated time slot arrived we got kitted up in our racing gear and went for our DVD briefing, presented by ex-racing driver Martin Brundel. It was time to race and luckily the rain had eased and the sun had come out to dry up the track. There were 12 of us in our group, the majority of which were young competitive lads, this could be very interesting! My friend had decided to book us DMAX karts, the most expensive and quickest karts available. In hindsight, probably not worth it for someone like me as I never actually got my foot to the floor. We had half an hour out on the track and as expected I came 12th (sounds better than last!) and was lapped by everyone including my friend. But none the less I did have a great time. It was a little scary at times when the boys shot past me and it didn't turn out to be the non-contact sport that was described in the brief!! My arms very so painful by the end of the race (no power steering on those carts) and are still stiff two days later. I would definitely go again but would maybe try and get a big group of friends together and perhaps stick with the slightly less powerful karts!
