I thought Id try this vet out due to all the good reviews, and I will never be going back. This vet…read morewas inept, uncaring, and way overpriced. I honestly don't know how there are so many good reviews, or who can even afford to go here, but I was not impressed. First of all, my appointment was at 3 and I waited nearly 20 mins. My cat was on a medication that made him extremely fatigued to the point he was very weak and not eating or drinking, and all she cared about doing, was running a test for FeLV. When I wanted her to run the bloodwork to make sure his liver and kidneys hadnt shutdown and that he was saveable--ya know, the obvious. But there was a miscommunication and when I left him there to get the bloodwork done, all she did was run the test for FeLV. That's it. She ran that and then they just left him sitting there and did nothing. Didn't put him on an IV which he obviously needed, even though she even said he was dehydrated. Nope. Just left him sitting there the whole time I was gone. Here I thought they would be making him feel better and taking care of him--the things vets are supposed to do. But nope.
So I get back and she says he has FeLV and is hinting that he should just be put down because that's it. And I asked about the other bloodwork and all that, and she just said, oh well I tested for FeLV and now I know whats wrong with him and we didn't want to do anything else without asking you. And she went on about blood transfusion and just all about the FeLV, ignoring the fact that he was perfectly fine before his new medication. But it didn't matter what else was going on with him. He just had FeLV and that was it.
So I was pretty pissed at this point and just wanted to grab my cat and run, but I told her to run the other bloodwork since I was there. And it was pretty clear that it was an overnight situation at the least, that he needed the care only a vet could provide, but she didn't even suggest that, just went on about how I would need to keep him on a heating pad and force feed him at least three times a day and all this stuff.
But I finally get my cat and Im just gritting my teeth on losing it at her...and then I get the bill. 326 dollars. 326 dollars for a FeLV test, bloodwork, some injected liquids, and liquid food. I really shouldn't have even paid it, should have looked over the bill, but I was just looking at the clock and hurrying out the door so I could call my actual vet who is not overpriced, nor a FeLV fanatic, and would actually take care of my poor sick cat.
I called within ten minutes to closing and my actual vet saw me immediately. And said, as common sense dictated, that he should be on and IV and stay overnight for round the clock treatment.
Oh and I almost forgot, she said they would call me with the results of his bloodwork when it was finished. I waited at my vet for 15 mins in addition to the 10 min drive time, and the 10 mins at Westside. No call. I had to call them and ask for it. Great service there. Not 326 dollar service for sure.
So I guess its on me for trying this new vet, but I still cant believe the abysmal care he received and the cost. My vet said she would run the same bloodwork for 60 dollars. The other vet said it would be 125. Unless she meant included with the FeLV test, but again I cant even imagine where the other 200 dollars comes in then.
Ive had a cat get surgery on his ear and stay at the vet for a weak because I was out of town and it needed to be cleaned everyday, and that was in the 300 dollar range. And I paid this lady 326 for doing next to nothing. Again, who goes here? She also said the FeLV test was 55. My vet says 40. What a ripoff.
