She's also really fun to chat with. Jenn has a clear passion for the body and you will definitely feel it in her work on yours. I particularly enjoy her use of heat therapy on me: to release tension in my shoulders and upper back she uses steaming hot towels that seem to make my muscles melt. It's such a relaxing and wonderful experience. Jenn's been performing massage at Moonshadow for 13 years, and I can see why - the little studio in the back of the salon is such a sweet space. It seems perfectly suited to her and is a great place for a getaway (if only a 60 minute one). If you're looking for a spot of self care, book an hour with Jennifer Michels.

Why choose Rachel?…read more Massage therapy should be a holistic experience that benefits both the mind and body. While massage helps promote relaxation and the release of endorphins, that experience can be diminished if the therapist appears disengaged or unhappy in their work. Whether you prefer conversation or silence, feeling comfortable and cared for is essential. Rachel consistently provides that experience through her warm personality, professionalism, intelligence, and genuine care for her clients. I specifically asked her to address my chronic shoulder pain, and she was able to identify and work on the muscles that were triggering my symptoms. The treatment was targeted, effective, and left me feeling significantly better. As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I understand the importance of patient experience and quality care. It's easy to see why people appreciate Rachel's work ethic and the positive environment she creates. Good vibes overall. Thank you, Rachel!

After a single visit, on coming back a month later, she somehow remembered a lot about me - that I practice brazilian jiujitsu, do regular soft tissue work at home, that I have family and business in Orange County. We chatted for at most 10 total minutes during my first visit. It's exactly this type of continuity that I was looking for in finding a massage therapist to go to more regularly. Berkeley has a few great Thai massage places but therapists rarely speak English and they never seem to honor the specific therapist you book. I was looking for someone who will retain information on what I like and what my muscles need, and Rachel is exactly that kind of massage therapist.

My friend who gifted me the massage told me that she was sure Maria could help and she was so right! Booking my appointment was easy. I visited Maria at her Solano Ave location which was lovely, with ample street parking available. She started with a thorough chat about what I was looking for from the massage, what I wanted worked on and if there was anywhere I didn't want to be touched which I really appreciated. It was honestly some of the best bodywork I've ever had. Maria has an absolutely wonderful touch and energy. Her massage work has a beautiful flowing quality that I found quite wonderfully hypnotic. By the end of the 90 minutes I was pretty much putty. I haven't been that relaxed in years, maybe ever. It quite literally felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders! I highly recommend going to Maria if you are in need of some very therapeutic bodywork! I'll definitely be back!

It was exactly what I needed to get out of my head after a super busy work day and immediately drop into my body. I had asked for Reiki to help soothe my nervous system. She blended energywork and bodywork seamlessly throughout my session. I had a truly restorative night rest after the massage, and I am still feeling bright and shiny days later. I highly recommend Maria!

I've lived with chronic pain for most of my life, and after years of trying just about every…read moretreatment imaginable, I can honestly say that no one has helped me more than Tim. For years, I experienced constant pain in my neck, back, and shoulders, along with pain radiating up my neck and a nervous system that always seemed to be on high alert. One of the hardest parts was simply going to bed--I would lay my head down on my pillow every night already hurting, expecting another night of discomfort. Since beginning myofascial release sessions with Tim, that has changed dramatically. My neck, back, and shoulder pain have been greatly reduced, the nerve irritation has calmed down, and I no longer dread putting my head on the pillow at night. For the first time in a very long time, I feel like my body is finally moving in the right direction. I'm still in the middle of my treatment, but the difference has already been life-changing. One thing I didn't expect was how much this would help me emotionally. When you've lived with chronic pain for years, it quietly affects every part of your life. You wake up wondering how much you're going to hurt that day. You become anxious about simple activities, and over time you almost begin to expect pain as your normal. As my pain has eased, I've felt an incredible sense of relief--not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. I don't carry the same weight every day, and I don't constantly worry about how bad I'm going to feel. That freedom has been just as meaningful as the physical improvement. What has fascinated me most is learning about fascia and the critical role it plays throughout the body. I now understand why so many of the treatments I tried in the past only provided temporary relief--they addressed the symptoms but not the underlying restrictions within the fascial system. Myofascial release works by gently releasing these restrictions, allowing the body's connective tissue network to regain normal mobility, reduce mechanical tension on muscles and nerves, and restore healthier movement patterns. Once I experienced it myself, so many pieces finally made sense. Tim's knowledge of the body is extraordinary. He has an incredible ability to listen, assess what's happening, and intuitively understand how everything is connected. Beyond his expertise, he is one of the kindest, most compassionate people I've met. He never rushes, truly listens, and makes you feel understood throughout the entire process. His intelligence, skill, and genuine care for his clients are evident in every session. The improvement in my quality of life has been remarkable. I honestly didn't think I would experience this level of relief, and I'm incredibly grateful to have found him. I've now referred several friends to Tim, and it's been amazing to watch them experience meaningful improvements as well. Seeing their results has only reinforced my confidence in his work and in the power of myofascial release. If you've been living with chronic pain, feeling like you've tried everything, or only finding temporary relief, do yourself a favor and schedule an appointment with Tim. Give the process a chance--you may discover, as I did, that the missing piece has been your fascia all along. I recommend Tim wholeheartedly and without hesitation. He's truly changed my life, and I believe he has the ability to help many others do the same.

It was getting worse every year. I had limited mobility in my neck, pain when waiting up in the morning, and pain doing simple tasks like cleaning the house and tying my shoes. After the first session I already felt so much better. I've done 7 sessions and I feel 20 years younger. I cleaned the house this morning and didn't get the usual back pain. I can move without constant creaks and cracks, and just feel more aligned in general with my body. I highly recommend working with Tim. He really loves what he does. He's intent on finding the source of the pain and releasing and is extremely knowledgable and practiced in his art. It was game changing for me.

I have a slim frame and often masseuses don't tend to the muscle tension and it becomes an expensive moisturizing session. Gracie is exceptional; finding the balance of what your muscles need and your comfort level. COVID precautions followed or performed at the door, she is masked, provides a full explanation, and demonstration prior to you stripping, she is quite knowledgeable of the anatomy, as a nurse I was very impressed and my body is committed to returning monthly. The room was the perfect temperature-- warm, humidified, with a subtle breeze. Soft natural light but provides eye covering if needed. The bed was heated to my liking so not only did I remain warm when exposed, my muscles continued to loosen, there was the perfect amount of linen--not too heavy, heavy enough like a calm sensation , allowed to retain warmth and feel the breeze, the correct size of linen so every part of me was covered with some wiggle room. IDK if it was just my room, but the headrest was SO uncomfortable LOL. Imagine pressing your face…read moreinto a thin pillow on a hard U-shaped metal bar. It was near impossible to enjoy the massage when the metal was digging into my cheeks and chin the whole time. By the end of it, my face was red and had the U-shape imprint on my cheeks :-( Ouchy I checked in for a 90 minute traditional Thai massage. They had me circle my areas of focus (shoulders, head, and lower back) and preferred pressure level, then walked me to the room. Each room is separated by drapes, and are equipped with a floor mat, pillows, small basket for personal items, and a shirt/pants to change into. My massage therapist was Rayna. I didn't realize that she would ONLY massage my focus areas for 99% of the entire 90 minutes LOL. Most places I've been to usually dedicate 20-30 minutes to focus areas and then continue with a full body massage, but my front side, arms, and legs were barely touched. A little disappointed... But maybe if you REALLY want a targeted massage this is better for you. The massage was mostly with her hands, and very little back-walking, which I prefer. But still very hard to enjoy bc of the face/headrest situation :-( Sometime during the massage, I think a rough callus ripped on her hand and started dragging a sharp piece of skin against my back every time she used her palm on me. It was hella itchy at best, and a sharp pain at its worst. I didn't say anything because we already had a slight language barrier so I wasn't sure if she'd understand... By the end of it, I was totally slathered in tiger balm. Granted, she did wipe most residue off with a hot towel, but the smell lingered. It stuck to my clothes, car, and hair. ALSO, the bathroom is shoes-off... People leave their shoes at the entryway cabinets before entering the hallway, so it's not THAT gross, but I still prefer not to go shoeless into a public restroom...
