I ordered catering for a holiday family reunion of 26. I was appreciative of Prudencio who was helpful and made the ordering process easy. I ordered a tray of cheese enchiladas and the three combination dinner; chicken and beef tacos, chicken and beef burritos and chili rellenos which came with beans and rice and a green salad... it also came with chips and salsa and guacamole. We had to pick it up because delivery couldn't happen during their 'dinner rush'. But I don't get why anyone would rush Rincon Norteno. My family tried to eat the food because we were all hungry but the food was not good. Sloppy, thoughtless, and poorly seasoned and executed. Salsa was bizarre and very, very hot and spicy! Runny, tasteless guacamole that had more tomatoes in it than avocado. Salad that was swimming in water. The beans were so runny they ran into all the other foods on a plate and tasted like nothing. Overcooked, mushy rice. Too spicy chicken burritos and soggy, inedible beef burritos. And the chili rellenos, a dish that everyone was so looking forward to, they were inedible too. Wet, limp, flavorless. From what I was told, the enchiladas were good if a little too spicy and the tacos were dry and very dry. I was so disappointed. This was a special celebration. The only time during the year when we are all together in one place and our big dinner was a bust. Just really uncool and a waste of money. I went hungry, a recommendation from someone local as we were passing through. Our meal began with the complementary chips and salsa. Fresh chips, salsa served warm that had a delayed bite bringing a familiar bit of sweat to my upper lip. Hmmmm. I had the Chile Relleno combination, tasty beans, great rice and potato soup was amazing. A side of chunky guacamole with cheese smothered baked chips were delicious. We visited on Friday after staying away for a few months. Food is good for the most part. The main issue here is the method of payment and lack of service. 1. They still don't bring you a breakdown of your bill. You have to watch closely as they charge and frequently they over charge. 2. Some waitresses are excellent while others are the opposite. We got a great one Friday but she got chewed out by the cook and you could tell she was upset, which upset me. Our food took forever too. This is my update from over ten years ago. This establishment is still the best! The remodel has modernized and made it beautiful without losing the charm from years past. Although the building looked a little run down, the interior had been modernized and pretty spacious. We sat down and we're immediately served water, chips and a dip (spicy!!) along with menus. A moment later our server took our order, all done politely and efficiently. I mention all of this because some reviews have questioned their customer service...we did not find them lacking here. The food was super fresh and tasted home made. The ingredients carried the flavor as opposed to being over-seasoned. What I mean is that you actually taste the chilies, the beef, etc, instead of seasoning powder. So, if you prefer overly seasoned food you may find te flavor lacking. The warm salsa with chips is pretty good, and the staff is friendly enough. Looks much better after the remodel. This would have been a 4 star review, but it wasn't until we got home that we realized we were overcharged. They never brought us a bill while we waited to leave. We eventually got tired of waiting so we stood by the stand at the door while a woman typed our orders directly into the register. The bill seemed really high but without an itemized receipt we trusted the woman and paid. It wasn't until we got home and added it up that we realized she overcharged us by exactly $25. There was nothing we ordered, or on the menu that costs $25. That is admittedly our fault for not figuring it out before we left. After looking at the reviews others have left for Rincon Norteno, it appears that it is a common for this restaurant to overcharge its guests. The most recent complaint is a month ago. Our food came but our corn tortillas were delayed about two minutes. Our waitress came by and apologized. We weren't upset. When she delivered them, they were freshly made, pillowy soft, and steaming hot! LET'S GO! Our meals came with soup and it was yum o riffic! It was a beef soup with vegetables. The food was so good, we planned to go back the next day for dinner but couldn't because of time constraints. The portion sizes are generous! We each had two full meals out of one lunch. Our top pick based on Yelp reviews had some sketchy characters at the door so we found Rincon, which offered everything you could want in an indoor/outdoor social Mexican restaurant. as much outside shaded seating as seats within, the tamales were delicious.
