They have $2 tacos (for the most) and $3 tacos (steak or shrimp) on Tuesdays. I was curious what the smoked brisket was on the menu. It's a smoked brisket taco. It was mouthwatering good. I also ordered the steak taco, but after having the brisket, I wanted more brisket. It was a bit expensive for a taco, but it was really good. The habanero salsa was no joke. When the food started coming out... Oy vey! They delivered food from another table to us. They just left it on our table. As a matter of fact, anything coming out of the restaurant went on our table. One person at our table did not get their food at all. It was forgotten. Forks only on tables, no knives. Small styrofoam cups for water/soda. It was just too annoying for me to overcome the food. Good restaurant. It was clean with plenty of seating. Food came out fast. They have two different taco sizes. The street tacos are smaller so I opted to go with that. The al pastor taco was good, the pineapple was mixed in with the meat and it had some spice to it. The chicken taco was good as well but less flavorful. The rice and beans were ok, not amazing but not bad. They have Jones soda for their fountain drinks, I really liked the diet soda. They also have a freezer of popsicles. read more

Riobamba is a Yelp gem and I discovered it when I needed great place in Glenview to meet out of town guests for an impromptu lunch. Located off the beaten path that is Waukegan Road, you'll find a clean and cozy store front with time and talent spent where it matters: Flavor and a not overdone zippy decor. The space was clean and fresh with attention given to the details. The owner was on point and answered some questions I had about which tacos he'd recommend based on customer traffic. Originally, I was going to go chicken and steak, but then he suggested the lunch taco special: Brisket...sold! Steak and brisket for the win and my group's order was place. Service for six was handled by a friendly staff....chips and guac arrived and was a great start to our meal and catching-up conversation. Out next, our lunch entrees...all correct and all looking good! Our party had salad, tacos, and tamale...several came with rice and beans. My tacos were exceptional. The 15 hour owner-smoked brisket was a winner while the steak was a worthy contender bite for bite. Great flavor, great service, and smiles all around from staff make Riobamba a stop I will visit once again even though I'd come from Arlington Heights to do so. Ordered delivery to check this place out and the only good thing I have to say is the steak tacos kinda reminded me of La Pasadita in the city on Ashland. Kind of a garlic roasted taste. Not bad. Lots of meat. The tamale was probably one of the worst I've ever had, it tasted like mashed potatoes instead of corn/masa. Very bland throughout. I couldn't differentiate between the meat and veggies. Everything was so mushy. I tossed it out. The rice and beans were also extremely bland and just BLAH. The salsa verde was good, average. The "roja" salsa tasted like bbq sauce, no hint of spice, or even cilantro. Just sweet and gooey. Riobamba has been on my bookmarked list since it opened in Glenview. I have read the reviews and seen photos on yelp. On a Tuesday night, my daughter and I finally came here to try it out. There is ample parking in the small commercial strip where Riobamba is all the way behind the other small establishments. Once we went inside, the person at the counter greeted us, as my daughter and I looked at the menu. Here are the things that I have tried: TOSTONES- I wanted the Maduros but my daughter mistakenly ordered this. It basically tasted like deep fried batter and no taste of the plantain at all. LAMB TACO- This was a featured taco for the day. The lamb was very tender, flavorful and delicious. I liked that the taco did not have too much garnishing on top of the meat. STEAK TACO- The steak was tender but there was not much flavor. SHRIMP TACO- The 3 pieces of shrimp were seasoned well but they were covered with too much cabbage plus the onions and cilantro. HORNADO- The pork was very tender but I found this dish flat. The hominy, pico and cabbage slaw didn't add much flavor as well. RICE & BEANS- they were both dry. Overall, the prices are reasonable and they put a good amount of protein in the dishes. The service was efficient and pleasantly quiet. The place is clean and it is also BYOB. Maybe I will try their other dishes next time because on this first visit, my daughter and I agreed that this is not on our list of our favorite places. read more

We came by and picked up a few tacos for a light dinner on their $2 Taco Tuesday. They were in ok range I would say and you pretty much get what you pay for. These were pretty skimpy on the protein and the chirozo tasted just like the Al Pastor taco if they were in fact different. We tried their $2 offerings and they were stated by the owner (to another customer) to be smaller than their regular priced tacos. We had two Al Pastor, a chorizo, a ground beef, and a chicken taco. Despite being in a tucked away corner, this place was quite popular! I got a shrimp and fish taco along with a side of yucca fries. The tacos were loaded with goodness and honestly you'd just have to try it for yourself! There were a few sauces to go along with the food. If I recall correctly, there was fire roasted (mild), avocado jalapeno (med), and cirtrus habanero (hot). I liked a combo of the mild and hot. So what is yucca? I did some research. It's also known as cassava which is a root vegetable that resembles sweet potato. I felt that the fries were more dense than regular potatoes, which allowed the outside to be more crispy and firm. I loved the chimichurri aioli, which is typically made using parseley, garlic, olive oil and vinegar. read more

Portion sizes are good with a reasonable amount of seasoning. Sides such as the refried beans, slaw, and rice do not stand out much but it also doesn't distract from the main entrees. I'm still thinking about the tacos I ate at the Old Orchard car show from the Riobamba mobile food truck. My pork tacos were loaded with pork--absolutely no skimping and completely reasonably priced. The pork wasn't too rich or greasy, and at the end of my taco experience I didn't feel regret like I do at other places for eating a rich grease bomb. Everything was so fresh, and the tacos did not fall apart whatsoever! I also tried my hubby's chicken taco, and it was packed with flavorful tender grilled chicken that left me wanting to go back and get one for myself (but I already had two tacos). We also ordered up a batch of their homemade tortilla chips, and guacamole, and the chips were served hot, and the guacamole was perfect and memorable. Again, so fresh! Wow! I stumbled upon this gem while in the area shopping and running errands. I didn't even look at reviews, I was just looking for some place close by to grab a quick bite. It was a bit confusing since it's tucked in the back of the strip mall but your extra detour is well worth it! I had no idea what to order so I just ended up doing my usual go to of Al Pastor taco and decided to try the pork taco. I LOVED their Al pastor taco here! It was so flavorful and it was a party in my mouth! That will for sure be my go to whenever I order from here. The pork taco was shredded pork and it reminded me of lechon meat. I liked it but the Al pastor was better. I also got the pork tamale which was the similar shredded pork meat but they use white corn flour so the tamales were so soft and fluffy. I was on lunch break and wanted to eat something near my job. I saw that Riobama had vegetarian options so I went. The place is small and has counter service where you order your good as soon as you walk in then sit down. They had a lot of options in the menu and even though I came for the vegetarian options I ended up ordering the fish and shrimp tacos. These taco were so good and hearty! I can't even decide which one I like best because they were both THAT good. It comes with cilantro, and lime, and I believe onion. All those toppings are optional. I ended up getting a mild green sauce on the side but it didn't even need it. The tacos were good on their own. I would definitely recommend coming here to try their tacos and next time I'll try the veggie taco because I see this place doing no wrong when it comes to the tacos. First day of summer June 21, 2017. Riobamba is located on the east side of Waukegan just north of Chestnut in the back of a strip mall that also has Mara Sushi. The only reason I mention this is because it's hidden off the street all the way at the back and can't be seen from Waukegan. I literally drove right past it even though I was forewarned by my sisters Yelp review that it was hidden. I ordered 2 tacos. One was an Ancho Chili Marinated Cod Taco that had a nice infusion of the ancho chili peppers in the cod. The other was a Cumin Roasted Pork taco with the pork cooked w/a nice crispy crunch that added flavor and texture. This taco came with a large portion of pork which allowed me to sample the sauces and figure out which one I liked. Citrus Habanero Hot Sauce was excellent (if you like heat). It had a nice spiciness with a good blend of citrus. Fire Roasted Mild Sauce Roasted red peppers also had an excellent flavor, but was mild and I prefer HOT Nice restaurant, nice decor and music with good food Check it out. Stopped here a few weeks ago for dinner. We got it to go and went to a nearby park to enjoy. Unfortunately it was really lacking. Tacos were bland. Something weird was in my Al pastor. Tamales were so flavorless. Loaded tamale also so flavorless. Salsas were good. Not sure if it was an off day or if other reviews aren't accurate? We were bummed and had higher hopes since reviews are so good. Definitely a waste of money. We got an array of food and nothing was really great (or good). Two stars because the staff was kind and food was packaged well. Nothing special about ambiance/ inside but it was clean.
