Recently had THE BEST customer service experience! One of the sales associates named Eden was the most outstanding help, two visits in a row! The first time coming in, I bought some things for my husband and son. A few things didn't fit, when I came back Eden helped me with an easy exchange with the most patience and help to get what we needed! I ended up picking up a wetsuit and a tide watch that second visit for a heck of a deal! But then, I had to come back to the store because I was struggling to get my watch to work and honestly thought it was broken... Eden was amazing! She helped me learn how to operate it all the way through! She made sure the time and date were set properly as well as the tide location I wanted. She made sure I knew how to operate it before I left! Not everyone gives the effort...but she did! This is why I'll always come here for anything I need before anywhere else. Definitely one of my favourite places to come check out whenever I come to Santa Cruz, which is often, so I find myself often in this building, buying things that I ultimately don't need, but sure do love having them. So I guess it turns out that I DO need them! Food for the soul, amirite?! Anyway, this place has some super sweet deals, as one might expect from an outlet store, but it's not like everything in here is super cheap. Or even that cheap if you're super budgeting. But if you're budgeting, then you probably shouldn't be buying anything at all. So I guess this one's on YOU! Anyway, they have really nice clothes, nice and fitted to show off all that amazing progress you've been making during the pandemic, right? Right?! I love this place. It's the outlet store. They always have great clearance deals. I bought an old school Rip Curl print t-shirt for less than $15! They have XXL sizes. Evidently they have good deals on wetsuits too. I quit surfing a few years ago after a serious wipe-out that fractured my ankle in 3 different places and completely dislocated my ankle complex. I have chronic pain but I remember Rip Curl since I surfed back in the 80s in San Diego. This place is an institution in Santa Cruz. A must shop experience! Quality and good prices. read more

Started feeling way cooler after entering this shop. Ate a burger across the street and HAD to come back in here. Jr, surfs and this shop has some cool gear. I needed a backpack for a trip we are taking. I want to look cool so I bought a backpack from here. Rip Curl has their name on a lot of gear sold here. Got the backpack I needed for 19 although they has others that look the same for 10 more. I like 19. Jr picked up a couple of tees and we were all set. Rip Curl has nice clothes, good prices and nice specials. I'm very disappointed with the staff. I drove across town at 4pm only to find them closed. Today I called to be sure I knew the closing time. The person on the phone said 6. I walked in at 5:15 and was immediately told that they were closing at 5:30. They were unapologetic. I find this disrespectful to the customers. If you are a more wide hipped individual like myself who needs somewhere between a 9, 10 and 11 depending on the style... there are limits. Less than a week ago, I finally step foot into this place on the corner of Bay and Mission street in Santa Cruz. I don't know why I never considered checking out this place for fun, but my roommate and I felt the need for something new to show off over winter break. As of now, they have a good BOGO free sale on lots of women and mens apparel, along with some cute two piece bikinis that range from 19.99-24.99! My roommate and I bought matching tops, but my piece was missing the removable bikini strings. The woman at the counter was nice enough to go to the back and gave me another set. Everything is discounted already from the regular price, but it's still a little expensive unless there's a promotion going on. I pass by this place everyday when I go to school, and it's never really crowded. The woman at the counter told me it usually gets busier around spring time/summer (makes sense, of course) and it's a common tourist spot for people to buy surf souvenirs since it really is off highway 1. I probably don't have the need to come here everyday, but I was definitely attracted to the variety of styles of bikini tops they had for the price. 3.5 stars, but I'll round up to 4 for friendly service. read more

Is there even an adult that works here? One of the kids that was working that we couldn't try anything on but had 60 days to return or exchange the items. The girl ringing up the items made 2 mistakes, almost cost me an extra $50 for stuff I didn't buy if hadnt seen the errors. I bought a bunch of stuff and tried it on at home. Decided to return some of the items that didn't fit and they said they only do exchange for store credit. So now I'm out $100 bucks. The zippers on Rip Curl wetsuits are absolute garbage. They corrode within the first season, rendering the entire wetsuit useless and often failing at inopportune times. They provide no support for having them repaired cost effectively and tell you to just buy another suit. Though initially slightly cheaper than other brands, this likely planned obsolescence makes them a waste of money and an unsustainable product. FU Rip Curl. Buy an O'Neill or Patagonia. This has no bearing on the staff at this store, but both suits I've bought from them through this store have failed the same way. Garbage. read more

This place is awesome. The have a huge selection of wet suits and rash guards at reasonable prices. I did not know that this location was an outlet until I went to pay for some Items I picked up. I scored two sets of sandles for 20 bucks and a skim board for 50 dollars. They're was so much more crap in there that I wanted to pick up and sift through but I didn't have much time and had to make a madd dash outta there. I was trying to find a wetsuit for rent around the bay area, but the only options was go to Pacifica or Santa Cruz. I came here at 9 AM to get a wetsuit and told the saleswoman that I needed one. They didn't have one in my size, so she took a brand new wetsuit off the rack and made it into a rental for only $10. I was expecting to spend at least $20. The wetsuit was perfect and snug, which is what you want and I wasn't cold at all in the ocean. I definitely plan to buy a wetsuit here. They seem to have great deals all the time. read more

All I can say is, scored some cute clothes! Got a bikini for $10. Yes, $10 and quality! Cute sun hat for $15, black linen pant for $12. Great selection for women and men. Got hubs pants for $20. Would have liked to purchase stuff for my boys but they are lacking in the kids department (good for boys over 9 years old). Will definitely return when I'm back in town. Can't speak of the wetsuits stuff, I'm more of a beach wanderer. Seemed like they had a large selection. Also, the staff was welcoming, kind and attentive, didn't feel like they were hovering like other retails spots. read more

I walked in the door today and have never experienced a more rude employee in my life, I wanted to beat this kid and teach him a lesson because obviously no one else has reprimanded him before. Backstory.... my girlfriend and I walked in at 4:45, to get a pair of shorts and before I could walk 2 feet, the kid at the front desk said "sorry we are closed". I showed him the time and he said " naw bro, I want to be able to leave at 5 exactly, so I need you to leave the store now." HE embarrassed the shit out of us in front of everyone and had an attitude that has no place in a customer service setting! Needs no more explanation, this kid is a kook and should not represent the name of this brand. Ripcurl... you are better than that ( I hope). fire this kid... he needs to be taught a lesson. I'm just gonna say this shop rocks! There's some seriously serious deals to be had in this place. Great deals on rash guards, board shorts, wet suits and other surf gear. The quality of the apparel/gear is very good, I wouldn't say up to par with O'Neill but not up there with the exuberant prices either. I bought two rash guards and two board shorts, one was under $10, and the rash guards having a buy one get one at 50% off! I thought this was a good deal but the staff even gave me a better price with their buy two shorts and two shirts. Dude, kudos to the friendly and helpful staff. This is probably my favorite surf shop ever, and I've been to a lot of them, from California to Hawaii and Tahiti. Their selection isn't huge but they make up for it with great prices and a good atmosphere. I try to stop there every time I'm in Santa Cruz because they always have great deals. I've bought tons of shirts, sweatshirts, accessories and even 2 wetsuits from them over the years. The staff is always super friendly and helpful, unlike many other surf shops that foster a "too cool for school" attitude. read more

If you are gay do not come here. I have a surf lesson on this coming up Sunday. My instructor told me that I could wear a speedo. I went to go purchase a red speedo at this shop. There was two minutes till they closed but I knew what I wanted. As soon as I came to the door he had an attitude and I asked him If he had any speedo's at the store location. He said I don't need them and did not even give me a referral to find my speedo. He completely disregarded the need I had, and I felt very discriminated against in front of other customers. read more
