Nice interior quite large. We sat at the bar. Bartender and server Tally G. greeted us with a warm welcome and smile. Cocktails made perfectly. Aware that we were sharing our entree Tally had the order split and served on two plates. Observing her it's obvious she takes pride in her job, serves promptly, makes certain the entree is enjoyable. Five stars for Tally - 5 stars for the beef dip. read more

Attended around 1130am October 5th. The food was Good but the two serving staff must have bathed in perfume. The smell they left lingering on the rare occasion the server attended our table gave my wife a headache. In a service type business, one needs to understand staff need to be fragrance free. Their food sent me to the hospital and not one staff member was concerned... I visited the Riptide Marine Pub in Campbell River on May 13, 2024 for lunch with a coworker. I have an anaphylactic peanut and tree nut allergy so I had called the week prior to going and the restaurant had confirmed that their menu was safe and that they had no peanuts or tree nuts in the building because a staff member also had an allergy. When I arrived at the restaurant I explained the severity of my allergy again and asked the server to confirm with the kitchen, she came back and said she spoke with the chef who confirmed there were no nuts or peanuts in the kitchen whatsoever. I ordered the fish and chips and after 2 bites I had an anaphylactic allergic reaction and needed to administer my epipen and be rushed to the hospital emergency room. When leaving to go to the hospital, we were stopped on the way out the door by the server and were required to pay for our food before going. We both paid almost $25.00 each for our lunches that neither of us ate. The next day I followed up with a staff member who said it was not possible that I had a reaction from their food and was very dismissive. Later on I spoke with a manager who proceeded to say it was impossible for the restaurant to have any involvement in the allergic reaction. He then went on asking me whether I was drinking or had I eaten beforehand, and after he put me on hold and had a discussion with the chef he determined it wasn't them that had any part in causing my anaphylaxis but said the main manager would call me later that evening. Never once did he apologize to me for this happening nor did he bother to show any concern whatsoever for my well being. Neither person I spoke with cared about the fact that I had to administer my epipen because of their food, go to the hospital, or that I was stopped from going to the hospital immediately because I had to pay. The female manager called me later that night to discuss the event. She was the only person who apologized and asked about my health after the event. Throughout our conversation, she explained she didn't know how it could've happened but would be willing to pay for my next meal if I ever returned to the restaurant. I had brought up the fact that we were stopped from leaving the restaurant when we were on our way to the hospital and that we had to pay for 2 meals that we didnt even get to eat about 3 times during the call and didnt get an answer about that. After approximately 15 minutes of discussing the situation she admitted that there was chicken with hazelnut sauce that went into the same deep fryer oil as my fish that was "guaranteed to be nut/peanut free" so there was a "slight chance of cross-contamination". After confirming with her that was what nearly killed me, she said that the server should've explained there was a chance of cross contamination and blamed her for the incident. Overall, I am very disappointed with the restaurant. Their main concern was me paying for the food rather than me getting to the hospital. Both the kitchen and one of the two managers refused to accept any accountability for the reaction and proceeded to doubt me when I said that I had an allergic reaction that hospitalized me. It seems their kitchen staff do not understand cross-contamination whatsoever and I would recommend avoiding this restaurant if you have any allergies or food restrictions period. read more

I wasn't sure about this restaurant, given some of the horrible reviews but a family member assured us that they'd always had positive experiences there, and that they were exceptional at Covid-19 protocols. I had low expectations but it turned out that wasn't necessary at all. The tables were well spaced out, staff was constantly cleaning and social distancing was maintained. Food tasted great (this is pub food, not high end dining, btw) and I wasn't disappointed. I had the crab cakes to start, and the sirloin as my main. It's been forever since I'd been to a restaurant (I'm far more wary about eating out at home in Vancouver after a negative experience). The crab cakes were crispy and had a pleasant chipotle sauce. The sirloin was good--I had it cooked medium--and I was satisfied. It was great pub food. The vegetables were nicely cooked, not overdone, and buttery tasting. I skipped the potatoes so they gave me lots of extra vegetables which made me happy Anyway, I'm glad to have visited. The staff were efficient and I didn't have any complaints. I hope they're treated well (and fairly compensated) because they did a great job. read more

Kristina was our bar tender and I cannot recommend enough. We have been on a boat for 4 days and these the most friendly face we've seen. Kristina helped us with drinks, apps, food, and desert. The Caesar was the best drink I've had in the past 5 years. The apps she recommended were amazing and her service was on point. Possibly the best restaurant in Campbell River. I just sat down to the best meal I've had in 2022. First off a plate of delicious nachos enough for two people and delicious to the very end. After I had a set of fall off the bone bbq wings. See I came here drunk already so I can eat two appetizers, entree and a dessert no problem. Also several delicious glasses of white wine. The entree stole the show with a Crab Penne with a beautiful presentation and even better flavour profile! For desert a Green Mocha Creme brûlée! Very well done through and through! I'm feel very full and satisfied after everything. This is undoubtedly one of the best! If not the best restaurant in Campbell River. It's been here since 1997 so seriously?! enjoyed our meal here. pretty view and personable service. nice area for a stroll on a warm evening. both of us tonight chose the cod fish and chips. the fish arrived piping hot and tasted very fresh, fresher than most. a bit put off by what we considered heavy beer batter. but it was edible. the fries were nice and sturdy to hold the ketchup and the tasty house made lemon-caper tartar sauce if you like. the flavor profile of included pickle slaw was definitely unique. not a big pickle fan really, but it was a nice palate cleanser. the portion was very, very small. almost like a condiment cup. for the meal cost, think it should be a bit larger. the meal and the location were worth it o our visit. would try again. read more

We met new friends there on a Saturday evening. The pub was incredibly quiet, however we enjoyed our visit. A table left just before us and we left right after them, before closing time. Walking to our cars, two staff member outside commented that it was about time we left. I was shocked and appalled by this behaviour. I brought this to the attention of a manage and judging by his reaction he doesn't care. What a great pub!, we ate here a few times this past week lunch and dinner, great service, polite and friendly servers go out of their way to make your visit enjoyable. Next time I will ask for sauce on the side, it was good but I'm not saucy....Bison burger and real fries- Mr. B demolished it all. Hearty portions. The pub is managed as a pub, the beverages are the most important then the food. The atmosphere was missing, felt like I was in a cafeteria, the food is mediocre. Have been here a few times over the past six or so years. It's one place the locals will point you to for a decent meal, don't believe them!!!!! Went with some fishing buddies who like good food. They had the crab and steak. Most of the steaks weren't cooked properly and sent back. All of the crab was over cooked and the meat stuck to the shells because it was way overdone. Another time a different group wanted to go, yuck. They got something like the chicken wrapped something and it was horrible, prepackaged, microwaved grossness. Nice location, drinks are fine and appies aren't too bad. If you go there stick to a few drinks, some nibblies then go anywhere else for dinner. Visiting town with my husband and 3 month old daughter, we heard good things of the seafood at the Riptide and had decided to dine here with my family and local friends. Upon entering we were declined a visit due to my baby girl not being allowed in, despite the B.C liquor reforms allowing children in pubs, we were told it was an establishment decision. Taken aback by this unusual situation, we had to dine elsewhere. I understand that there are certain places that are less suitable for babies and children, however I strongly feel that families should be able to dine at a local pub and restaurant without any discrimination. Due to this unfortunate experience I can honestly say it made me feel awful, and as a result I will not come to, nor recommended the Riptide in the future. read more

Yelping for restaurants in Campbell river is tough, very few reviews and not enough food pictures. Figured I need to do my part so here it is. Staying at one of the lodges for fishing and didn't want to eat at the high priced April point restaurants where entrees were $36 each. A local recommended Rip Tide and I was so impressed by the food. All was delicious! Had the sirloin steak, seafood pasta, teriyaki chicken wings, and duck poutine. Previous night ate at the pub at painters lodge which was just okay, so we were so happy to find rip tide because the food was all really really good. Oh, had dessert (chocolate flourless cake and creme brûlée)--both were fine. It's the cooked food that would make me return again. One star taken off for slow service. Food took over 45 minutes. Also, our steak initially was over cooked. Our wonderful server apologized for the steak, got us a new one and took 10% off our bill. I ended up giving him a good tip for doing so. Go eat here. I'm picky with meals, and you won't be disappointed with the food. read more

Riptide is a local establishment in Campbell River since 1997, more of a locals and boaters hangout than the other nearby establishment. After enjoying our lunch there, we thought we'd give this one a try as its on the top of the list of recommendations by our local contacts. We went for a drink and stayed for dinner. The bartender was an older fellow who'd been around for a long time and could fill us in on the local scoop. Hubbie and I both ordered the sirlion, mine with the gorgonzola butter. The roasted potatoes and 5 kinds of roasted veggies were excellent, so good that I took the tasty steak home for later. That didn't stop me from trying their sticky toffee pudding- a BC concoction. Their version with ginger in the cake, caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream was very good. They have a good selection of beers on tap and a fairly decent wine list. There isn't anything about this place that I would change. Local flavor, local produce, done to a high standard. Definitely our best meal in Campbell River. Two steak dinners and 5 drinks for about $65. Great value for the money. read more

Food is ok, I had seafood chowder in cup and wish I ordered the soup in bowl (as cup portion is too small, I should have add another $1 to have bowl instead, sushi portion is a bit small. My husband ordered nacho with chicken which is good. Place is pretty cool to hang out and they have very good wifi too. Will go back again if I visited Campbell river. Beautiful view. Clean and busy dinner service. We shared the tomato, cucumber, spinach, feta cheese salad with a yogurt lemon and dill dressing. The dill freshened the salad. I had the Hali bites: deep fried halibut with tartar sauce and cocktail sauce sides. He had half order of nachos which was HUGE! Good food. Friendly staff. Great wine by the glass list.
