It's a cozy place right near the ocean, everything is laid back and friendly and the food is delicious. The menu isn't huge but it need not be since they have an offering for most eating types. They have a wood-fired baking oven to cook their pizzas and breads. Additionally, the server explains what's in your dish and where it came from. From what I could gather, just about everything served is grown in their garden or made on-site (pasta). Obviously, everything was very fresh and flavorful. I ordered the pasta with asparagus, house-cured bacon and roasted garlic in a white sauce. It was delicious though personally I thought it could have used a bit of a kick with some cayenne or chipotle sprinkled on top. We all shared a bit so I tried some of the pizzas too and they were great. I finished off the meal with a dark cocoa carrot cake - it was dark but only had a hint of chocolate since it was only cocoa. Everything is served on wood plates/bowls that are made by Katie's father. You can also wander around and see the garden and pet the sheep! There isn't a whole lot of seating so reservations are a good idea.

The menu options were quite vast, and there were some special options available off the menu as well. I had the "Treasure Chest" to start, which was cod bites, calamari, scallops, and shrimp served in a bed of fries. This was probably the best part of the meal, as the portions were big and the seafood was relatively fresh. I also had a French Onion soup, which was unfortunately awful. Shredded melted cheese was simply not it. I shared mussels with my parents, which were some of the smallest I've ever seen. It was quite plain, it said olive oil and garlic was supposed to be included, but I barely saw it. Finally there was a crab au gratin on special, which I decided to order with onion rings on the side. Similar to the mussels, the crab was small and there was barely any meat on it. Service was also quite rushed. My family felt like they were trying to chase us out even though it wasn't completely full. Can't say this was a good experience overall sadly.

The museum takes you through the beginnings of Gander from a strategic military site to a busy transatlantic refuelling stop. There's also a flight simulator and a DC-3 cockpit to see. If you're passing through Gander, it's a neat place to stop just off the Trans Canada Highway.

I liked the museum, but the 911 Tour was worth the trip from St. Louis. Abby, the tour guide, was so informative. The day we went on the tour we met Brian Mosher who was a teacher/media center director for the Gander High School during the September 11 hijackings. My wife and I were moved to tears at several times during his talk with us. The reason we visited Gander was to see if the people were as presented in the "Come from away" play. We were so happy with our experience there. If you travel to Gander, you have to go on the 911 Beyond World Tours.
