Both online reviews and our host's recommendations led us to try to eat here, but we had a terrible experience, possibly the result of racism
We stopped by during lunch but the host told us they would not be open for another half hour. So we ate at Bistrot Miranda next door but tried to make a reservations. The host told us to come back at 7:30 but that they don't take reservations.
We cut short drinks with nice live music at Palazzo Petrus to hurry to Il Cocco for our anticipated dinner, but a younger host greeted us at the door by asking if we had a reservation. When we said we had been told to come without a reservation, he changed his story, saying that they only take reservations for groups of 15 or more, but that they were full. Considering that the place was nearly empty, we doubted this story. But the host was adamant. We could not help wondering whether the fact that we had showed up with three African-American grandchildren was the reason why they were "unable" to accommodate us.
