This place has a special place in my heart. I went years ago, then returned and the whole family remembered me Probably mainly because Im not Italian in any way shape or form but I do speak the language. the Crazy thing is the couple who owns it, the wife's mother is from Argentina. Well I also speak some Spanish and it made a very interesting experience the first time I visited. Now the wife's oldest daughter also works here and speaks Italian, Spanish and English. so service is quite multilingual when Im in town. To maybe the dismay of the other local customers. The husband Carlo is the current chef and his daughter is now the 4th generation to work in the business. It is local seafood from the vendors just across the street who row out and get the product for the Ligurian waters. A typical preparation is a local fish cooked with potatoes, olives, capers and garlic. It is a beautifully simple dish. ANother thing they do quite well is pasta and bottarga, i've had two versions one with and one without vongole. I prefer the former because the bottarga is the star. it's so damn good. but it is the family that makes this place for sure. I've met chef Carlo's parents as well and they're a little confused and enamored that an American would be in their little place and speaking their languages. and that is why I travel . Cuisine is culture and this place has it in spades read more
