Cantina Garibaldi - A great Lambrusco wine you will not regret. More pricey than the average Lambrusco but so much worth it.

This a review for the new location in Puianello, always in the Province of Reggio Emilia…read more The name was a great tradition in Cavriago and now it renews itself in Puianello, a small village between the mostly known Quattro Castella and Albinea on the Crostolo river. Great atmosphere, great local food with its own spin and super nice service. They do host live concerts during the week. Check the website for events just in case you do not want to get in the middle of a concert hall rather than a quite place to drink or eat. I had a great dinner tonite with a good erbazzone (local savory cake based on spinach and cheese) as starter. Then my friend had a very good risotto with pumpkins and salsiccia (pork sausage) and I had a super nice horse tagliata served with cherry tomatoes, onions and abundant rucola. Super nice. Dessert came in with a delicious cannolo filled with superb ricotta cream and a special pears upside down tartatein with nuts and resins ....yummy double yummy! Delicious. The wine list is good and lot of local flavors. My choice, after checking with the very knowledgeable owner who is really a super nice lady, was a very special local Lambrusco whine (bubbly red lighted whine) coming from the nearby Quarticiello farm, Ortigiara Lambrusco, very very good and perfect match to these local flavors. Not too busy on a Sunday evening but I heard is mostly all full over the week and especially Friday and Saturday so give them a ring to reserve your table. Easy and free parking just in front of it. Not pricey at all, very reasonable and definitely great bargain for the quality. My fav in the area for a fast byte or a drink and stay as much as you want to enjoy friends food and company.

We had a wonderful lunch there and were treated to some truly amazing Italian dishes. When they found out we were from Australia, they presented us with a book of all the top restaurants in Italy (they were in it, of course!). We highly recommend Caffe Arti as a great place for wonderful food and hospitality.

Italian with a new…read moretwist... very good twist :) It is a pricey place where you do not want to go eat every day but for special evenings/lunches or just a fancy occasion is definitely the place to be. The entrance is not on the main Via Emilia street but you have to pass under the the arcade. You get to this pretty and well kept garden and there at the end you have the entrance to the restaurant which is like a private home door. Inside the ambiance is modern very raffinate and essential with a round balcony with all the tables on the first floor and ground floor with ample space for walking and sitting. As I said the food is not really the typical one fro Reggio even if you can find the typical names on the menu like Tortelli, Cappeletti and so on... the way the food is cooked and presented is definitely modern and new with very smart and great / tasty ideas. The service is top of the scale and everyone is very very gentle and polite... maybe a bit snobbish.. but hey... it creates the atmosphere :) Pricey.... yes.. but totally worth it. If you are a local you will for sure meet someone you know !! Reggio after all is a small city. In Summer there are few tables set in the garden. Reservation is a MUST!!

Walked by this place in the afternoon looking for the laundromat and arrived just as they closed…read morefor the afternoon siesta so we were unable to grab some lunch. We decided to go for a late dinner as we had enjoyed what we had seen at the tail end of the lunch service. What a great choice! We were seated at a table for two across from the pass through from the kitchen. Normally I would not be overly pleased with this seat location, but the sheer volume of activity made it the place to be. We watched as a large number of dishes at a time were assembled and whisked off to their awaiting guests. We ordered a bottle of red wine from our server, an older Gentleman that clearly was one of the people in charge of the floor. We determined a couple of appetizers and ordered from him our selections. He immediately made us aware that our selections were not what we should order, given our wine selection and the specialties of the house. He couldn't have been more right as our appy's of spinach and pumpkin stuffed ravioli's in a butter sauce and tortellini in brodo (chicken broth) was outstanding. The lovely K found the brodo on the salty side, but I found it to be terrific. We make our own chicken stock at home, painstakingly using old fashioned methods, no salt added and found that this broth had a depth of flavour that is difficult to replicate. The ravioli's were superb, the pasta beautiful and delicate and the filling amazing. Our secondi, we had breaded veal for myself and grilled rib eye for K. We got to chatting with a German couple and her Father as our second course arrived and did not finish either. That said both were well prepared and although the only things on the plate (we passed on the accompaniments off the cart as we were already getting full) they were again perfectly prepared. The atmosphere is what one would expect from a place that caters to families, especially on a the Sunday of a long weekend. The following day was a national holiday (Liberation Day) so spirits were high, and the volume loud. People wander from table to table visiting. We watched a Grandpa, Grandma and Mother walk around with a baby each taking turns while the others visited. It was a heartwarming and stomach satisfying experience in the middle of Italy that we will not soon forget. Dining in places like this is what Italy and family dining is all about. To illustrate this further the German couple and her Father we met by chance as they were at the table beside us we will be dining with in Rome later on this week, how does it get better than that.
