Most of the time I end up here for X-rays and I can't say I've ever had a bad experience. Waits are never too long and the reception's always friendly. I've also had the odd ultrasound too. Not baby style ultrasound but abdomen ones to check out what's going on inside. It can be a bit daunting especially as you have to consume a ridiculous amount of water before you go in. Lying on a bed while the ultrasound technician ums and ahhs over some weird picture of your uterus on the screen while you're about to wet yourself is so traumatic! In my experience, however, the staff have always tried to make me feel as comfortable as you possibly can while feeling like you're going to burst!

The track we need for roller derby is slightly larger than a basketball court, which means when we hire the place, half of the downstairs seats have to be pushed into the wall, decreasing the capacity, but that's okay. If you're hiring out the stadium on a Saturday, you need to hire the place out for the whole day - we're usually out by 10pm but we have to pay for the place until midnight. The staff are really helpful - there's a staff member who helps with the bleachers and a safety officer who checks all the entrances are clear. The venue itself is a bit old - everything is wooden and probably circa 70s or 80s. You could go elsewhere to find more up-to-date facilities, but you won't get anything as close to town as this.

I first went to a City Fitness where the only option they could offer me was $20NZ per visit (and the gym was being remodeled, so half the equipment wasn't even there). I saw there was a YMCA closeby so i went to give it a try. WOW! The staff couldn't have been nicer. It's not a huge gym but it has a couple of squat racks, free weights, a decent amount of weight machines and cardio equipment. They also have group fitness classes. They also charged me $28NZ for a "casual week" (7 days) which is very reasonable. Glad i found this!

I've just returned to yoga after a year-long hiatus and Yoga By The Sea was my first stop. It was…read morean evening class at their main venue at the Sea Scout's Hall on Devonport's waterfront and the tide was high so you could zone out to the sound of water lapping away at your feet while sunset sky-light filtered through the windows. Sound picturesque? It was! Seriously, I can't wait till next week. Yoga By The Sea is based in Devonport and has a core team of instructors that teach a range of different classes from restorative practices to more core-strength focused ones. There's even a 'stretch and stride' class which combines cardio fitness with yoga through walking and circuit training and core yoga work en route. If this all sounds a little specific there's actually a general class that takes place most days and anyone can go. The great thing about yoga is that you go at your own pace and one class can cater to beginners and advanced alike, so any of these classes are great and I've been to most of them over the years. Make sure to check the schedules regularly though as they seem to change frequently around school holiday time.

Not only have i got my medical data all pre-loaded onto it in case of emergency but i also have loaded important documents onto the card so they are always with me (Passport, Copy of drivers license, warranty documents and even my resume) The card is 2gb so i can fit just about anything on it. Having my Tutis ICE card with me at all times gives me peace of mind.

The ascent to a better self is only two flights of stairs away and I was blown away by the interiors. The classes themselves are liberating, a place to come to let go of everything and just focus on yourself. Each time you come to class you become stronger, both mentally and physically, Bikram is one of the best things you can do for yourself I think. Each of the instructors have slightly different styles, I love Tyronne and his bongo! Rebeckh the owner of Bikram Yoga Britomart is such a lovely person, just wanting to help others enhance their lives through yoga, if you go often enough you'll see her in the odd class too, taking not teaching. The classes are all beginners, anyone could do and would benefit from taking Bikram yoga. I started going more regularly in the last month and noticed a huge difference in my body, flexibility, posture, muscle tone, state of mind. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

The waiting room might be a bit on the small side but it is stocked with good glossy magazines. My family member says that the technicians are all very good. A sentiment I agree with as about a year ago I had to get some tests done and the team was highly efficient. The parking is easy and the location is excellent, next door to my medical centre.

That being said, it is a professional place. You go in and usually you don't even need to sit down for more than a few minutes because they are quite efficient. If you do have to wait it is on one of maybe 3 chairs and you will have the pick of magazines on offer. The staff are friendly, polite and professional. Once you are in that cubicle it is on. I have unfortunately had a few blood tests done in my time and I knew it was only a matter of time before one of them went a bit awry. This happened recently when she had to double prick me in each arm, because she forgot to draw more than one tube of blood (ick) out of a single arm. So that was annoying, but she apologised and it was fine. I'm assuming it was just one of those day for her. Other than that. Spot on most days.
