My first Christmas season in Stuttgart, I bombarded my Stateside family with Ritter Sport. They have something for everyone, and it doesn't get more fresh that right from the factory. Besides, who doesn't like chocolate? Cartoon villains, that's it. Vegan? Covered. Seasonal flavors? Got 'em. Buckets of nougat, you better believe it. I can get gift boxes and comically large candies, sacks of chocolate squares, and much of it is discounted. Museum only, No tours [Waldenbuch, Germany] We arrived a little early at the museum hoping to inquire about a tour (similar to the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield CA or the Tillamook Creamer in OR) but unfortunately it wasn't offered. Museum Ritter and Chocolate Exhibition is directly adjacent to the Ritter Sport chocolate factory. There are featured art collection in the museum on the second floor. A short video depicting the history of the chocolate was also shown in a small theatre. The Ritter Sport Chocolate Exhibition tells the story behind these popular square chocolate bar and the successful brand behind it. This experience involves all of the senses -- guests smell, taste, hear and feel their way through the world of the cocoa bean! Then we made our way to the SchokoLaden shop where we stocked up on my favorites and amazing bargain-priced chocolates! The Ritter Sport Chocalte Museum, Shop and restaurant was a fun detour from our worked filled week! You can find hundreds of Ritter chocolate variations for sell, including rare, unique and experimental flavors. The Museum is on the second floor, and the Cafe is on the first floor. At the café, we had the Ritter Sport latte, which boasts a whole chocolate bar melted inside, and a slice of strawberry, rhubarb and white chocolate pie. Recommended! read more

2nd time here. Husband's 1st time. I took a billiom picture's of every inch of this place. The museum and all its i fo from beginning to now, I think. Lol. I took pictures of the chocolate candy store ooooh myyy! So much chocolate. In the back is all the sales and bulk candy bags of this and that to send home to the family in the states and other countries so folks can get a taste of Germany. The museum is up stairs. Place is clean of course and there's a chocolate flavor to please every taste bud, even RUM chocolate. Ooooh yeah did I mention choc for the Vegans and Lactose intolerant! Yesssss honey, honestly. The chocolate store is fantastic, and don't miss the back room where they have factory seconds and mixed bags of treats dirt cheap, but consider having a snack or lunch in the cafe as well. The food was surprisingly delicious, and the hot cocoa was utterly fantastic (not surprisingly). The menu is a lot more substantial than you'd think, and everything we had was good. On a nice day with the doors open and patio tables, this would be a great place for a mid-day break! Also, a chocolate store. read more

Have you ever wanted to win a Willy Wonka golden ticket just for the lifetime supply of free chocolate? If you answered yes, you have to try to get yourself to the discount store in the Ritter Sport museum! They sell "damaged" bars of chocolate for up to 90% off! "Damaged" means the boxes are dented, the wrapper colors don't meet the normal standard or *gasp* there aren't enough nuts in the batch. There's nothing really wrong with them at all. My friends and I all left with bags and bags of chocolate! The story of how I ended up going on a tour here is quite interesting. When I was in Germany with some friends a few years ago we went for a daytrip to Tübingen. On the way drove by the Ritter Sport factory and we all got really excited! So, the next chance we had, our hosts took us to visit the chocolate factory! The displays in the factory are interesting - they show how chocolate is made, and how other ingredients like nuts and Alpine milk are sourced ethically and responsibly for their chocolate bars. read more

Rittersport isn't just for chocolate lovers, fanatics, aficionados, or fiends... though there's certainly plenty to keep them happy. Rittersport factory now has a great little cafe that has superb sandwiches, desserts, snacks, wine, and German beers. Oh yes... The little ones can push the green button in the little chocolate factory model to get a small treat sent via a model truck to their happy sugar-loving hands... Mama can gather chocolate of flavors almost uncountable with hats, bags, games, and more adorned with the Rittersport logo... and the Chocolate tolerating Papas of the world can have a tall glass of Pils and count the birds frolicking equally happy in the fields outside the giant windows. Rittersport now makes dentists AND families happy. Ahhhh.... Seriously, though... this is a must stop. Discount chocolate, a great little museum (takes 30 minutes), Logo items, a tasty cafe and walking fields all around for folks to walk off the sugar high, beer buzz, or chocolate calories. Entry is free to the Museum and store. Cafe prices are reasonable. ambiance is German Mod/cool with a bit of cute-ness. Waitresses and Staff do pretty well in English. We finally made it considering its about ten minutes from us. Our plan was candy and snack. We hit the store which was well laid out. The back room that everyone talks about was packed. I'm not sure why though. Yes, it's discounted but not by much. You get a 2k bag of the medium size bars which comes to €0.57 each. It's just random bars. The bag is clear so you can kinda pick through the large bags to get a few you want. In the main room, the same bars are €0.69 each but you can pick whatever you want. The price difference Really isn't worth it. The cookies and those type snacks are cheap and aren't offered in the main store. They also have the seasonal, BIO, and hard to find yummies. Then there is the METER of minis. Yeah it's a meter long boxed stack of minis. It makes a great gift. We had planned on getting coffee and a snack but there was a line. I thought it was a counter service type cafe but its table served. There were slices of cakes and pies on display, which luckily there was glass to keep my drool from drowning them. There wasn't room for us so since we knew we were coming back, we decided that Saturday afternoon wasn't the best time for us. We skipped the museum since our mission was chocolate. Parking is free but you must fight for it. We spent €19.45 and got a shopping bag of goodies. They take MC/Visa! Go during nice weather when the cafe patio is open. Awesome place with tons of different flavors to choose from. Flavors you can't get in the US and with out all of the preservatives and much cheaper. They even have "trial" flavors that they are testing out. My carry on luggage now consist of all chocolate. They have a cafe where you can get food but did not go in. read more

I don't know whether I'm blessed or cursed for living in the next town over from the Ritter store. Last summer, I regularly rode my bike from my house to Waldenbuch to grab a handful of their signature chocolate squares. Burn some calories to earn some calories! Occassionally, I'll stop by to eat at the cafe (great btw!) then stop by the store and get more chocolate. The store has all the varieties of Ritter Sport chocolates to include the seasonal special editions. Head to the rear of the store for discounted bars. They also have have Ritter Sport branded stuff if you're a die hard fan. Don't forget to hit the museum to get a free chocalate square from the miniature factory! read more

Bags and bags and bags of yummy chocolate at steeply discounted prices await you at the Ritter Sport Factory store.
