I'm relatively new to Ritzy but my wife has been bringing her 2 dogs here for a while now and on our 2 most recent trips mine have tagged along. So now all 4 of our dogs go here and I've yet to see a problem with how they are treated or how they come home afterwards. All 4 of them are in good moods, seem well fed and hydrated. They are all relatively medium-big sized dogs and when I went into the area they are kept it looked as if they had plenty of space. I find it hard to believe those other 2 poor reviews. Either their dogs are the most high maintenance animals in the history of animals, or they had a personal vendetta against the owners, which looked like it may have been the case with how Average K personally attacked the owners. We're soon moving to kc so I'm not sure if we will still be lucky enough to use Ritzy, but you can bet that if we have enough time to get them here, we will. read more

Barb and Gary of Ritzy Rascals have watched my hyperactive boxer numerous times. He gets so excited to pull down the gravel road and into their driveway that he nearly rocks the car with his wiggles. They match dogs up with those that are in the same size and activity level to allow them to play together. They give all of the dogs plenty of time outside to run and romp. Your dog can be boarded either in an indoor kennel, an outdoor kennel, or ones that have access to the outside. You're able to bring items such as blankets, toys, and specific foods should you feel that your dog would prefer to have those while being away from home. And they will provide a rubber matt to sleep on for an extra fee. The best part of all is the pricing. I doesn't cost much at all to have your dog there overnight and they will also groom and clip toenails for a small additional fee. So, when I've come home from MY vacations, my dog is exhausted, clean, and has had a vacation himself. It should also be noted that I would be very leary of leaving my dogs with just anyone. After having a referral from a pet rescue, reading the reviews, looking at Ritzy Rascals website, and talking with Gary by phone, I chose to board my dogs for 3 days and 2 nights December 6-8, 2012 while my father underwent major surgery. I have trained horses and dogs for over 20 years and never would I have predicted the abuse my dogs were about to suffer under the hands of Gary and Barbara. First of all, don't believe there hype including the deceiving photos on this website or anything that either Barbara or Gary have to say. The home and kennel facility connected by a breezeway is an old trailer. There home was filthy and I could hear cries and whimpers coming from behind a locked door next the bathroom I used in their residence. I can't say that I observed a kennel license posted anywhere. Under the circumstances, I had little choice but to leave them despite my deep reservations. Major issues as follows: One of my dogs didn't want to go into the kennel and put the brakes on. As a trainer, I use a pressure and release technique. If an animal takes just one step forward I will release the pressure. It is important to be patient and wait for the animal to choose to move through the steady hold, and when the animal moves forward the handler immediately releases pressure, hence, you teach the animal that the reward is in the release. Everybody wins! If all else fails, treats never hurt. Barbara snatched the leash from my hands, which is a BIG NO, NO and angrily drug my dog on his belly twisting and choking all the way by the leash. The chain link topless cages are constructed consecutively leaving dogs face to face with other dogs on both sides. The loud, frantic dogs were all clearly stressed. No one ever returned my 2 calls when checking up on my dogs during their hours of operation. They left my dogs in the breezeway for me to pick up as I was going to be an hour late due to my father's hospitalization. I found them in the breezeway crammed in separated cages. They couldn't stand up, sit, or lay down due to the cages being way too small for their size. They were totally stressed and one of my dogs who has had a history of seizures demonstrated all the signs of having had one while in confinement in the breezeway cages. Both dogs' rears were covered with feces and their coats were urine soaked. The breezeway cages were dry meaning this happened in the kennel. Even with front-line Plus that I apply every month faithfully; they still had a ridiculous amount of flea bits. My dog bed was sopping wet with urine and water, indicative of being hosed off which I speculate occurred when they hosed out the kennel at some point. The brand new dog toys and bones I marked with their names and sent with them was never chewed on. In other words, they didn't bother putting these in the kennel with them. They over fed dogs by more than 3 times the amount. I specifically outlined in writing and I clearly marked on the food bag the amount to be feed. I included the exact size-measuring cup. I explained that I was leaving extra food just in case they had to stay longer. When I picked my dogs up there was an empty bag and trash in the dog bag I had packed for them. All the food was gone and they are both on a special Veterinarian prescribed diet. They either free fed by dumping all the food into a bowl, or on the floor. On the other hand, they may have fed other dogs my food. I called Sunday Dec. 9thduring operating hours to request an explanation and I have yet to receive a return call. Once home they each drank 5 gallons of water. Yes, I said 5 gallons each. They pooped and peed in the house, which they have never ever done and it took me a week to correct this behavior. A clear sign that they never went anywhere but their kennel to eliminate. I had to take one of my dogs to the Vet right away, as the color of her urine didn't look right and sure enough; she had a bladder infection. She has never suffered from any kind of infection and my Vet concluded the cause was from being left to sit in her own urine and feces or she was raped by an intact male dog. My dogs now display aggression towards other dogs, which again, was never an issue. Dear Barbara and Gary, If you are reading this, it should come as no shock. Some day I hope to have the opportunity and pleasure to treat you in the same fashion. Not only should you be ashamed for the abuse you dish out to those without a voice but should seek immediate psychological help, as you should all to well know Barbara. I have taken my dog to Ritzy Rascals many times before, but after the experience I had with them taking care of my parents dogs and the way Barbara treated us, I WILL NEVER RETURN. Nor would I recommend them to anyone! While dropping off the dogs, one of them climbed out of the pen, obviously giving my parents quite the scare and adding to the nervousness of leaving them in a kennel for the first time. I reassured them that things would be fine and we could call and check on them the next day to make sure they had settled in. After two phone calls and one message that went unreturned, my parents spent the rest of their vacation worried about their dogs. Once the dogs were picked up and in the car, they noticed that one of them had dry feces ALL over her rear end. Once cleaned up she was red and raw and it had obviously been there for a while. Of course I apologized to my parents because I had recommended the place to them and felt awful that we had had such a bad experience with them. So I wrote an email to Barbara explaining what had happened. The response I was looking for was an apology and sorry we overlooked that. What I got was defensive and rude and putting the blame on my parents and their dogs. Her appalling customer service aside, if it is common practice to let a dog stay covered in feces until they are picked up, I would hate to see what else they allow to happen. One of her many rude comments back was about not looking in that area, but when it's a white dog whose tail naturally curls over her back, it is not hard to notice the tennis ball sized circle of dried poop around her butt! What terrible way to treat a loyal customer of 3 years! Update: It should be noted that Barbara's first apology was followed by comments about us being needy pet owners and she was sorry that we needed daily reassurance. Not the case, we called the first two days to make sure one dog that had escaped intially was settled in. After not receiving a return call we stopped trying. She followed her needy statement with, some dogs come in covered in feces and they had no way of knowing that was not how our dog showed up to her facility. Even if that was the case, as a dog lover would you really let a dog be covered in feces and leave it that way for a week, hello infection! Her second apology came after I emailed her stating that just an apology would have been appreciated without all of the blame being put on us. So her second apology was, "Sorry you feel this way. And I am sorry your parent's pet potties while sitting down." Neither apology was sincere to me. Lastly, it was noticed by my parents almost immediately after getting on the road. Keep in mind they were picking up four dogs at once, two of which have to be kept separated, so it was a little hectic. read more

I am a huge fan of Ritzy Rascals! Referred by a friend a few years ago, they have been a wonderful home away from home for my labrador. My dog has severe allergies, food and other, needs special medicines and specific measuring of food. My lab comes home healthy and healthy, every time. I can tell by her energy, shiny coat and weight that she was well cared for. She loves it there! When we turn toward Carbondale she is so excited, wagging her tail as if it will fall off. Last time I dropped her off she ran to Barb and gave her a kiss!!! This time it was time to greet Gary! Her time at Ritzy's has made her more social too. I used to board at a sterile "state of the art" kennel. My dog would fill with anxiety and often act out or get ill when I got her hom. I have boarded her at Ritzy for two days and once for a month. She comes home full of energy and kisses. Barb and Gary have always worked with family emergencies or weather travel problems. Now my guilt for boarding my girl is gone. I feel like she gets to go on vacation when I do! This is a lovely farm atmosphere, safety procedures for inclement weather and above all loving care. Always bring your dogs updated list of shots. We dropped our baby boy (100 pounds of Black Lab) off at Ritzy Rascals for 5 days when we went to Disney World- Gary and Barb are wonderful people- very professional and you can tell they love what they do- The facility is clean and well maintained. Ritzy rascals pet resort just outside of Carbondale, has been a great blessing. First of all the owners Gary & Barbara are such a genuine, skilled, down to earth husband & wife team. They pay attention to even the smallest details. Whether it be trimming coats or clipping nails, Barbara has all the tools she needs to make your dog look its best, right in the basement of their home. My dog, Sampson, is always happy to see them!! He is a 7 year old golden retriever and picky about his diet. They have taken my instructions to feed him only twice a day with the food i have provided, and followed it precisley as i have asked. Since Sampson rarley hangs with other dogs besides our neighbors, it is great to know he will have time to run and play either by himself or with the other regular dogs there that he is used to. They have a rural setting and plenty of room for the dogs to get real fresh air and sunshine while they stay. Sampson has always come home pampered and refreshed after my leaving him behind. Many thanks to Gary and Barbara for always going above and beyond to treat me and my dog like family! If Sampson behaves, I will have to consider the VIP suite on our next visit!!! I have shopped at many department stores, dined at various restaurants, traveled on several cruise lines, flown with many airlines, but I have never taken the time to write a review about any business or experience until now. Ritzy Rascals Pet Resort is truly one to take a minute to write about!! The welcoming smiles and accommodation my dog, Corky and I received from Barbara and Gary was our first impression, and a lasting one. I had always boarded Corky at the local vet's office and of course always felt bad for him, not that the staff wasn't nice, but he wasn't going to have much freedom there. At Ritzy Rascals, it truly is a vacation for your dogs, and Corky's tail never stopped waggling. I felt at ease leaving him there and I trust Barbara and Gary completely. They have caring hearts for animals and for their owners. I am VERY thankful that I can travel and know that my dog is being truly cared for and loved. Barbara has a very special talent with dogs, as well as Gary. I HIGHLY suggest giving them a call and utilizing the MANY services they provide for well worth the price. Our pets have a very special place in our hearts, like our children, being able to have a safe haven for my dog when I need, is priceless!
