The food is delicious. Friendly and attentive staff. Prices are fair. Highly recommend.

Never again. Course was in horrible condition minus the greens, the trees are overgrown on to the fairways to where you couldn't hit the ball at a normal height on about half of any given hole, the grass needed cut, the dining areas have not been updated since the 1990s, and the staff was pretentious. The golf carts were outdated and poorly maintained. During the banquet reception, the speakers' microphones kept going in and out. Nobody cared to step up and replace them. I was embarrassed for the club. It was sloppy. I would have been extremely mad had I paid to play that course. Luckily I didn't have to pay because it was a company sponsored event. Right now, I'd question playing this course again even if I got to play for free. I think I'll just stick with playing at my club and save the drive. The place needs new ownership and management. They just need to start from scratch. read more

I'm not much of a golfer, but I love food!. The food at Lily's is absolutely delicious and the service is great. I was here for work. And the owners were so kind and accommodating. I really enjoyed to food. I had the turkey wrap and it was so good. As I said, I'm not a golfer...but I will make up reason to return and try out more of the food. read more

The worst golf course I played in the last 2 years. There is NOTHING good I could say about how bad it is. The guy at the pro shop was rude. There is more to how bad the golf course. There was one bright spot the bartender was very nice. read more

We decided to try golfing here after driving by it for years. We heard there were new owners and that they had a passion for golf. The staff was super nice and very welcoming, however we played as a twosome and encountered a wait at each hole to tee off and play. Not a big deal when two play instead of 4. However we were told by the marshal to watch our pace of play twice despite having to wait on people in front of us. By the time we were on the fourth tee we had three groups in front of us constantly searching for balls and not working in the least about pace of play. The Marshall never approached them to tell them to speed up or to allow thee faster groups to play through. That was the first issue The second thing we encountered was not a single hole had signage to show what the hole layout was. Having never played the course we were hitting blind. This wouldn't be an issue if the score card had hole pictures on it, but yet again no images just yardage from the tee to hole. We're not scratch golfers in any stretch of the word but it would be nice to know where water, sand and doglegs were on the course. The course is wasn't in bad shape, the ball hit nicely and the greens were challenging and fast as described on their site. Kudos on that. However there were several sprinklers that were either not functioning properly or were under maintenance. Each had a huge hole around them that easily could cause terrible injury if you fell in one. My wife was walking to a ball and narrowly missed falling into one. I know it is a transition time for the new managers but come on you can go get temporary signs made to show the hole layouts, put ropes around the sprinkler holes of death and address the easily addressable parts of the course while planning for long term improvements. Between the waits we had at each hole and the other issues we decided to leave after 8 holes and go to a different course. Which is a shame because we had already paid for 18 holes. Hitting your shot then waiting 10 minutes for the three groups in front of you to clear got too frustrating. read more

My son and I played golf today and stayed for dinner. OMG! The course is in terrific shape, the course had a lot of players but no wait and dinner was amazing. One of the owners stopped by our table to introduce herself and couldn't have been nicer. She is hands on and just lovely. These are new owners and, as much as I loved the former owners, these folks have taken the course and restaurant to another level! Highly recommend!!!! read more

These must be old reviews, because i have never seen a course in such bad condition. Literally parts of the greens were just dirt. The fairways in some parts completely dried out. No sprinkler system and no watering apparently. Just almost unplayable. Put some money into maintenance. Do not golf here. read more

There is no prettier place to have a hearty and healthy lunch or dinner at great value where Butler, Armstrong, Westmoreland and Allegheny Counties converge. I recommend the open faced steak sandwich or seafood salad. Generous portions, fun and friendly staff, great bar! read more

Special birthday event with whing golf Every year I arrange for a special birthday activity with my friends and this time I choose "Whing Golf" at the River Forest Country Club. I had never golfed before, in my entire life, and I came with 10 friends of mine, the majority of which had never golfed either. We were explained how to play and, after a few holes, our teams really started getting a hang of it and everybody loved it! The course is beautiful, the location very easy to reach and my friends were so happy to do something new. We all had fun and everybody is considering coming back again to play Whing Golf. At the end of the afternoon, we went to their Restaurant Lily's and we had a nice dinner in the veranda, where the food was good and the menu not banal at all. We split some appetizers, family style and we accommodated vegetarian and not vegetarian friends. Drinks menu is also very good, with a wide selection of liquors. I am so happy I found the River Forest Country Club: every year I raise the bar for my birthday, and this was absolutely another step up in my birthday experience! read more

One of the worst golf experiences of my life. Course was in horrible condition. The rough was so high you needed a weed whacker to find any balls you hit in there because you weren't finding them. Several greens were also in bad condition with one looking like someone had driven over it. Don't know how you don't try to fix a damaged green. Don't know how you can justify charging full price for a course in awful condition. When the group I was with complained to the manager about the horrible course conditions, we were offered no discount or compensation even for a group member who broke an iron hitting out of the rough that had clearly not been cut for some time. The manager even said he would not have paid to play the course in the condition it was in yet still charged us full price.We were told the owner really only cared about the restaurant above and not the course. Don't understand how you can run a business and only care about half of it. They should care about all of it or sell it to someone who will. I will never golf there again and will tell anyone I know that golf that the course was horrible and to never give them their business. read more

My husband and I chose River Forest for our rehearsal dinner the night before our wedding in June 2013. I have always liked the food here, and we were not disappointed that evening. Our guests chose between the chicken cordon bleu, N.Y. strip steak, or a seafood dish, with a side of rice pilaf, vegetable medley and a salad. Ice cream for dessert. Our guests were happy. But if the food had not been so good, I would have given this place one star instead of two. While planning the event went smoothly with the management, even despite a change in staff, the service that evening was horrendous. I had to go back into the kitchen to ask them to serve our salads, and then our entrees. As the hostess of a special event, I don't think I should have to tell them when to do their jobs while I am trying to greet my guests, listen to toasts, etc. The waitresses never asked our 50 guests if they wanted another drink throughout the evening after the first one, which is just rude and bad business practice. When I requested that my table's waitress ask my bridal party if they would like another drink, she rolled her eyes! One of my bridesmaids commented later that she heard two waitresses hanging by the kitchen (where they were all night) that they just couldn't wait to get us out of there so they could leave. By the way, we didn't stay past 9 p.m. -- a total of 2 hours. Bottom line: This is a yummy place for dinner, but look elsewhere to host an event. read more
