I was so happy we drove by and walked around the Sandra Moon complex last month. Although we didn't…read morego inside, I understand the library opened late last year. This is a special place for me, personally, because the complex is in honor of my long-time best friend's Aunt Sandy, Mrs. Sandra Moon, Huntsville's first female council person. Best Friend and I attended one of the fundraisers for this complex several years ago, and its so nice that everything finally came together and it's opened! The library is a 30,570 sq. ft. facility that replaces the former Bailey Cove Library in Weatherly Plaza. Amenities include an open floor plan designed in a bookstore style, classroom space, private study rooms, art exhibit spaces, A Friends of the Library bookstore, an indoor fireplace, children's room and puppet theater, teen gaming room, outdoor seating with Wi-Fi, a Makerspace Studio, and a children's garden. There is also an on sight coffee shop with snacks available. The Gem and Mineral Society meets in what I think may have been the former Grissom High School field house [or whatever it's called area the football team gets dressed in]. Behind the library are 12 new outdoor lighted pickleball courts; at least one soccer field; walking area; and I think they kept the Grissom High School Tennis Courts. Directly across from the library where the former GHS gym and cafeteria were has been renovated for use in performance and meeting spaces particularly for smaller, community theater-type events. The theater and lunchroom that will be upgraded on the south end of campus will provide more performance opportunities to meet the increasing demand of local groups looking for showtime space. This complex really does have something for everyone! I know Aunt Sandy would be so proud! I cannot wait to actually visit inside both buildings! Glad this has come to fruition ~6 years after fundraising began.

It was a very depressing place to visit and the residents seemed extremely unhappy. The cost was alarmingly high. I am glad I decided against it. Someone was looking out for me when they steered me away.

My mother in law lived here for two years. The tablecloths in the dining room were not changed…read moredaily, or even weekly. Many times she would sit down to eat and the stains from spills were still there. They also store the garbage can where the elderly residents soiled undergarments are disposed of in the laundry room where she was supposed to do her own laundry. When she mentioned it was unsanitary to the housekeeper, she was told that she could "take it up with the owner because he told her she could keep it there." One time when they placed her plate of typically greasy, fried food in front of her and she said she had ordered something else, the dining staff told her, "Oh no you didn't." Just not a place where you want your precious loved ones living. Apparently, the owner doesn't care about the residents and the management has no empowerment to make changes.

I worked in this building for months waiting for an on-site position to be available, and, at that time, this building was brand new! In nice weather Colsa hosted parking lot Friday socials and provided things like Cokes and hot dogs for everyone to enjoy while we visited. The Advanced Research Center (ARC) was built next door and I never had internal business there; however, I did go check out the small-ish lobby area when necessary. Colsa management were all extremely professional approachable people who really listened to you and provided useful feedback, suggestions and guidance! They truly walk in their corporate values: "People are our most valuable resource. Integrity underlies all that we do. Teamwork is integral to success. The facility has an elevator , which is very convenient. Currently, the gym area is being renovated but there are still rooms upstairs if you were needing to rent out a space. The room we occupied was a little on the small side. It served its purpose , nevertheless. Overall this is a decent facility in the community.

Lots of programs for every age and classes that rotate throughout the year. The fitness center is always spotlessly clean, the equipment is as good as any gym I've been to and everything is in good repair. There are treadmills available if you're a walker/runner OR there is a wonderful walking track that is positioned above the gymnasium. Fees are really reasonable and a Senior can join and pay just $100/yr for all-access INCLUDING the POOL! That's $8.33 per month for gym membership with locker room, showers and pool pass! CANNOT BE BEAT!

There's some great study tables upstairs. Spots to sit alone, collaborative tables, some couches/chairs, and even some separate rooms you can rent out. I'm unsure if you have to reserve these ahead of time, but I saw several people using them, primarily to take video calls.
