It was furnished, everything was running, room mates are really nice. However..... 1) I have a parking space in the garage because I am out of state and it's been a hassle to get a parking permit for the street. My spot has been double booked, and I keep getting "threats" from the other tenant that they would tow my car via notes on my window. I don't know the other car, and my permit is hanging from my car's rear-view mirror, so not sure their thought-process there. I've tried getting in touch with the office about the situation. No responses to emails for this past week, and the gate is constantly down. Their noted hours are 9-5 with a break at 12-1. So, a little confused and frustrated there. (It was fine the first week, so maybe this is a different person). 2) Our sinks and all appliances are working fine. However, we've had leaks and my room-mates filed for work-orders since the moved in. No response there. 3) the garage door openers have been having a ton of issues with some not opening/closing the door to begin with. So some are forced to buy a permit to park on the street, including their garage permit. It's been an ongoing issue. 4) the bedroom/apartment is great for a first-time apartment. However, my window has been broken and won't close. Including on that, It's been building mold in the corner and peeling paint from the temperatures/humidity in the window-sill. I have a bunny, so it's a little concerning. Again, no responses from the office or through email. 5) youre supposed to also get a mail key, as stated in the lease, none of my room-mates or be received one. 6) one last thing, theres 0 security. Front doors are always open, same with the garage door sometimes. There's no system and I've seen one camera in the elevator. The only security you have is locking the door to your apartment/bedroom. Which, most times isnt that reliable because the doors are older and have a space in between the wall/frame and the actual door. These issues arose just in one week, when I'm assuming one of the staff members went on vacation/break. The other member that's attending now has been problematic. I've received complaints from both my room-mates and other tenants about no responses and the office always closed. It's a frustrating ride here.

We've lived at the Edge on North Apartments for about 10 months and I have to say the service has improved exponentially. They've hired a Director of Residential Properties who is extremely results oriented and strives to ensure that their residents are being taken care of and happy with their living situations. He doesn't sit behind the desk all day; visits their properties on a regular basis and is quick to address resident's needs. Since he was hired all of our issues were addressed and resolved immediately. It was tough going for the first few months but once everything was fixed it turned in to being a great place to live. It's on the corner of North and Oakland so it's within walking distance of restaurants, bars, shopping, Bradford Beach, Prospect Medical Commons as well as Columbia St. Mary's Hospital. We had a rough start but I'm happy to report they're on the right track and I'd recommend the property to prospective residents. This was absolutely the best apartment we have ever lived in. The management was very nice and attentive, I loved the rooftop deck with patio furniture and grills, and I miss the time my husband and I spent by the fireplace in the clubhouse with the complimentary coffee and tea. They also have a gym, which is small, but wasn't heavily used so I rarely had to wait for a machine I wanted. They had fun resident parties, as well. The location is amazing in downtown Milwaukee. You only have to walk half a block to get into the skywalk system. If you want to take transit, almost all of the bus lines stop along Wisconsin Ave. within a block or two. I worked in Mequon and took the Ozaukee County express to work. My husband was a graduate student at UWM and took the express bus to school. Also, the underground parking was an incredible asset to us, because we started our family here and could go from underground parking to underground parking in the winter without having to bundle our baby. Our apartment had an amazing view of downtown and the lake! The high ceilings made the space feel very spacious and open. We never heard our neighbors, but we were on the 9th (top) floor. You may want to pay attention to where your unit is, because some people complained about construction noise from the parking garage across 4th st. However, it is probably over by now because that was over a year ago. The appliances were basic, but we mostly ate out anyway. I think you can get units with upgraded appliances if you want it.

My parents, their friends, and business clients, all from out of town, are familiar with The Shorecrest and were excited to talk about the building any time we mentioned where we lived. The 1920's art deco style is alive and pulsing through the vanes of every room and hallway, adding a unique flavor of time tested culture and class to the lifestyle of its residents. Prospect Ave on Milwaukee's East Side is quite possibly the best location for an apartment. With its downtown feel, bars of every style, and a variety of restaurants offering just about every type of cuisine imaginable are all within a short walk out the front door. The Shorecrest's location, while right downtown, puts Milwaukee's lakefront parks right in your backyard, offering plenty of open, green space to jog, walk, picnic, and enjoy the outdoors while living in an urban area. We very much enjoyed strolling down Lafayette hill on weekend mornings for a cup of coffee from Collectivo while taking in the view and awe of Lake Michigan and the boats at McKinley Marina. With tennis courts just below the hill, Jazz in the Park a short walk down Prospect, and the fests of Brady Street blocks away, the location of The Shorecrest is an amenity that cant be overlooked. The rent is very reasonable for an East Side, lakefront apartment, and in the three plus years I lived there, they never tried to hike the rent between lease terms as is common with other properties. We had a top floor, lakefront view apartment that was considerably less than other neighboring buildings. Management was not only friendly and personal, but resided within the building as well, enabling them to serve and support their residents with the perspective of a fellow community member. They responded to any issues or concerns we had promptly. Due to their on-site presence, many issues were identified and were actively being rectified without having to notify management ourselves. I couldn't conclude this review, though, without mentioning the neighbors we had while living at The Shorecrest. Of the many apartments and cities in which I have lived (take my word for it, its a lot), I have never had neighbors as welcoming and friendly as we had at The Shorecrest, many of which I still consider good friends to this day. The community feel in this apartment immediately made us feel like we were home, with people getting together for dinner on the front patio, or readily inviting us over for drinks, the family we made while living there added a a rare and valuable aspect to our lifestyle that can't be had with building upgrades or material amenities.

Common amenities include: trash chute, work out room, and suite/lounge area you can rent out. They've tried to keep as much of the history as they can, and there are beautiful staircases that showcase that. The units are extremely quiet neighbor to neighbor, I can tell when the upstairs unit is walking around in heels or moving furniture, but I have never heard a sound from either side. One thing to be mindful of. You are in the heart of Milwaukee's urban downtown. Street noise is a thing if you have windows overlooking Wisconsin or Plankinton (obviously). Sirens, busses, people leaving the riverside. To me it is extremely manageable but some of the neighbors have been bothered by it. Not a negative for me, but something to keep in mind. Lastly, I have to rave about management. I have never lived in a place with such kind and understanding apartment management. However, it was a disaster from the first week on. In spite of this place being seemingly nice, it is the WORST place that I have ever lived, and that includes apartments I rented during graduate school. Mosaic on Oakland is not managed as a luxury apartment should be. There might as well be no management. Noise: For one year I documented ongoing noise from the unit above me with no resolution. This was not walking noise (which is often audible due to the poor construction), but stomping, playing ball, running, etc. They do not enforce the lease or their rules consistently. The noise occurred at all hours and was not standard apartment noise. Garage: The garage stinks, and the garbage room of a restaurant was often left open. After I sent them photos, they said they are working with the restaurant, nothing changed. There was open garbage where we paid a fortune to park our cars. Are rodents are next? Different Rules: My final move out date was hell. The janitor yelled at me and told me "time out" (great way to treat luxury apartment residents) because he said 'shady people' will come in if we open a door. It took a male (my fiancé) to quiet him down and to get him to stop going off on me. Others residents were allowed to open a door when moving out, but I was not. My fiancé had to physically stand at the door for the entire move. One of the moving crew felt uncomfortable because he was being racially profiled as 'letting these shady people in.' The movers told me they hope to never have to deal with Mosaic on Oakland again. Closing: They only refunded me half my security deposit. The apartment was clean (I have photos), but at this point half of my security deposit is a minor waste compared to a year of torture in this overpriced and poorly constructed place. It is a pity because they are occupying a prime space in Shorewood. Even cheap student apartments are run and managed more effectively than Mosaic on Oakland.

The complex is located on Water Street, so as long as It's 60 degrees, you can expect loud music and party boats keeping you from relaxing. Year round, you can expect loud drunks both outside and inside. Homeless people and drunks sleep on the steps of the first-floor units and sometimes get into the game room to sleep there. The last time we were there, a mirror was shattered. They even set fire to the cushions at the pool. There are bullet holes in the building from shootings because it's right on the border of a very bad area. Cars are stolen and broken into on the streets regularly. The pool looks and feels like a spring break nightmare. Good luck if your unit is anywhere near there. The trash room is regularly overflowing. Management's response to everything is, "Well, it's an urban area, what did you expect? We can't help the crime in this area." Because better security measures for the buildings would be too much to ask for. The leasing agents working in the office have attitudes and couldn't care less about their jobs. A girl we know toured here and told us she asked the leasing agents questions, only to get back, "I don't know, I don't live here." The property manager is never on-site and doesn't return calls. You're stuck with the assistant manager, who might be the worst human ever hired. She's rude and aggressive, telling you that you need to scrub every drawer and cabinet of all dog hair when you leave, despite them sending in a cleaning crew anyways. She told us that transferring units was impossible because no one would take the one we had, and we'd have to pay for both. A complex that hires someone so incompetent can't possibly deliver on a luxury or semi-luxury living experience when they can't be bothered to provide even the most basic level of professionalism, and the actual manager is always absent.
