I was disappointed by this place. I'm giving it a 3/5 because my boyfriend liked it more than I did. I've been before and remember loving it, but this just wasn't the vibe. The nice restaurant ambiance is fantastic. Clean. Well decorated. However, the drinks were subpar. (I mean, worst old fashioned I've ever had. The lemon drop martini was just ok.) Our waitress seemed to rush us and didn't take our complaints serious when we mentioned that the drinks were watered down. I got the shrimp and grits. To me, they tasted burned. But maybe that's the French style? It wasn't creamy like I am used to. So, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt there. By BF got the fried catfish. It was good. I was there from out of town to take a family member to an appointment that was approximately an hour away by the time we arrived in Abbeville. We had a great experience. We told the hostess and the manager when we got there that we were pressed for time and if we ate there, would they be able to get us out in about 45 minutes? They accommodated us beautifully and were very kind and understanding about what had happened and while we were in such a hurry. The food was excellent. It was one of the best lunches I've ever had. After spending the day in and around Abbeville we decided to grab a lite dinner before going back to the campground. RiverFront had been on our radar since arriving in town. This is a beautiful restaurant, it appears to be very clean and the atmosphere gives you a sense that it's a little more of an upper end dining experience - after being seated by the hostess we were greeted at our window side table by Owen who would become a very big part of our wonderful dining experience. After taking our drink order he went over a few of the specials and answered all our questions. We looked over the menu choices but we both decided to pick two entree items off the "Lent" Menu that comes with a choice of one side dish. We decided on the seafood gumbo served with white rice, fried catfish and a side of cabbage and tasso we also selected the alligator bites, fried shrimp and a stuffed baked potatoe - the seafood gumbo was really good with its dark roux base and plenty of nice gulf shrimp and oysters and with the perfectly cooked rice served on the side as it should be, the fried catfish was a smaller portion than I expected but delicious and the cabbage and tasso was nothing short of amazing. The fried gator was very tender and seasoned as were the fried shrimp both were great examples of how this should be prepared this was paired with a half stuffed baked potato that fit well with the plate. Owen did a exceptional job through out our dinner service he was attentive and gracious and made sure everything met our expectations. This place was a great choice for dinner and the special menu provided great options and the portions met our expectations as well as a great value. We definitely had a 5 star experience from the welcome to the food, service and live music! The hostess greeted us with a genuine welcome and smile which just sets the tone for the experience. We chose to sit on the screened in patio where we received excellent service from Reese. She let us know the specials and gave us great recommendations along with attentive service throughout our time there. The food is delicious! Everything we ordered came out hot, or cold, timed perfectly and cooked beautifully. We started with the oysters which were tender and tasty along with a cup of French Onion soup which was nice and rich and rustic. For entrees we had the Shrimp & Grits and the pasta with crab cake. The crab cake stole the show, next time I'll get the entree! The grits are thick and hearty and the shrimp is cooked nice and tender and it's all spiced just right. RiverFront is one of the best places to eat it the Abbeville area. Like it's name suggests, it is situated on the west bank of the Vermilion River. The name might also lead you to assume that they have great seafood, and you would be correct there as well! The RiverFront is located in a new spacious facility with both indoor and outdoor seating. The indoors is decorated with charming wooden sculptures of birds, fish, alligators, and more. The waitstaff are friendly and helpful, and will whisk you off to your seating. If you ask for a table in the back, you can watch the River roll by as you dine. The menu includes everything one would expect in Cajun country. You have beautifully stuffed Po-Boys, soups, salads, seafoods, steaks, and Cajun home style favorites. I usually just ask for the special, as it's always great. Most dishes come with two sides of your choice, so you can go hearty or healthy as you wish. Some of my favorite entrees are the crab cakes, seafood trinity, and hamburger streak (I am a simple man). Sorry, however I need to revisit the review prior and leave an update. The food is still excellent, but it seems the staff levels remain constant throughout time periods. Mainly, if you go at peak times of day or weekends, the service definitely suffers. Long waits just for drinks and ongoing apologies for perhaps an hour or more waiting for entrées. I happened to be in Abbeville with one of my sons, when we happened upon this gem. Who would have thought? My favorite restaurant is Social. Although Riverfront Grill I is no Social, the atmosphere is quite inviting and the service rather accommodating. The drinks don't hold a candle to Social's, but were pretty good for most restaurants these days. The first time I went, we tried the fire grilled oysters. These are a different take from the Fezzo's/Drago's/Half Shell grilled oysters. No shell, and cooked with smoked gouda. Pretty tasty. The shrimp and grits looked fantastic, and my son really liked it. I had the crab cakes. They were not as good as Bon Temps, but better than most. I liked the place so much, I took my lady friend there the very next day. read more

Our best meal so far while visiting Lafayette area!! Mom enjoyed her Blueberry Lemonade Martinis while my husband and I shared a bowl of seafood gumbo with a nice roux, fresh shrimp and large crab lumps! Had to be some of the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. We had reservations for our party and wasn't seated until almost 45 minutes later. Once seated, it took almost 20-25 minutes before we even got our drinks. It took quite a while before we were able to order dinner and even then some of our food order was incorrect and members of our party didn't even have their food brought out until much later (oddly enough, a nearby party who was seated after us received one of the dishes that our party had ordered and had not received yet). To cap it off, I had utensils dropped on me as the server was cleaning up, staining my clothing. Our entire experience time at the restaurant was 3+ hours. The only bright spot was the food, as it was actually really good! However based on the service we received I find it very unlikely I will be returning to this establishment. read more

The food is great, however if you order to go make sure you check everything before leaving. I've ordered many times, I get home, and there's a crab cake missing. Even after asking the host multiple times that everything is there. Take the time to pull everything out and look or get home without a crab cake. I'm still bitter about the amount of money I spent on not having those crab cakes. read more

Wow oh wow has Riverfront improved since I was younger and it was in the old building. I would have given it 5 stars if not for the price and the wait. It took us 30+ min to get our food after ordering and it was quite expensive for their dishes. Not out of range for the upscale atmosphere, but I usually stay away from food that expensive. However, there was a lot that went right at our visit. Firstly, our server Blake was AMAZING. Best service we have gotten from any restaurants around here during our family visit. Blake was very attentive, polite, patient, and accommodating. He maintained a pleasant smile and seemed genuine. We all taste tested each other's foods and none of us had a single complaint. All of the food was delicious! I had the grilled chicken with fries and stuffed potato. The grilled chicken was so fudging moist and flavorful I almost died of happiness. The stuffed potato was great but needed just a little seasoning. The shrimp were crisp and yummy. The bread on the poboy and burger were absolute perfection. The burger itself was fantastic for an upscale restaurant. Definitely could compete against Judice Inn. Fries were bomb, too. Very satisfied with our visit. read more

This is an updated review of Riverfront. Since my last three reviews, they have improved freshness and quality. The Friday lunch special is my favorite and includes catfish, seafood jambalaya, a fish cake, and shrimp. The portions are rather large for lunch - almost like a dinner plate - but the price can't beat $11.00 as of the last time we were there which was less than a month ago. I have also had brunch, appetizers, and supper recently. All excellent. Ca c'est bon! The only complaint I have is the kitchen service is spotty. It is not the servers fault when food is slow to come out in this case. However, I would love the servers to be more proactive in telling their customers when the service from the kitchen is going to be slow. Five stars for food, two stars for the spotty kitchen help. The chefs know what they are doing, they just need to kick it up a notch with kitchen help. read more

The hubby & I went for dinner after a pleasant afternoon on the motorcycle... We had looked this place up on Yelp, saw the menu and it sounded yummy. The hostess took 2 fairly large people in a half empty restaurant, put us at a small table in the corner. We couldn't even fit and we were surrounded by empty tables and booths. So we walked over to the next table & sat down... It wobbled so badly our salt & pepper shakers almost hit the floor. The waitress once she arrived did remedy the table issue thank goodness. We started to place our order and my husband didn't order a specific drink & it bothered me she didn't even offer water... Hubby ordered the grilled chicken dinner with a salad & baked potato, I ordered seafood enchiladas with same sides. We got our food & it was not worth the money. You know when you get a baked potato, it's the wrong color and you can smell how old it is? Well our baked potatoes looked and smelled super old.... I tried to doctor it up with butter & sour cream but didn't work. Hubby's meal was $17 and he got 2 of the smallest chicken breasts I've ever seen, Hubby did say they were cooked well and the seasoning tasted good. My enchilada portion was very small & it had no taste... We told the waitress about the potatoes and she laughed & said she would advise the manager, whom we never saw. Went to Riverside with a friend for lunch. We ordered two seafood platters for $19 each. Waitress told us they were out of chicken and sausage gumbo. We asked her if they had seafood gumbo. She said yes. $1.00 extra. They forgot to put our fried crawfish on plate. They brought it out after we finished our meal. They charged us $8.00 extra on bill for two cups of seafood gumbo. Waitress told us seafood platter comes with a cup of seafood gumbo. We told them we did not want salads. We will go back because gumbo and food was really good. Service not that great. Any time we travel we try to find local restaurants that are local owned and not chains. The RiverFront ticked all the checkboxes for us. We got there a we bit after 5pm, there's we're a lot of vehicles in the parking lot so we didn't know what to expect. However, we got greeted immediately by a very friendly hostess. Our waitress (and I'll forever kick myself in the behind for not asking what her name was again) came to our table with 5 minutes (I'd say 3 at most). When she realized we didn't have a drink menu she brought it right away... I could get flowery here because she deserves that.... Our meals where PHENOMENAL. We live in Houston and can get seafood anytime, but we heard this little quant town has it all. Hubby had the Catfish Acadian and I'm pretty sure he said very little during the entire meal. His raised eyebrows and mmmmmmms said it all. I had the grilled Mahi Mahi, and I admittedly did the same as my husband. Wow. Our comments combined relate to both meals. Clean, fresh, tender, delicious. A $$$$$ meal for $$. We had a bottle of wine and the crème brûlée that was the icing on the cake. I've been here a few times and have been pretty pleased with each experience. Today I got the Shrimp Angelo and as a side the stuffed potato. The pasta was pretty good, it had parmesan cheese on top but didn't have much flavor other than cheese. The potato was lukewarm when I got it and had a stale taste and didn't have much flavor. It was topped with melted American cheese and the bottom was fairly burnt. It didn't taste very fresh and I could only get through half of it. We waited over 2 1/2 hours for our meal. They got "backed up" with a wedding (which was catered off-site) and other " large parties". Hands down, it was the longest we have EVER had to wait for a meal. All they did was comp our appetizers and brought us "free bread" after we waited over an hour after our appetizers and no sign of our meal. And we had to ask for the bread - they didn't even offer it to us as we sat there for 2 hours!! Very poorly run kitchen and management. Other tables were in the same boat and some left without even getting their meals. You would have thought They would take something else off our bill but guess they didn't think they needed to.
