The view from the dining room is hard to beat. We were lucky enough to snag a window booth-- with full view of the spectacular sea stacks and brown pelicans. An unusual and (somewhat prehistoric) sight. I was in the Hoh NP and asked the ranger about the Mora unit of Olympic. He recommended this restaurant. It was great. Right on the river with tons of wildlife right out the window. The Brussel sprout Appetizer was one of the best I've had. Super delicious and SUPERB sized. I've spent time in NM and eaten lots of green chili cheeseburgers and this one was excellent. Came here very hopeful....and hungry. The view is amazing, and it is literally the only game in town. I was seated immediately at the bar and given a menu. I sat there for about 20 minutes before I flagged down one of the two servers and asked to order. She apologized and said she thought I'd already been served. I ordered a beer, a Caesar salad, and the fish and chips (I'd asked if the Salmon was fresh, and she laughed softly and said no). I waited another 15 minutes for my beer to arrive. I asked the server to serve my salad first before the fish and chips. Lo and behold, another 15 minutes later and both salad and main course were served simultaneously. Oh well, I was very hungry at this point, and just decided to eat. The fish was good; crispy, flaky and moist. The chips were, almost certainly, store bought crinkle fries that needed to be oven heated.....which they were to an almost luke warm temperature. In addition to being cool, the fries were almost tasteless requiring a significant amount of salt to be edible. Again, as I was hungry, I just ate. Got to my salad, which was acceptable but plain. I had finished my beer early in the meal and a different server was walking around with water, looked at me, and just walked by. As she was passing, I asked if I could have some water.....which arrived in about 5 more minutes. Wish I could say better things about this place, but both the service and the food (aside from the fish) were really subpar. The one truly positive note is that the meal ended just in time for me to head over to the beach and take some epic photos of the sea stacks at sunset. Thanks Mother Nature! read more

First, the setting was lovely right next to the water! We watched sea lions and birds during lunch. The food was great! Good value and well prepared. We tried and loved the Brussels sprouts, fried pickles, soup, salmon and club sandwich! the best part was the staff! everyone was friendly, happy and attentive (without being annoying)! so happy that we stopped after exploring the nearby beaches! We had visited this restaurant before a few years ago and remember it was very good. This time not a great experience. Ordered a Caesar salad and the menu said protein option without prices so we got shrimp and they upcharged us for shrimp without explaining beforehand. Also ordered a fish and chips and there was hardly any fish it was basically a chunk of fried beer batter. We ordered 2 beers which came in cans, we assumed they would be on tap. 6$ each for a 12oz can of Georgetown Bodhi and pFriem pils. The view was good and the restaurant was pleasant but the food was not good. I will not recommend this restaurant and I will not be returning. read more

The food was pretty good, and the establishment was beautiful and clean. The hostesses and waitress were super friendly. Although they had a kids menu, the items weren't kid friendly enough for our autistic daughters who have texture sensitivities. We ended up paying for the smash burger off the main menu and asked for it to just be a plain burger but ended up still coming out with the fixings (cheese and sauce). Despite mixed reviews, personally I really like this place. The staff were very accommodating and very nice. I called ahead to ask for a window table and we got one when we got there. Stopped by for lunch today and was not disappointed. Had to get a cup of chowda and since it's "vacation," went with the deep fried Captain's Platter. The chowder was super good and creamy with lots of bits of clam that were far from rubbery. The platter was so good! Think bar food but imagine well cooked, fresh seafood, with great tartar and cocktail sauce. Seriously, every piece of seafood was cooked just right! Not a single rubbery piece. We have always loved this place. The staff here really loves to feed you and the portions prove it. Some of our favorites are the calamari. So delicious and such a great deal with generous portions. Next favorite is the Brussle sprouts. Again huge portions and I describe this as " a party in your mouth" . I could eat this everyday as the unique recipe is bursting with flavors. It's been a few years since we have stayed in La Push and we are enjoying our visit so much! We were looking forward to eating at River's Edge remembering how much we've enjoyed it in the past but the recent reviews did not look very good. We decided to give it a go based on our previous experiences and I'm so glad we did. There is a new chef and a new menu. Everything we had was delicious! The salmon dip was perfect and the seafood chowder was so creamy and came with a skewer of delicious grilled shrimp and fry bread. The dining room was clean and very tidy. The staff was just as friendly as before. The recent reviews suggest they needed to make some changes and I am happy to report they've done it very well. read more

I come to visit family every year and this year I brought a friend to stay the week with me because it was her birthday. I have taken others to this Hidden Gem before and always had wonderful food and great service, until yesterday 11/1/2024. 05:45pm. When we arrived there was only one other couple in the place and it seemed quiet, we were sat next to the window and had a stunning view. We ordered drinks and appetizers and while trying to read the menu we noticed that the people in the kitchen were starting to get pretty loud. The F word was being thrown around pretty liberally and they were obviously goofing around. We let it go cause everyone gets antsy when there aren't any customers we get that. So we order and then another couple comes in and then a family with kids. The people in the back didn't stop cussing and hollering. We waited and waited for our food and then the waitress came to tell us they didn't have halibut only salmon and no other seafood, so we weren't happy but we just dropped that order. Finally we thought our order was coming and the waitress took it to another table that had arrived after us. Then took the chicken sandwich I ordered, away from the table after he had set it down on the other table when they said it wasn't theirs, took it in the back and brought it right out to me. Then the rest of our order kind of trickled in. I never did get the clam chowder I ordered and the chicken was so badly over fried it was very very dark and tasted burnt, the meat in the middle was so thin and dried up it was hard to bite into. The salad came with no dressing and none was offered, in fact when we asked for dressing the first server said they did not have any dressing at all, the second server we ask hot us some dressing. We had the sweet potatoe fries and those were a very dark almost black color as well. The whole meal was terrible. I had talked this restaurant up to my friend and we drove all the way from our cabin in Neah Bay which is an hour and a half to be treated with foul mouthed, rowdy loud kitchen staff and served horrible food and service. I was so embarrassed for them, (the servers and the restaurant). There isn't any good seafood places or restraunts that serve seafood in November around these parts except for Rivers Edge, I thought, now I know that there aren't any at all. I'm so disappointed to pay those prices for such terrible service and food. Needless to say I won't ever be coming back or recommending this place again. read more

Really cool view! Even with the fog rolling in, the view out from the coast constantly change as the wind influences the visibility. There's not many choices in this area, so many people opt for this restaurant. We only ordered the clam chowder and fish and chips, but they were pretty solid! The clam chowder was thick and full of ingredients, came out piping hot, perfect against the winds and grey skies. It's hard to mess up fish and chips, so I would say they were just about average. They seemed short staffed, so food came out slowly, but we weren't in a hurry so it was fine! I would advise everyone to be understanding about the slow service since it really seemed like hardly anybody was working there and the remaining staff were trying their best! read more

So glad this restaurant was opened, as our receptionist at our lodging told us they work on "flexible" hours. So if things are a little slow, they would close shop! Consider we were kind of at the end of earth, menu options are not too bad! I did ask what kind of salmon is it, and the sweet staff said "Alaskan" after consulting with the chef, which didn't answer my question. I can tell you it is sockeye, not king salmon. read more

This was really disappointing. We arrived this evening for dinner and were promptly seated with at a table with a great view. The restaurant was clearly busy with a Friday dinner rush and we had no problem with the lengthy wait for a server to come by to take our order. Once they did, we ordered one seafood pasta and one seared scallop dinner. Over an hour after we were seated our server stopped by the table to inform us the ticket for our order hadn't been placed. Less than ideal but things happen and we were willing to wait the extra time instead of driving to get dinner in nearby Forks. A couple seated not long after us were having the same experience but were done feeling ignored and walked out. We continued to patiently wait before leaving our table to find someone to ask about our order. We were assured that our food was on it's way. But after spending two hours in the restaurant and watching more recently seated groups receive their orders we left without receiving ours. Busyness was definitely a factor in our regrettable experience but it seemed like the restaurant was very disorganized. Servers had no discernable sections and rushed around chaotically to tables scattered around the dining room and patio. Overall our experience here was determined largely by the luck/misfortune of the server assigned to us. Our server didn't bother to stop at our table except to take a food order and inform us that our order hadn't been placed. Otherwise the server seemed to be tucked away at the waitstation while other servers made several trips to surrounding tables. We honestly would have waited for our food a bit longer if the server had bothered to offer to take a drink order, or offered an order of something that was within their ability to bring us without needing to rely on kitchen staff (soup, bread, etc.). Anything to give us the sense that dinner would indeed arrive would have helped. Instead, it was a missed opportunity. My mom, who I was with, has visited this restaurant on a few trips out to the coast and has only ever had good experiences here. We had planned to have a few meals here this weekend but it's unlikely we'll return. read more

We ordered: - Seafood louie, which had iceberg lettuce, little bay shrimp which seem like the type that are frozen, crab (seemed like it came out of a can), and smoked salmon. Even though it was a pretty basic dish, it was good. - Grilled Alaskan salmon. Came out pretty overcooked. Not great because the fish was dry. - Fish and chips with cod. This was good. Fries were crispy. Fish was very fresh. - Marion berry cobbler, which was delicious. Loved the touch of cinnamon in the topping. Service was friendly. View was nice. Bathrooms were clean. We went here with pretty low expectations from this review site but were hungry and wanted the views. We were pretty taken aback by how great it really was. The service was 5 star, we were seated at the side without a view and they moved us after they had taken our order to the best seats in the house the moment another group left. Rosa was our server and she was fantastic. Very cheerful and the playful banter between her and the other servers was very entertaining. During our meal we even had 2 otters come up the old boat launch and play around outside the window. Very cute. The chowder was some of the best had and we recommend it. Also recommend the pineapple and passion fruit cider that wasn't on the menu but suggested to us. What a beautiful area of the world and we will be back! read more

I've been to First Beach many times. I've always driven by this restaurant thinking it must be expensive because it's right on the water. On my last trip, my family and I decided to stop by before the next leg of our adventure. I'm glad we did. There was plenty of parking right outside the front door. The service was quick and friendly. I'm from a small town and it had a sense of familiarity. The restaurant wasn't too busy so we got a window table next to the water. The food is simple but well done. My son had hot chocolate, a plain cheese burger, and fries. He's picky about hot chocolate but this went down quick (always a good sign). I had a salmon burger. It was a nice cut, served on a soft bun, and seasoned well. I know it sounds simple but I was very disappointed at many places I've eaten at in La Push, Port Angeles, and a number of place in between. I was happy with our experience here. The garlic fries were served crisp and had just enough garlic to pack a punch. We shared a bowl of chowder that decent and had great texture! I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner and will definitely return in the future. My son is a huge fan of First Beach so I'm sure we'll get another chance to visit soon! read more
