A great waterfront restaurant with excellent service While visiting the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, we asked one of the ladies working in the gift shop where she would recommend for lunch. Without hesitation, she suggested the Riverside Cafe in Vero Beach, and we are certainly glad she did. The Riverside Cafe has been serving locals and visitors since 1986 and is located on the south side of State Road 60 just before crossing the bridge. In fact it is right below the bridge on the river. It has become something of a local institution, known for its waterfront dining, seafood, and relaxed atmosphere. There was plenty of parking available when we arrived, some even under the shade of the bridge. We entered and were greeted by a friendly hostess who quickly seated us. We chose to sit outside along the Indian River Lagoon, which provided a beautiful view during our meal. The menu has a good selection of seafood, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and other American favorites. I ordered the French Dip with fries, while my wife selected the fish and chips. My sandwich was excellent, and my wife enjoyed her meal so much that the portions were large enough for her to bring part of it home. What really made the visit memorable, however, was our waitress, Meghan. She was absolutely outstanding, the kind of server who is always two steps ahead, bringing drink refills before we even realized we needed them and checking on us just enough without ever becoming intrusive. Our total for two full meals and drinks came to about $50, which we thought was very reasonable considering the quality of the food, the generous portions, the beautiful waterfront setting, and the exceptional service. Overall, this was an excellent eating experience and one that exceeded our expectations. It definitely felt like one of those places the locals know about, and after our visit, it's easy to understand why. This place is usually our go to. We went last Wednesday. The service was good, food not so good. My husband ordered a fish taco and a fish sandwich came out instead. The waitress took full responsibility for the mistake and returned to the kitchen with it. A bit later a piece of fish on a tortilla arrived. Just fish on a tortilla, no lettuce, no avocado or any sauce. We were given a free piece of Keylime pie to amend for the food but if this was our first visit I doubt we would be going back. We've lived in Vero over five years and are always looking for a new place to go. Riverside café Sounded like the place to go. Sorry guys not after reading the reviews. Sounds like a real dive, and I don't wanna get sick and I don't wanna watch pornography while I'm there. Also I love music but not loud loud loud music, not while I've come for dinner. Maybe a partying night out. You should be able to talk at a table. Sounds like you have a lot of frozen food, and subpar service. Maybe I'd come for a beer, a BOTTLE of beer. I do not want to get sick. That's awful. Sounds like you need to pair down the menu and get more fresh items.. It also sounds like you need chef Ramsey in there to get you guys in order. read more

Enjoyed this meal with friends in Vero Beach! The decor is beach themed & walls display hilarious fish art painted by locals. Gotta give high praise to our terrific server Marianna. She made great recommendations, & checked on our table often even though her station was crazy busy. Wife & I split the calamari. It was lightly breaded & not oily or greasy as you find in some places. Both entrees had a side of their home made potato salad which was super fresh. Wife had the grilled fish wrap & loved it. I had the Crabby Pig, a fried soft shell crab on pork belly sandwich. I have to say this was the only thing I really didn't enjoy. The breading was way too heavy and hid the taste of the crab. Will go back next time we're in Vero beach, but would love to see more grilled fish options on the menu. read more

However last week I ordered a 'Lobster Roll' only to find out it was Krab-a cheap replacement for fish, mixed with purple onion. I found no lobster! Started my meal at Riverside Cafe with the bang bang shrimp, they were perfectly crispy! Then I had the fish and chips, and wow, the breading was well seasoned, crispy and light, and the fish was tender and flaky. I also tried the crab pig sandwich, which was tasty, and satisfied my crab cravings. The whole experience had a great customer service and beachy vibe that made the meal even better. Great local cafe. A bit tricky to find as it is behind rental shop and looks like there's just another building. There's main room, bar area with music and outdoor sitting by the water. We've got there around 4pm and the place was pretty busy and got even busier later on. Our server was very nice and quick. We've got clam chowders, onion rings and fish and chips. Everything was very tasty. We also tried key lime pie and crème brûlée which I don't recommend as they were not the proper ones. I do take my desserts very seriously. While staying at Disney's Vero Beach resort we went to Riverside Cafe and were so happy we did. From the minute we walked in the hostess was super nice and showed us to an outside covered table on the river. The food and service was fantastic. If we lived closer this could be our regular place. We ordered the fish and chips; it was good but the fries weren't cooked with fresh oil and they were luke warm, not hot; like they had been sitting awhile. I hate that. The food was amazing and fresh with live music on the gigantic covered patio with lots of fans for hot days paired with a water view it's safe to say this is a hidden gem. You can pull your boat up or park your car and if you choose not to sit outside they have inside seating also. The chicken Parmesan sandwhich was incredible with a great sauce and cheese ratio on a fresh garlic brioche style bun! Beers and drinks are also very reasonably price with drafts starting at 4$. Food was mediocre at best .. peel and eat shrimp only thing that was good Service .. so horrible that we nearly walked out .. 30 min wait for table (not a issue as it was busy) Took over 15 min for our server Janice to come to table .. never ask us for drinks .. started to place our order for the shrimp app which we wanted with meal but she took off so fast that i didn't get to say another word .. they have food runners who after 20 plus min dropped the shrimp and left .. still our waitress never came to our table to see if we needed anything or take our dinner order .. finally asked another waitress for hot sauce to go with our shrimp .. and to find our waitress .. done with shrimp .. still no waitress .. had to go to hostess stand to ask for waters and to find our waitress .. another 10 min before she showed .. i tried to explain that she took off too fast and that we wanted our shrimp with our meal but too late hopefully she would pay more attention .. ABIG fat NO .. hubby salad came out .. litterly tossed it in the table and gone again .. which were to share but i guess we were to eat with our hands as we had no silverware .. and about a teaspoon of dressing .. again back to hosset stand to ask for silverware and a manager .. she passes a few times but so fast that there was no catching her .. finally she stopped by to say our dinners would be out shortly .. told her that we needed more dressing as the container was nearly empty when it was served .. now after that it's another 30 min still no dinners .. again to hostess stand to again get a manager as we wanted to just leave .. been there at the table for over 2 hrs and no main course while other tables who sat after us were already done .. manager came just after our dinner was served but without the extras we requested .. we explained to him the issues Steven was very understanding and said he would adjust the bill .. that wasn't what i was looking for i merely wanted him to know how bad it was .. i at this point lost my appetite .. hubby ate his steak and my burger .. she finally showed up again we asked for bill .. and container for his fries and veggies .. she proceeded to try to take our plates why .. she brought boxes to other tables .. i pulled them back and said i would do it .. dropped a small box and gone again .. another 30 min and we got up to go to hostess stand to pay our bill .. at this point we had spoked to three hosts snd a manager .. took another 10 min for our bill at this point i couldn't even look at her .. Steven did take off our shrimp app and another 7.50 totally 28.50 credits i paid cash and left nothing for a tip for her . This hidden gem was a great way to start our week in Vero. The bang bang shrimp were HUGE. The portion sizes were good in general. The wait wasn't massive but waiting area was difficult. If you are in the Vero Beach area I recommend checking out this place. With beautiful views of the Indian River it's such a great place to sit with friends. We sat outside. While it was a little warm it was well worth it. The views were beautiful. We had one of the best waitresses I have ever encountered. I wish I could remember her name for a shout out because she was amazing in every way. The food was great. Hush puppies were awesome. If you like hush puppies you will like these. Between our group we had grilled flounder, chicken parmesan sandwich, and the kickin chicken sandwich. It wasn't kickin in the manner of heat - just that it's very good! They had the best children's menu I have ever seen. For example, they had the I DONT KNOW Chicken tenders and fries I DONT CARE Kids burger and fries I DON'T WANT THAT Grilled cheese and fries I'M SO HUNGRY Kraft Mac and cheese and I'M NOT HUNGRY Pasta with marinara or butter and parmesan cheese.
