As a visitor, I was delighted to find this park on the Upper West Side. It is full of walkable paths and lots of trees. I love seeing all of the people, dogs, and children basking in this peaceful setting. It is a balm for a bustling world. read more

While nearly all park-related space in Manhattan is a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, Riverside Park stands out even more so because it doesn't draw the massive crowds that other parks (Central Park & Bryant Park) do. Riverside Park has outdoor options for everyone: There's a fantastic walking/running/biking trail that runs all the way from the bottom of the park to the top (I've taken it from 54th St. to 125th St. and believe it still continues both ways), there are flower gardens, there are clay tennis courts, there are baseball/softball fields, there are playgrounds and swing sets and parkour courses, there are soccer fields and basketball courts. But even if you just want to relax, there are lawn spaces and benches to lounge on, plus a fantastic boardwalk near the pier on 72nd St. that has an outdoor cafe. Really hope this park doesn't get overcrowded, but it's my favorite one in the city. read more

A long park along the Hudson River that's a great place for anyone such as bicyclists. It has a lot of good views of the river and it's pretty clean. Riverside Park is filled with lots of things to do and see. Mostly safe and there's usually people out. The bathrooms are clean too. It stretches a long way and it goes past lots of historical attractions. Mostly the park is a long bicycle trail with greenery along it. The park starts at about 72nd Street and ends at about 129th Street. Along the way there's lots of historic places to stop and look at. Grant's Tomb is the best known. There's also a few other memorials and statues. Along the river is the bicycle trail that most people use to get through here. It also has an upper path. There's amenities like basketball and tennis courts as well. read more

This is my favorite park in NYC. I prefer it over Central Park. It's more family friendly. While we were here today, we saw kids playing soccer, people sunbathing and picnicking. There is a path called Cherry Walk. It is supposed to be between west 100 street and west 125 street. However, I didn't see it. I will be back to find it. read more

Riverside park is so nice. It's always so clean with beautiful flower-lined paths. It's a great place to meet up with friends or people watch. Individuals can be seen bike riding, roller blading, and walking their dogs (there are plenty of dog parks within the park as well). There's usually ample parking on Riverside Drive too. read more

Very quiet park away from the tourists of Central Park. I enjoyed running up and down this area during my stay here. It's lined with activities like playgrounds, skate parks, and gardens. What a beautiful park! I can't believe that, in my time in NYC, I never made the time to come to this park. Situated along the western boundary of Manhattan, this long and thin park runs tens of blocks. My buddy and I started walking it from the 110s, made it down to the 70s, and back up. This was about a 4 mile walk. And in that time, I saw plenty of healthy fitness-minded people walking, running, and biking. I was also glad to see that everyone was wearing a mask and abiding by pandemic restrictions. The trails run long, and many sit under a canopy of tall trees. Lighting is so-so in the evening time, but there were plenty of people around going into the late evening. The sights were great along the entire stretch, especially as the evening set in. It was great getting some exercise after a long plane ride from the west coast. And this exercise gave me plenty of energy to square things away and get back to LA the next day. This place is definitely a gem. Once I'm back in NYC this fall, I will definitely make time to come here more often. read more

After all the years I have lived in NYC this was the first time visiting Riverside Park. I was here running in the Frozen Penguin 5K race on 3/13/16. The park was a perfect setting with great views of the Hudson River along the route. Plenty of trails, dog runs, areas to hike, play sports, have a picnic, or just relax and chill out. It's a huge park with a lot to do and see. Biking, running, walking or whatever you like to do to get your fitness on this is a good spot for it all. Grant's Tomb is close by too along with some other plaques, monuments, statues, etc. Overall, seems like a great park that is clean and well maintained. Must come back here in the summer when everything is in bloom and green again. read more

This is a cool park. I like it because it is the "bridge" between UWS and Hudson River Park. The promenade on the lower part of the park is cool. In season, there are numerous landscaped areas and the flowers are pretty. You have great views of the river and plenty of trees for shade if you want to get out of the sun. There are also paths that easily get you down to the Hudson River Park or the 79th St Boat Basin. This park connects you to the best of New York and looks good while doing it. read more

In accord with previous reviewers about Riverside Park, although I admit this park is scenic and hosts amazing views of the Hudson River adjacent to West Side Highway. Yet, I'm a native New Yorker and one cannot remove my passion and immense interest for Frederic Olmstead's envision of Central Park! To me, Riverside Park is like a long narrow piece of noodle for size and shape, which best resembles the Latin American country--Chile. A quaint oasis snuggled along the Upper West Side. This park is relatively clean and has ample seating for park patrons to ponder or go one with the mind, body and spirit in achieving inner peace. read more

I'm not sure where Riverside Park ends and Hudson River Park begins. I do know it is a great walk on a summer day. For all I know the two names are the same park!! It is a long hike from up town all the way down toward the World Trade Center!! I packed water, snacks, and camera to hike that day. Along my way I found a great place dedicated to Eleanor Roosevelt. The plaque said her first name was Anna. I found that interesting. I posted a picture of the plaque. I'm not sure if it is easy to read. You'll need to go search out the area and find her statue like I did. That's part of the fun of exploring our city parks!! I'm sure people that live in the neighborhood know where it is though. I love Riverside Park. It is so nice to be able to walk down to a park where you could find waterside views. You don't get that often in an urban setting. It has a lot of benches where you could sit down and just look at the water. However, on a nice sunny day, the benches get full quickly. Also I remembers seeing a basketball court here. Lots of people walk their dogs here too, just be aware of dog poop. Come visit! read more

Riverside Park is a long stretch of well-maintained land that sort of has the geometry of an archipelago. An oasis for those of us in Upper Manhattan, Riverside Park is large, clean and has many amenities including NYC sponsored events, dog parks, running track, bike path and other fun events in the summer like free big screen movies, karaoke and more! The staff that keeps the park up brings their a-game, seeing trash on the ground is a rare sight and they actually greet people and talk to you! At least in my neck of the woods by 145. At least one of them is clearly an animal lover and always has biscuits in her pocket to give to the troves of pups that patrol this area. Devoid of tourists and large crowds, yet plenty enough people around to ensure safety. You'd be hard pressed to find a better park in NYC. read more

I'm preparing for an outdoor production of Much Ado About Nothing right now, and this is where we rehearse in the evenings. As I walked back through the park one night after rehearsal, a cool breeze off the Hudson blowing in my face, fireflies flickering on the lawn, and cute boys jogging along the river, I thought, "God, New York is beautiful." Beautiful views and peaceful strolls can be found here. It's also like a little hidden gem if you've only been visiting Central Park and you switch it up to Riverside. I first visited while searching for the holy grail: the garden where Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan meet at the end of "You've Got Mail." It's a beatuiful SMALL park (compare to the Central Park). My friend and I came here because she wanted to see where the movie You've got mail shot. I love Meg Ryan so I was very excited to visit here. They shot the last scene here in the movie. When we found our target, we were VERY disappointed. The wonderful small garden in the movie looked like a grassland in Africa. At the time I could hear my Meg Ryan in my dream is broken... This kind of things happen a lot in New York. Everything I saw on TV or movie is totally different from I thought. The Soldiers and Sailors Monument is one of my favorite spots in the world (no joke). It's an absolutely beautiful and quiet spot to waste away a morning. It's a completely different vibe from Central Park (which I absolutely love as well)...Riverside Park is definitely a more "neighborhood" park. This is a great park. Very long, starts around 72nd and goes into the 100's on the West Side, its a great place for running or cycling. There's a lot of activity here. Flower beds by both the city and the local community. The local ones are really interesting some years. There are a few sets of basketball courts, where you can see some cool (and seriously competitive) pickup games at times. A few playgrounds throughout the length of this park as well. Theres a path that runs the length of the river, and its gets wider in parts of this park. I use this park for walking, cycling and on occasion dog walking. Its terrific that way. Nice views of NJ, oftentimes boats on the water (fro the 72nd street boat basin perhaps). Benches throughout to sit and read a book or watch the river flow by. NYC parks get better every year. Lets hope the new mayor keeps that trend up. read more

I recently moved to the area and love Riverside Park even more than the East River Park when I lived closer to that part of town. It's clean, it's got beautiful views of New Jersey, the Hudson, and overall West side of town. The pathways are well-kept and the grass is never filled with litter - they do a really good job keeping up with the park here. Whether you're biking, running, walking, or just chilling, Riverside Park has it all. You can even kayak for free! There's various restaurants along the way as well. So many good things to say about this stretch of park - although I still wouldn't find myself here too long when the sun goes down, especially in the darker parts further in towards the road. Go during sunset! It's the best! read more

What a beautiful park! Gotta love the changing leaves in the fall! You can go down the path for a nice, romantic stroll-I think it looks lovelier than the promenade, actually. Climb on top of the ledge for a nice photo opp, and throw some leaves in the air to make it look like the movies. On your path you'll see several cute playgrounds-with seesaws, a big red cased swing (I tried it, it's mostly for kids but it worked out), elephant seats, slides, and a very interesting sand castle-like sand pit. There's also a huge basketball court we walked by, where we saw families bonding over shooting hoops (super cute!). Gotta love mother nature, WORD. read more

Nice views of the Hudson river. The main path of the park along the river's edge has so many runners and cyclists that it detracts from the experience, but it's romantic none the less. I took the (2) train to 96th St and walked down the park to 72nd St. Great views! It was hard to see walking south with the sun setting. read more

I come to Riverside Park almost every day. If not for my morning runs along the Hudson River, then it's for my evening walks. Sometimes, I come here during the middle of the day, to just have some "me time." What I appreciate most about the park is that it has its own personality. It's not as grand as Central Park, but Riverside park is quaint yet you sort of get to escape, nonetheless. The other day, I fell asleep on one of the benches. When I woke up, the guy next to me was laughing because apparently, I had been snoring. Yeah, that's how worn out I've been these days. Even writing this review, my eyes are heavy and all I want to do is sleep. But, I promised myself that I would try to review all the places I've been to, so that I don't forget, even if it hurts to just type. I'm spent. That's one of the main reasons, I come here regularly. Nobody is ever here at night and it is the most beautiful park in the city. My favorite book, Pnin by Vladimir Nabokov, talks about the surreal and ethereal beauty of the park (very briefly) and I have to say, I'm bewitched. Once in a while you'll hear an obnoxiously loud motorcycle whizzing by but other than that it's perfect. The flowers are in full bloom and select sections have the most intoxicating scent of sea-breeze and lilacs. When I walked past the Peter Stuyvesant building I thought I was in Monte Carlo. Then, all of the sudden, I see an enormous statue of a Sholin monk in front of a Japanese Buddistry. It was tucked away--- so magnificent and strange I was left breathless. Just a little above it is an empty Gothic house. Scary as fuck, my friend and I joked lightly about it to make the creepies go away but I'm still frightened. Romance! Culture! Beauty! Horror! Humor. One of the best places in the world. read more

*This review is of the softball fields in Riverside Park between 104th and 107th Streets* Surprisingly, it's very quiet up here, even with the close proximity to the Henry Hudson Parkway. On a lovely spring day it's nice for a stroll. The plots of flowers are quite pretty, bleeding hearts, tulips, daffodils, etc. I like to stop at the dog run and watch the pooches on my way to the field. The view across the Hudson River is also very calming and peaceful. There are four fields between 104th and 107th Streets. They are all* Astroturf-like material. I say "like" because the cushioning under the "grass" is comprised of recycled tires. Fields 6 & 7 also double as soccer fields for local high schools and pick up games of soccer**. You can wear softball cleats on the fields, well, at least me and my teammates wore them with no problems (there are no signs posted stating the contrary). Our ump also said that it's (field 7, where I played) a good field on which to slide. (Now, normally no one should slide on a turf surface, unless you want to injure yourself [hello, knees!]). Though, no one actually believed him, so no one slid. If you have a game up here, the walk through the park makes up for the long subway ride...back from whence you came. Oh, and hey, Koronet Pizza is right near the 1/9 subway at 110th Street. Score! And, as usual, you need a permit to play on these fields. (Though, the Riverside Park website says if you're under 18 you don't need one.) *Fields 6, 7 are all turf, while 4 and 5 have dirt infields. **You might have to contend with them if you're playing on back to back fields. read more

This is a very large park with a playground but also a bunch of paths that are good for biking and hiking. There are statues and some art installations that are awesome. Grant's Tomb is on the premises, and they have these awesome mosaic benches. There is also the smallest fenced cemetery in the country, with one tombstone. It's west of the main road, on the side. Like Rodney Dangerfield, Riverside Park gets no respect. It probably has a bit to do with the fact that much like Ashley Simpson, Brent Gretzky, and numerous Baldwin Brothers, Riverside Park lives in the constant shadow of one much more famous. (Central Park). It probably has a bit to do with the fact that it's convenient only for those of us who live on the west side. Whatever the reason, it's a shame. Riverside Park is my "go to" park on the weekends when I dont want to brave the Central Park crowds. It is cool on a hot summer day due to it's close proximity to the Hudson River. There are several dog parks and numberous softball fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, and the like. It's a fantastic and scenic place to have a little whiffle ball game with cruise ships and the Hudson for a backdrop. And one of my favorite bars in all of Manhattan (79th Street Boat Basin) is in Riverside Park as well. The Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument is here as well (recently refurbished) at 89th street, and is certainly worth seeing if you're a civil war buff. Lastly, if you've seen the uber-chick flick, "You've Got Mail", the ending "tear-jerking" (and sappy) final scene was filmed here at the garden at 91st street. Riverside Park may get "no respect" in general, but it has earned plenty of mine. read more

Riverside Park is one of the best parks in the city, it's also one of the largest and cleanest. The park stretches from 72nd street to about 129th st and from Riverside Drive to the Hudson river. The park has almost everything you could ever want from a park: a paved bike path, gardens, fields, dog runs, lots of benches, small fields, playgrounds, all with being very well maintained. It's a really safe nice park to hang out in whether you're reading, people watching, or taking the NYC greenway bike path which goes along the entire west side of Manhattan. The park is also home to a beautiful Civil War memorial by 89th street and General Grant's Tomb around 122nd st. I can't imagine anyone not loving this park. read more

Have waited a few weeks to review to make sure that nothing ruined my great first impression and all subsequent visits only CONFIRMED my original impression. This park is very very VERY nice. I live on W122nd and Broadway so it's a block or two and I'm right there. I go there for jogging/walking, but plan to go to take pictures as soon as I can get a new camera because it's got some GORGEOUS scenes. The uptown part of the park, closer to my place, is good for jogging. There are like 3 paths you can take to walk/jog...one wide path thats on the street (this is where you'll find a lot of the small gated playgrounds and benches), a path between the river and the street that's a level down which is the hilliest. This path trails through trees and flowers and is quieter and more practical for those looking to get a little cardio in. The final path is the one that tracks the Hudson River and this path gets BEAUTIFUL as you take it downtown. My jog takes me down to 82nd street and as you get into that area you come upon many gardens that are very very pretty, as well as a beautiful view of the river with plenty of benches and trees for a relaxing rest in the shade. This park is so CLEAN and has so much beautiful nature in it--waterfront, gorgeous big trees and flowers--but it's biggest acclaim is that it caters to everyone. There are TONS of parks for kids from toddlers to grade school kids, not to mention the soccer field, basket ball courts, and baseball diamond for whoevers up for a game. Great for dogwalkers as well as runners and joggers, and tons of spots for relaxation, reading or meditation. Best part, it's never over crowded. You never feel cramped here and I am so glad it's right down the street. YAY. read more

- NYC does a great job with its waterfronts. This park is no exception. - Sunset. It's not as glorious here as down by the Brooklyn Bridge waterfront, but, it's pretty darn nice. The Fort Lee skyline isn't much, but just sit back, relax, and imagine the smell of all that Korean fried chicken. - If you're about to comment on how grey and murky the Hudson looks, stop. Come back here on a sunny day with a blue sky, and the Hudson will look damn near Photoshopped, it'll be so blue. - Riverside Park technically extends only from 72nd to 125th, and Riverside Park South is the extension going down to the 50s. #facts - If you want to eat or drink, I like Pier i Cafe (~70th St) better than the Boat Basin (~80th St). It's more casual and open and relaxed, which I think is probably a good thing in places where a large percentage of the patrons wear rubber shoes.* *says the guy who wears flip-flips a third of the year. read more
