Your opinion of any antique store is going to depend a lot on your interests - Riverview Antiques has probably the best offering in the city for high quality antiques and vintage decorative arts. There is lots of furniture - mostly Victorian, late 19th century French, Asian and mid-century. Tons of artwork too - mostly original oils or sketches but some prints. Hands down, the largest and best selection of higher end decorative items in the area - porcelain, statues, etc. Price tags are commensurate with the quality - most items are upwards of $100 but there are certainly good deals to be had if you know what to look for. I scored a great, framed vintage French advertising poster for $39. What I really like about Riverview is that there's almost no "junk" - no McDonalds collector glasses, old Christmas ornaments or rows of Depression glass. If you're looking for an old Pabst sign for your basement bar area, this isn't the place. If you've got some money to spend and you want great selection and quality, Riverview is your place! read more

Do they have great stuff? Sure! In abundance? You bet! IS IT PRICED WAY OUT OF THE BALLPARK?? OH MY GOD YES. I was literally laughing out loud. I'm not a proclaimed expert, but I stop at every antique mall and store I can. My house has very little new furniture. My dining room is all Heywood-Wakefield. So, I see a booth in there that has Hey-Wake and I'm almost screaming. They have the small china cabinet, worth about $400 in today's market and it's priced at $1500--and it's not even in mint condition! They also had a vanity in fair condition that they actually priced at $2200! I couldn't get my jaw off the floor when I saw that! In today's market, MAYBE, it might fetch around $600 in MINT condition. Everything in there was about 3-4 times what it should've cost in any other metropolitan area--and this is only Milwaukee, for Christ's sake! Need I say more???? read more

old stuff is really cool. it's just so...old. I should admit that i'm not an old stuff expert, (i've noticed in other reviews of this place people have delineated its niche by location and century specialization; you won't find anything other than my classification of "old" here) but i have made my way around to most of the antique shops in milwaukee by now. this is my absolute favorite. here. is. why. the guys that are here are just the best. the young curly haired guy drove my stuff to my house for me in his pickup truck. the older italian guy remembered me from a visit six months prior because he said he always remembers a kind face. yeah, i get it, they're guys, but they're really nice guys. i bet they'd be nice to you, too. if you have a kind face. on more than one occasion they have dialed the phone numbers of the owners of certain things i was interested in - sure, one was a couch for $2,100 that i was not going to buy, but one time it was something tiny, like an ashtray, or, like, a stick of gum, and they still called the owner to let me bargain. they just handed me the phone and i was like, "hey, this stick of gum is not worth this." most times, people are reasonable and are willing to negotiate. i just love the nonchalance. i even love the word nonchalance. oh - one more thing. they have treats. like lollipops and sugar cookies, by the register. and they are free. and they're not only for kids, no way. i eat them. go buy some old stuff and make sure you love old people, too. read more

An interesting antique store with more furniture and some other items you don't always see a wide selection of, like mid-century luggage, and 1960s "modern" decor. I don't think the prices are inflated, they seem to be in line with what they have, I found an 19th century opium pipe as a gift for a historian friend of mine who is interested in that sort of thing, he thought it was fairly priced. Still, more of what they have here is higher end than cheap, but it's a fairly big place that is fun to explore. read more

We recently visited the Riverside Antique Market twice on our vacation while in Milwaukee. We found the quality of merchandise impressive and the selection diverse. From vintage oil paintings, arts and crafts pottery, vintage clothing to nice Mid Century furniture by Paul McCobb and tons of mod accessories. There was also of furniture and old advertising pieces not often seen. We must finish by saying the service we received upon making our purchase was some of the best service we've ever had at an antique shop. We highly recommend this antique shop to any visitors coming to the area. Easy street parking. read more

i'm used to finding bric-a-brac and dishes for under $25 when i visit antique stores. this is not the case here and i felt the prices for some of these items were inflated. however, riverview is able to get away with this bc of the selection. it is obvious much discretion has been used when selecting what pieces are sold here. there is not much junk. there are huge offerings of mid-century furnishings and art. ecclectic, refined, intentional. we came away with a beautiful danish design coffee table. the owners (i presume) were gracious and helpful. the importance of the purchase to us was not lost on them. read more

Four stars for the amazing circus sideshow banners hanging from the ceiling (not for sale) and unique asian artifacts like a ginormous drum and old Chinese wooden doors. There's plenty to look at and if you're not on a budget, you'll find some great items. Too pricey for my taste, though. Parking is scarce. If you're in the area, go check it out! read more

Today I visited Riverview for the second time. As a novice shopper, I find the help very knowledgeable. Alan was there both times I visted and was helpful both times. I thought the selection was great compared to the other stores in the area and the quality higher. A high end antique market that has quality pieces. Take your time you might miss a unique item. The store runs the whole gambit from gilded frames to retro lamps. If you want to make your house a funky "anthropologie" style this is the place to go. read more

not too bad i guess but i travel all the time and have visited many other more comprehensive antique places. on the day i visited there was only 1 other person looking around....and it seemed like a sleepy old antique place with not the largest collection by far. oh well, some may like it some may not but this was just average for me. read more

The selection of vintage clothing is the most impressive I have seen anywhere. The clothing is clean and in wearable condition. There are many mid-century designer pieces along with shoes, hats, handbags and jewelry. The selection of art potttery is also good. This is the place to go in for mid-century apparrel read more

Over the last 60 years I have visited many antique shops and markets from the most prestigious vaulted shops to the most funky and have never written a review but this one requires it. I was visiting in Milwaukee and had some time on my hands, read reviews of shops and decided to try this one among others. It is not unusual to see items miss labeled in a shop, especially a shop of booths, but the mislabeling here and the blatant false descriptions can only lead me to the conclusion that either it is intentionally done to mislead the uninformed or this is the least knowledgeable bunch of dealers I have ever seen. I saw things that were passed of as something that was over a century old that I bought in a gift shop new 15 years ago. And then it was priced at a ridiculous price even if it had been real. In another case an engraving of the Empress Elizabeth of the AustroHungarian Empire in court dress is labeled only as a lady. It was priced too high for what they thought it was and way to low for what it really is. These are just two examples of what is rampant throughout the shop. BUYER BEWARE. Better to shop in some of the junkier places where you actually can get a bargain and where people know what they have even if it is just a vintage beer glass. read more
