My family (8 of us) went to the Riverwalk Restaurant yesterday for brunch as a celebration for my son's graduation from William & Mary. We live in NJ and found that nothing there even compared to the quality food selections, price and attentive service as we received at the Riverwalk. First time visiting since pre-pandemic and we were terribly disappointed. We had reservations for 5 adults and 2 kids for Mother's Day Brunch. We'd gone to the brunch there over the years and always considered it pricey, but it was usually decent. Things have gone downhill since, starting with the price. Mother's Day brunch was $60 for adults and $25 for kids (my 5 year old grandson, really?). If I'm paying $60 per person, at least to food needs to be good. Landon was our server and he was mostly attentive...nice young man. Sad to say, he was the only good thing about our experience there today. The food was a major letdown. Our entire parties experience with the buffet line and the food was consistent...the food quality was a disappointment for everyone. From empty platters on the line that weren't refreshed in a timely manner, to some very odd flavors...the gravy for the biscuits and gravy tasted like pepperoni vs. sausage, an egg breakfast casserole that was a solid blob, missing bowls, empty pastry trays, I could go on and on. Finally, our family universally disliked the 3 dessert options of key lime pie, chocolate mousse, and peach cobbler. Each dessert tasted weird. I made a reservation for a party of 7 for outside seating in the evening of Saturday. When we arrived and checked out the table outside, it was so different from what I imagined, so I requested to go inside. A manager came and spoke to us to see if the restaurant can accomodate us. After a few minutes, a manager got me a table up by window. Awwww, I appreciate it. I am used to the white cloth dining in Alexandria, VA. LOL. The atmosphere was on point along with the service; however, food was somewhat ok, but it is not bad foot at all although some may expect more for the higher price. The view was fantastic from the lovely bay window. The whole historic area was very charming and inviting. I was wondering what happened to bread service we never received. I did not mention or ask because I did not want to be perceived as a complainer after a manager seated us inside. We would love to come back and visit again for brunch next time. read more

I have to admit the presentation of the food is lovely. The taste, not so much. We ordered a cheese plate that should have been called a bread plate because it was mostly bread. If you're going to offer a cheese plate, it should be spectacular otherwise why else offer it? This was bland. I also ordered a Mediterranean salad. Everything was piled on in a separate bunch. It took up the whole plate so there was no way to blend it so that I could taste everything in one bite. The greens and cucumber were so big that I had to cut it up. Our cocktails were good and came out quick..we did have to remind our server twice that we still have not received our juice we ordered. The restaurant was not busy compared to when we have gone in the past Our 1 appetizer took almost 30 minutes to come out. Once we got our entry we were missing items in our salads which were not add add ons. We used the restrooms on our way out which were filthy and disgusting. We brought up all of our concers to the server and manager (sandy blonde hair) and the only response we got back was a "I'll talk to the staff". We didn't receive a single apology or anything. This is a beautiful setting. If it is nice out, for sure sit outside. We were assured that they had gluten free items and a separate prep and cooking space. My daughter had lamb chops and son had tuna. Both said were amazing!! My husband and I had crab cakes. He loved them. I was assured they were gluten free, but alas I am afraid they mixed the two up when they served them to us or they were not gluten free. I was sick all night. They have the right idea regarding gluten free, so I am not sure what to think. Our waitress was so sweet, but she forgot us several times, husband's drink came 1/2 an hour late, I order hot tea with desert she forgot, our glasses were empty most of the time. We had reservations at 7, arrived on time and did not leave until around 930. We waited over an hour for our first item of food. They did not seem very busy, but, maybe short staffed and we slipped through the cracks. Not sure if we are a one off, but certainly have mixed feeling. If you have gluten issues stay away from the crab cakes at least. Probably will never try again as we are visiting from out of town, but this was our experience. read more

The place had maybe 10 tables of people, including a young couple who we overheard saying they had to get home and they had waited over an hour and a half for two salads. It was their anniversary. For the price tag this was a terrible choice. I don't know what was going on, but it was unprofessional. The hostesses were harried and pretty rude. The manager was over his head. Never again! Was initially offer a table next to a large table of 8 folks who were already quite loud and boisterous and another couple. Asked to be moved, picked another table and was told no, that is reserved! (No sign, no markings) It's 5:15 PM and the restaurant is near empty and you want to seat us next to a loud table and jam 12 people into one corner? and then when we ask for another table tell us no? We ask again for another table and get an eye roll and "all right" We had a ho hum dinner, wife had halibut but they never provided the side of cauliflower mash. I has skirt steak but it came out as slices? What? Steak slices is not a "Steak frites" dinner. So in the end despite the notice, no birthday wishes, nada. We asked on the way out and were told "Oh we had a card but you moved tables so you didn't get it" Front of house staff need a major attitude adjustment and retraining. We sat outside on a beautiful day which was the only good thing about this experience for me. I had the over-priced clam strip po'boy with a side of greens. The po'boy was on an unimpressive cold bun with just a slight dribble of sauce. There was an upcharge for the greens and they were sweeter than candy. If you like sweet greens this is for you but I like savory greens and found these virtually inedible. Our waitress did offer to bring fries instead but I chose greens as a side to avoid extra carbs. Joke was on me with sugary sweet greens! My friend got shrimp and grits and said they were good. Not in her top 5 but good! Sooo...if you want pricey and just OK this place may be for you. read more

The menu is identical to Water Street Grille, but you can expect a more intimate and calm atmosphere compared to the sister site. The menu leaves something to be desired, when you expect a classier experience. All food and drinks come from the other building, but the staff is friendly and accommodating. Food and drinks (including seasonal specials) are wonderful. Don't expect extra perks for special occasions. read more

We stopped for lunch while touring the Historical sights of Yorktown. What a pleasant surprise! We enjoyed the outdoor seating with a nice view of the river and raw oysters for starters. I had the Mediterranean Salad with Salmon and my husband had the daily special of a BLT made with soft shell crab. My salad was fresh, plated well, and the dressing was perfect! reservation changed after Brad personally let us know of 5 course Italian inspired menu same nite, arrived early, chatted with 3 different hostesses and saw Brad shortly after arriving, we sat in lobby to wait to be seated, arrived 30 minutes early, large groups started trickling in for special dinner, Brad personally showed up to take them all back to be seated in special room, glanced over at us in lobby and said to join and follow group, as we entered tables for 6 started to add people and a large rectangular table to accommodate 10+ people , I saw a round able with 3 people seated and reached for a chair, met with a negative voice " these seats are reserved" or something to that affect, saw Brad in the room asked where my husband and I should sit, he waved at a middle table away from the windows to see York river, which I spoke with him earlier about seats with a view, it took 20 seconds to realize how we were snubbed, treated poorly and used to fill up his $110 per person seating needs, left ASAP, had a much better experience and dinner at Waypoint restaurant ; if your a humble fisherman on the York river you too have a great view; so skip the views get great service and food elsewhere it will be worth it! read more

I had a party of 26 that came for lunch. We were able to reserve a private room and my contact Bri, had place names made for my guests to facilitate their pre-orders. I met earlier in the week to review the overall process. She was very helpful and professional. Our servers, Danielle and Megan made the process easy and brought in the various waves of entrees and made sure all my family members were taken care of. Drink refills were timely, and they also cleared any unneeded settings. The view of the York River was wonderful and some of the kids were able to go outside in an enclosed area to enjoy the river and boats. Ok, I am not huge on taking photos of my food (normally because I'm too excited to start eating right away), but when my plate of fish & chips came, I just had to...I mean, look at this thing of beauty? And if you think the plate is great, the taste of everything was even more impressive from the mains to the house sauces & slaw! My wife and I have been to this restaurant numerous times and it never disappoints. Their staff is always so friendly, polite, & helpful, their ambiance, especially on a clear day, is such a beautiful setting inside and out by the river, and their food is amazing, filling, and worth every penny! Not seen in the picture was my cup (great serving) of their she-crab soup, which has been my favorite in the area for the past two years! We also had their signature salmon salad, which has the freshest and greatest tasting mixture of greens, berries, goat cheese and toasted walnuts (they are still warm when the plate comes out), and I still haven't had a better piece of salmon than this one in the state! Upon stumbling upon this area, we decided to stop for dinner given the nice weather and water front location. Honestly the next door restaurant was our first choice but there was a 45 minute wait so we walked over to Riverwalk where there was no wait. This was the first red flag. Why would two adjacent venues have different crowds- Riverwalk has no wait, adjacent restaurant 45 minute wait. Pros: Table side credit card processing Free parking deck Water view Full bar offering both mocktails and cocktails Bread service Calamari Exfoliating station in bathroom Cons: -Restaurant smelled of spoiled seafood upon entering dining space -Waitress not very knowledge of food preparation which is odd for fine dining (ie. Would say vague things like made with spices); descriptors and details are key when answering questions on food preparation -We were advised that bread service came after soup serving however the table seated across from us received bread as soon as they were seated; once again conflicting details I ordered the salmon entree which was the only non fried option. Salmon is normally the safe fresh fish choice when visiting a restaurant for the first time however this was the worst salmon I've ever had. It was advertised as a bourbon glazed salmon with peanuts. This was accurate but the flavor combinations were disgusting. The salmon glaze tasted rancid on top of a bed of instant over cooked jasmine rice garnished with crushed peanuts and plated with roasted tomatoes. There were just too many uncomplimentary flavors. My companion ordered the fried seafood platter which was not memorable either. read more

We ate at the restaurant next door at the water street grille- it was a horrible experience- we will never return. Bathroom issues, food was mediocre, staffing issues(one waitress was replaced with a poor substitute), and mediocre service. So we came to the Riverwalk restaurant who though have higher prices have much better service, better food, and better drinks. It was well worth the slightly higher price. We enjoyed the bartender named Hailey- she made wonderful drinks, efficient, and very personable. We had a great time. Highly recommend the boozy iced coffee and out of my character the pineapple ube colada was wonderful. Staff were pleasant and the food/drinks were worth the price. We will return. Came here for Sunday brunch and was really impressed with the selection for the all you could eat brunch - baked oysters, glazed salmon, salads, fresh fruit, made-to-order omelets and waffles. The staff was friendly and attentive. We were able to sit outside (can get hot), and had a beautiful view of the water, ships, and had prime people watching spots. For a buffet- the food was good quality and reasonably priced and the view was great! It was also convenient to a lot of the historical sites. read more

I have been a server for years and this was one of the worst experiences I have had. The service was awful, the drinks were not good and our food took an entire hour to get out to us, which is kitchens fault of course, not blaming our server. But I will blame my server for being incredibly rude to my spouse as well as my friends spouse, don't know what that was about. She kept saying how nasty my spouse was because he wanted vodka. Hmm.. this isnt easy, since it is obvious the lunch prices are now what used to be dinner entree $! Same , it seems , for most restaurants newly opened after being closed for 3 months. My granddaughter ordered lobster mac n cheese, menu advertised as a WHOLE lobster on cheese penne.. but obviously it was NOT a whole lobster; more like a clawmeat chopped. The manager did have her chef bring an extra sm dish of meat.. $32! Steep for the mac n cheese! The cheesey pasta was tasty, but the lobster was 'questionable', having little sweet taste. I had a fresh, attractive and very good tuna poke. In addition to iced tea, I ordered a doz steamed ogsters, which were likely the worst I've ever had. The taste was ok; but not only were they small, but also quite dry-as if they had been prepared earlier and waiting for someone to order. In fact, when the waitress brought our food, she had forgotten the oysters and apologized when served, saying they 'take awhile' ( haha) My 'lunch' at about 1pm was $46! Plus a $10 tip ! Nope! A shame, too, because other table's servings did look good: big plate of steamed shrimp, pizzas, big pretzels.. Went for the Mother's Day Brunch. Food was mediocre and cold. Lots of gluten free options, except for salad because they put croutons in it. Service was extremely poor. Our server went missing for most of our meal, although she was clearly busy serving other tables. We watched as she ignored us again and again. The management was pleasant, but that can't make up for everything else. It was not worth the $70 + forced gratuity that we paid.
