I dropped by here because Albany Fish Market was inexplicably closed. Wow. I'm so glad I did. Their Albany burger was simply delicious. Egg yolk is natures gravy and the burger was juicy and perfect. Easily the best BBQ Albany has! Although Yelp is not big here, I thought I'd give my review. The first time I tried Rib Shack was on a corner of a gas station and thought to myself, wow this is true smoked bbq! I've tried many BBQ places and when I moved here, I didn't find one that hit the spot until I came across them. Since then, I've been following them on social media and was excited to see the rib shack opened its doors to a permanent location. My wife and I finally had a chance to stop by in hopes of trying their brisket for some Thursday night football. Unfortunately, we arrived just a little late and we're told it sold out. Since that was the main reason we stopped by, I was a little sad but we ended up ordering a half rack of ribs and their unique peanut butter smoked wings with macaroni and fried okra. On the way home we could not stop talking about how great the food smelled like it was smoking in the pit all day! Now for the review on the food. The ribs were perfectly smoked! It had a nice smoke ring, pull off the bone tender (but not overly tender), light clean smoke taste with a little sweetness from the rub and pork. The wings were also very tender with a light crispiness on the skin. However we did not taste any peanut butter. After we finished our meal...I did contact the location and asked them about my order since I wasn't sure if it was me or if the peanut butter should have a light taste. The representative quickly remembered me and did apologize, as there should've been a peanut butter taste on it. He offered to take care of us on our next visit but I respectfully declined since the wings were still delicious! If you like your sauces like me, we were given three different ones: original, hot and a vinegar based one. The reason for my 4 star instead of 5 star review is due to the ordering issues and because I'm leaving this review without trying the brisket. We will definitely be back and will update this review. The young lady that took my order had a great personality and really knew how to make you smile while getting your food! The food was also very good... First time here. Wife ordered pulled pork plate and I ordered pulled chicken plate. We got pinto beans with brisket, coleslaw, baked beans, and french fries for sides. All of the food was excellent! The two young ladies taking orders, serving food, taking care of customers, and busing tables were role models of what good workers look like and what excellent Customer Service should be like in restaurants such as this. Our waitress stopped by several times to check on things and was very friendly. This was my first visit to RJ Alverson's Rib Shack, but it won't be my last. The food was amazing and the service wonderful. Nikki was our waitress. She was attentive and was spot on with her recommendations. I was looking for a place to cater an office luncheon and wanted to try them. I placed my catering order before I left. I can't eat meat, so I took my official meat taster with me. He thought the meat was delicious and didn't need any sauce, but he tried them any way. The sauces are in bottles on the table and they complimented the meat instead of drowning out the taste. I had the fried mushrooms which were fried perfectly. I could still taste the mushroom. They weren't overcooked like mushrooms can be sometimes. The baked beans and broccoli salad were delicious sides. The beans had a smokey but sweet taste and the broccoli tasted like they had just picked it for my salad. It was fresh and not drowning in mayonnaise. I've never had jalapeno corn before, but I loved it. It had a nice spicy kick to it. And last but definitely not least was the banana pudding. It was a perfect end to the meal. The bananas were at the peak of ripe and I loved having the wafers around the container and not having them getting soggy in the bottom of the bowl. I don't know how I've overlooked this hidden gem, but I'm glad I decided to try them and I'm looking forward to them catering our office luncheon.
