And the location is right by a housing division so it's not creepy at all. However, there is no bathroom so make sure to take care of business beforehand. Also, traffic on Route 45 in the morning can get pretty backed up so be sure to leave with plenty of time to spare. If you're trying to get on the 7:11 morning train and miss it there is a train at 7:19 so you don't need to try to outrun the train. Let's face it. That's not a smart idea at all.

I'm reviewing a Metra station. Here goes. This Metra in Vernon Hills serves the North Central line…read morefrom Antioch to Union Station. The North Central line is great for those working in the city during the week. The rush hour trains are enough and are evenly spaced despite not being an extremely frequent train schedule. I see a lot of riders at the 6:24am and a hearty crowd at the 5:50am for those extreme early birds. I've taken that train a few times and got my morning tea fix soon after arriving. The return schedule is equally spaced with trains running about an half hour or so apart. The 4:24pm train is popular while the 5pm and later tend to be less full. The ride from Vernon Hills to Union Station generally takes an hour. I enjoy my ever growing list of podcasts to listen to on my way home. The podcasts Things Your Mom Never Told You, Reply All, Radiolab, The Longest Shortest Time, Liar City, and David Steinberg entertain me the most during this ride back to the burbs. Though a previous reviewer called this station's location "creepy" with a subdivision nearby, I call it well placed. See, this Metra stop off of US 45 serves the south side of Vernon Hills into Lincolnshire. Near this station, there are at least three subdivisions: Deerpath, Stone Fence, and Centennial Crossing within walking distance or short drive/drop off/pickup. On the other side of Fairway Drive, there's a huge housing development towards Lincolnshire as well as Mundelein in the opposite direction. It's location is perfect for those living on this part of Vernon Hills. When returning home, the parking lot is always full and teaming with cars. So, Metra is doing something right by this location. During the summer, this station is also home to the farmer's market and a festival. So, it's not all that bad as a reviewer described. Now, the amenities of this station are lacking compared to Buffalo Grove and Wheeling's Metra stops. There's no soda machine or cafe for a early morning caffeine fix. Yes, those would be nice. It doesn't seem to be a problem for the passengers arriving with full travel mugs of coffee or a trusty Dunkin Donuts cup in hand. There's no WiFi too. If they installed this, I think it would be the biggest improvement to this station since it sees its fair share of commuters. Like other stations, there's a warming center on each side with a speaker system alerting the next train and pay boxes for the ridiculously cheap parking in the lot. On snowy mornings like today, the sidewalks were being cleared of snow by workers. Generally speaking, it's a sparse Metra train station with not the greatest of schedules. It's a perfect downtown Chicago commuter line and station. It has just enough to get to the city and get you back in comfort.

A friend I…read morewas visiting in Libertyville picked me up and took me back home with her, but to get home I would need a rental car. My insurance company set me up with the Enterprise in Libertyville and my first time renting a car went so well. Jeremy was so helpful and made renting my car so easy. I had to return my car in a different state and I just made sure to keep in touch with both Enterprise stores. The process was so easy and I'm so grateful for the help they had making a difficult situation so much easier.

Sometimes when one rents a car there is a pressing need…read more I called Enterprise based upon the fact that I needed a pickup. The agent confirmed that there was pickup from Libertyville to Lincolnshire to meet my need which was pressing. Information was given. The reservation was confirmed with the statement that the pickup driver would call shortly in advance of pickup. The agent sent a confirming calendar text. This was all set for a 1:30 p.m. pickup. At 1:45 p.m. I called to find out why I had no call or pickup. The person answering the phone said that the pickup was not in the 'notes', but that there would be a pickup shortly. Asking what 'shortly' meant, the agent said immediately. Shortly, the agent called to say they could not pickup due to the fact that it exceeded their zone (by a bit). I asked what the discrepancy was: they were showing a 15-minute drive, not 10. Doing the math, this was an extra 10 minutes of driving. I asked to speak to a manager. One definition of a manager is someone who has the authority to approve actions that may differ from the minutiae of operation. After being put and held on hold for 10 minutes (with canned messaging - see some details below), I hung up, called back and asked to speak to the manager. Shane. I described what had transpired to Shane. I said given what transpired that 5 minutes should not be problematic. That a manager could authorize that. He said he would not alter it. As I complained, he hung up. Before he hung up, I told him that I had been listening to the canned message (it was on a one-minute loop or so, so that meant hearing it about 10 times). The message was that Enterprise provided a great experience, that they went the extra mile for the customer and that they put the customer first. Not so. I asked Shane for his last name. 3 requests. Each time he declined saying Shane, manager, with no last name. As I complained, he hung up. In reading Yelp reviews on this facility which I did not do beforehand, I see where a customer had a very unhappy experience with a Shane. Probably the same guy. 'Manager'.

Still trying to school myself on the parking permit situation. I know if you're a Libertyville resident you have a permit and can park on certain spaces. If you are just an average Joe, you can still pay for your parking using the little kiosk near the station entrance, or use the App - ParkMobile. I believe parking is still $2/day. There are plenty of spaces to sit inside while you wait for your train, and also a bathroom. Even a little vending machine to buy a cold pop or water if needed. You don't have to walk far at all to get to the train platform as it's literally outside the door. Nice station.

There is seating inside and outside to wait for your train or to be picked up. They have a ticket machine available, but honestly it is much easier buying a metra ticket on the app. The station is conveniently located in downtown Libertyville and has ample parking for commuters (for a price, of course). It is walkable to a couple of nearby coffee shops too. FYI Metra Milwaukee District North line to Chicago seems to run late all the time. So, allow for ample travel time!
