Here is where it gets weird, in the middle of the show it started to get super hot, many people started to fan themselves with show programs, including me, I almost had to get out. I was able to make it through to the end but while leaving I noticed how narrow the exit was from theater to lobby, got a little claustrophobic and thought, if there was an emergency, it would be very hard to safely exit, in my opinion. Rising Phoenix Theater is a small community theater that I just happened upon while reading a local…read moreFacebook page. I saw they were doing their first play, so I decided to support their efforts. I saw A Company of Wayward Saints on March 16th, and I thought it was excellent!($12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students.) The play was performed on a small stage in a church with very little theatrical "stuff", but they did a really good job with what they had. The acting was good. The costumes were topnotch, the set was clever, and the play was fun to watch. The program showed that they also do improv, so I went to that show, too. The improv show is called Spontaneous Combustion, and I saw it on April 5th. The ticket was only $7-- at that price, I figured I could take the risk. I was very glad I did. Such a funny show! It's the kind of improv they did on the tv show, Whose Line is it, Anyway? The players were hilarious! There was some audience participation, too. Just voluntary-- nothing embarrassing. The show started at 7:30 and went till 9:00-- lots of laughs and fun for only $7! The emcee said they did the improv shows about once a month, so I am keeping my eye on their Facebook page to see when the next one is. I'll be there! Support local stuff!

Overall the staff are welcoming. Attentive to large party orders. The food is good and nice menu of options from pizzas, pastas, salads and if you're in the mood, a good burger. It was a touch weird to see the performers with head set microphones and also holding microphones but also having a bit aggressive on the sound. It is a small space and seemed to be set to levels that would sound a venue twice this size. Seat comfort can always be better. I was shocked there was zero bathroom line as they have one. As someone with a peanut sized bladder, I will never complain about an available restroom that is clean and has soap and all the papers. And now, a small rant. I am not 'sober' but I don't tend to drink while out and about and I have quite a few sober friends due to recovery or even a few are actually allergic to alcohol (I am allergic to hops and agave, aka tequila). Several of the friends I go to things with are one of these so I don't drink. I am also many times the one driving. Can I just get a Coke or Pepsi... seriously, the options to not drink beer or wine is kombucha, coffee or hot cocoa??? We seriously thought she was kidding. Thanks for having a tap with water? But kombucha? Here, since you don't want booze, how about vinegar....

First and foremost, Domeka is the real deal. She's lived and breathed improv and theater her whole life, studying, traveling, teaching, and learning from some of the greats. In the process, she developed her own approach to improvisation and theater that is deeper than many other styles, focusing more on what we can find in the depth of emergence together than on getting laughs or following any specific rules. She instantly creates a safe, welcoming space for everyone, meets each person where they are, and challenges them to take the next step. Her teaching is organic and approachable: she sets the work in motion, then helps us see how those exercises deepen our improv and stagecraft. Deep End is where I found myself as an actor and improviser. I stopped overthinking and started allowing scenes to emerge--without having to be clever or forced. The magic comes from surrendering to whatever develops: sometimes hilarious, sometimes deeply emotional, sometimes surreal or fantastical. The result is always honest, human, and wildly entertaining. And fun! Domeka has gathered a diverse, talented group of improvisers, and the shows she directs are treasures. I've gone to the same show multiple times and each performance is unique and delightful. She also brings in amazing guest teachers and performers for Skinny Dip, Master Classes, and special events, so the learning never stops. There are so many ways to plug in: Shows (nominal ticket, absolutely worth it--go to the same show more than once!), Skinny Dip open nights ($5 to watch, free to play), three-hour Master Classes on focused skills, six-week classes (two hours/week with a final performance), free intro Workshops, and occasional weekend intensives. For three years the weekly classes have been the highlight of my week--learning, collaborating, playing, laughing, crying, and growing in a supportive space. Deep End isn't about being funny or clever; it's about trusting each other, trusting the work, trusting oneself, and seeing what emerges. I'm becoming a better actor, improviser, and human--deeper in awareness, compassion, and connection. I can't recommend Deep End Theater enough. All around win for me…read more Tyler, the director of Post5 has made a sound effort to create a company and space that are an alternative to the standard Shakespeare theatre world. They started with a dream of something different and they have achieved something grand! Some of the plays hit home in their own ways but more and more they all are reaching something tangible in your emotional response. The first of last summer was fun and a bit heavier whilst this last one, "comedy of errors" was a light and cheering story true to the original but taking all of those things we love and hate about our city to laugh at together. It was pure genius. So proud to be connected to that world and support it! The space is warm in the summer so bring something to fan yourself with. They provide ice cold water bottles at times and apologetic smiles for the heat but the shows are well worth the small suffering. It's a charming quirky church anex that not only allows such tomfoolery as shakespeare but even a drag show after our first experience! It was like watching a movie, but real life, up close and personal. The stage props, lighting, and sound all come together nicely with the terrific acting to give you a very dramatic and emotional experience. There were moments that put me into deep thought and anticipation, then moments later I was laughing my ass off! Very well done. They also serve food and beverages and have a full bar to take advantage of. They have intermissions so you can go back for more if needed. I will definitely be back to watch another one. I'd recommend taking family or friends, or even a date for a fun-filled, entertaining night!

Educators lack any type of early age developmental training, parents are often called to have their…read morekids disciplined. Zero training in nor diversity often blaming the child for "not behaving correctly". I was literally followed in to the bathroom to be questioned why my 2 children needed to use the restroom. And when the daughter of the owner hovered over the water fountain insisting she would press the button for her, our daughter cried wanting to do it herself. There is a major miss with this facility in bringing a warm and supportive environment for children. When a child cries wanting their mommy, it's not a means to then tell the parents she's a distraction in class. This is 2025 and this is the best that lake Oswego has to offe? We are so happy to have severed ties with this group. I truly hope they one day get the wake up call they need.

Over the years, we've gone to several places for her lessons, but no place else is able to achieve the balance between really teaching and demanding a lot of the kids, finding top-notch professionals to teach them, while also being emotionally supportive and compassionate. At Spotlight, my daughter feels both challenged and supported, and has a true sense of belonging there. We were on the waitlist for a long time (almost 2 years!), because Spotlight is so good and people know it, but believe me, it was worth the wait. I am very grateful for the HUGE difference Spotlight and their wonderful staff have made in my daughter's life.
