This is the second IRS notice that I received for the 2014 tax year. The 1/25/16 notice stated that…read morethe IRS had a credit on my account. After going through the rigmarole of signing Power of Attorneys, so that Mr. Kmetz could contact the IRS on our behalf, I didn't hear back from him. I finally called him to learn what was happening. He told me he attempted to contact the IRS, but they kept on hold too long, so he knew nothing. I had no option then to call the IRS myself. I learned during the phone call with the IRS that Mr. Kmetz never electronically filed my federal income taxes. The IRS explained that if Mr. Kmetz did attempt to electronically send them, he would have gotten an acknowledgement of submission. I do not know if Mr. Kmetz never got around to submitting them or if he didn't follow up when the electronic submission was rejected. To this day, he has not explained or apologized. Unfortunately, to correct his error the burden became mine. I had to photocopy and submit the return with original signatures and W2s. Mr. Kmetz created a headache for us and it be became my responsibility to correct it. Now I have gotten a second notice, dated 12/5/16 from the IRS. I have not yet called the IRS, but my educated guess from reading the notice and speaking with my brokerage company, is that Mr. Kmetz failed to correctly document on the federal return an IRA contribution that was made and later rescinded during the tax year after AGI levels were exceed. I relayed this possibility to him in an email and his response back to me was to handle it myself. I followed up with a phone call. Mr. Kmetz showed no decorum during this call, he refused to allow me to voice my concerns; he spoke over me completely and then told me he would do nothing unless I payed him up-front. It is my belief that I already paid him to complete my income taxes correctly. Mr. Kmetz's incompetence - the non-electronic filing and now the incorrect completion of the returns- should not cost more for him to correct his errors. Mr. Kmetz should graciously be fixing his mistake without insisting on more money. Think really hard before hiring this firm. IRS notices could be your future too.
