The staff does not appear to get along or help each other out. No substitutions (ie onion rings instead of fries). The food was mediocre. Not bad. Not good. I did not like or eat the fries. The visit and meal just was not enjoyable. I would not recommend this place to visit. read more

Went to Roadhouse 23 on the edge of Listowel, on highway 23 for Father's Day with my mom & dad. It's extremely hard to think of something nice to say... my mom & dad saw many of their friends there to have a chat with. Okay here I go; the place is still on the late 70's / early 80's decor. The menu is even older but prices are high like the city. I ordered the Hot Turkey plate (shredded turkey, potatoes - fries or mashed; coleslaw or cooked veggies). I asked if they could substitute the coleslaw or veggies for a tossed salad; but was informed the cook (owner) won't do substitutes. So I had to order a side order garden salad with dressing (oil & vinegar) for $3.95. I got a small bowl of iceberg lettuce with 3 tomato wedges; 1 slice of a carrot; a tub of vegetable oil and a bottle of vinegar. My father ordered the Father's Day Buffet. He had a large amount of salads and when he went back up to the hot plate he got full. He asked for a take-out container to clear off his plate. When the waitress returned she gave him the container and said "the chef (owner Gus) said you can't usually take home from the buffet"; load enough for everyone in the restaurant to hear.
