Decided to check this place out after seeing a review by Authentically Charles on YouTube. Got there at noon on Sunday and they were already out of roast duck and char siu. There was a line 10 deep out the door. A lady in front of me said it's best to call in an order early in the morning or the day before. I got the roast pork with fried rice and extra gau gee . The roast pork was thick and juicy and the skin was a little on the salty side. The sweetness of the char siu in the fried rice made a good accompaniment to the saltiness of the pork, and it had a good meat to rice ratio. The gau gee was more chewy than crispy. Roast Duck Kitchen I must say has the best Duck I've ever had! Located in Aiea on the 2nd floor above times this little spot is definitely a place that everyone needs to try. Being that as a nation we are amongst a pandemic of course there is a 6ft apart rule as well as an ordering system to try and keep everyone safe. It's simple though. You go in, order what you would like and once your order is ready the worker at the front will call it out and you are good to go! I wish I had taken more pictures of the menu but what really surprised me was the crispy Gau Gee. The inside meat is super flavorful and the outside crust is perfectly crunchy. Duck: what can I say about the duck? A lot of people dislike oily food I should say but duck is best when it is oily! Not too salty, not too bland and very flavorful. I love coming here for their onolicious roast pork, roast duck, and char siu. They have always given a generous amount in the past when you buy a plate but the recent visit tells me things have changed. It costs $18 for a combo plate but the portions are a lot smaller than it use to be. I understand it's inflation but I really do miss the previous Hawaii sized portions. Other than that the being the only complaint the food is still on point as far as taste. Will continue to come here when I need a fix but it won't be as often as before. read more

Definitely one of those small gem places where the food is consistent. Especially considering Roast Duck Kitchen is outside of Chinatown, you can find roast duck. Roast pork, and my favorite char siu here. Just a caution,; you are coming here for the food and not smiling and pleasant service. The woman taking and packaging orders is inconsistent in her customer service, leaning more on the rude side. She is not above yelling at the others working there and then glaring at you to take ur order. Awkward. I suggest ordering ahead, hold onto your breath and patience, purchase your order and leave immediately. Hidden gem in this shopping center...It's located on the 2nd level...at the top of the escalators from Times Supermarket. They sell a variety of roasted meats like Duck, Pork, Chicken and BBQ Pork. They also sell Crispy Gau Gee. I ordered 2-cold ginger chicken lunch plates, one with Fried Rice and the other with Cake Noodle...they both came with Cabbage and 2-Crispy Gau Gee. I have great news to share, I am writing my updated review of my one star review. After discussing the situation with a fellow Yelp friend who comes here often, it must have been a off day for owner, she must have been so busy for this issue to happen. I have to confess, we did try elsewhere and nothing compares to RDK! My mom, and entire family loves the roasted meats here. Owner has been super nice every time I make a visit. I guess I must say that We cannot live without Roast Duck Kitchen!! My most recent visit was during Lunar New Year eve, I had to make sure I called in to place my order of one roast duck and 2 lbs roast pork, since they do sell out quick, which I am glad I did. When I arrived, I found out that they are sold out, my phone order wasn't enough, I needed to get more duck and roast pork. Happy note, I found a new way to eat roasted meats Keto style, it goes so well on a bed of butter lettuce, Yums!! 2/6/18 While since I've been here and since I was in the area decided to stop by. Of course it did not disappoint. This time I had the roast duck plate no rice no cabbage but with the cake noodle and the crispy Gau gee.... oh! I also bought the tray of end cut roast pork sitting on the counter. So yes, $20 later... Duck did not disappoint, oily, tasty, salty and tasty, just the parts I like, the bony back all the way to the tail. The skin of the gau gee is perfect, but the inside was a bit much for me and when I saw a little pink, I decided to forgo the rest of the inside. The roast pork was cold already. I'm sure if I'd gotten here earlier it would be nice and crispy. I'll have to take it home and we heat in my toaster oven. The roast pork has a nice balance of lean meat and fat and the flavor is just right. All in all I'd say it was a great lunch. Glad I came by again! read more

Got some takeout during lunch! I was wondering how they would handle Covid and I can now say they handle it awesomely! There were around 8 people lined up to the side, all with masks and social distancing. The lady at the counter would only let one person come in at a time. Basically you walk in when she says you can, you place your order and pay and the she tells you to stand outside to wait for her to call you. So outside you go. There was an older couple who wanted to step in because they thought it was their turn and she yelled at them "not your turn!!" and instead called out some food that was ready. So a man walked in and grabbed his food and left and then the poor older couple again tried to walk in and she yelled "WAIT UNTIL I CALL YOU" and instead she called out more food that was ready. Finally after a few more food stuff, she then told the older couple "OKAY NOW". I loved it! Not because I like seeing people get yelled at, but because I saw her taking this very seriously and forcing everyone to be safe and comply. I've wanted to check out this highly rated spot for months now, so when I finally got there, I over ordered a bit... But didn't regret it! Chinese leftovers reheat quite well! I was nervous that they're run out of food by the time I arrived at about 1245 pm on a Friday afternoon, but there was no line when I arrived and they still had the stuff I wanted to try available. I didn't order till I got there so I could make sure they accepted credit cards (they do!) and see what looked good! I got a $10 lunch plate to go, substituting cake noodles for $1 which is pretty worth it, considering I can easily make rice at home to supplement the lunch. I was happily surprised that I could order 2 meats as I wanted to try as much as possible. I chose roast duck, which was about eight pieces and moist and tasty, and about ten slices of flavorful char siu. Also quite generous to include a gaugee, which was hot and freshly fried. I heard someone else order with no cabbage but I found it a nice contrast to the oily meats. Also got a $7.50 bento container of roast pork which was probably the most melt in the mouth version that I've tried. The skin wasn't crispy but was yummier when I broiled some leftovers in the oven. I'd return for another plate lunch... Maybe next time with roast duck, roast pork, and substitute char siu fried rice with the gaugee of course! All my Chinese favorites in one plate! read more

Roast pork good quality but skin not crispy. I don't know if it's because I bought it at noon and only now eating it at 08:00 pm. Cost is a bit steep. Paid about $30 for 1.5 pounds. It's $20 per pound. Looking at old reviews looks like at least 50% increase in cost. But it's ok to indulge once in a while. I'd definitely come back for more pork and would like to try the roast duck. I love roast duck but the mainly for the fatty skin. Duck has too many bones and little meat. Oh well make sure u eat the meat sooner the better. They open up early so I'm banking on a more crispy product next time round. Enjoy!! read more

Why drive down to Chinatown, hunt for parking, or hold your breath as you walk through the municipal parking lot, when you can come to Aiea Shopping Center and get great char siu. Yes they have roast duck and roast pork too, but my favorite is char siu. You can order ala cart or as a plate with rice and gau gee. Their Char Siu is flavorful, juicy, and just the right amount of fat where it's not too much but still kinda melts in your mouth. Sooo good, makes my mouth water just thinking about it. You have to go early if you want the good stuff as they typically sell out. I've been at 11 and they've ran out already. Also, even though the line may look long, it usually goes by quick. WOW! WOW! WOW! Our friend told us that this is THE place to get roast pork and man were they right! We don't live in the area but it was well worth the drive! We got there right when they opened and ordered the roast pork, roast duck and char siu fried rice The roast pork was so crunchy and fatty without me feeling icky afterwards. Ordering here was like walking on pins and needles. Kinda like being in school again and waiting to see the principal. Lol. When we first got there, inside we saw one lady customer and another standing outside. The lady outside said she already ordered. How did I just find out about this place. You have to be quick or else everything goes! I've tried the roast duck and roast chicken and I loved both. The gau gee they gave was sooo crispy and full. It was yummy! Now I'll go there over and over again! They give a dipping sauce for both the roast chicken and roast duck. We also go the roast pork for my friend and she enjoyed it. She didn't use the mustard sauce it came with. It didn't even need anything. It was already good. It's a good bang for your buck. They are open everyday except Sunday. I will always go back for a good craving of duck, roast pork, roast chicken. They even have cold ginger chicken. It's a small hole in the wall in the same area where McDonald's Aiea. After we eat here, we get our ice cream rolls from Da Boba Place! It's a perfect combination and a good one stop to get food and dessert! Finally got to try this place and let me stay by saying I ate it about 20 minutes suey we picked it up and there good was still good. Gau gee not sure what type of meat is in there but thr flavor combination is good and it should probably be even better if its fresh.. Rust b dick is excellent.. not dry and plenty of meat. Taster even better with the sauce they give.. Cold ginger chicken Is good but nothing spectacular.. "No words, just no words." That was mine and my friend's instant reaction when we took a bite of this spot's roast pork. Gosh, I never imagined I would see pork meat so tender that my fork effortlessly cut through it. It was "fall off the bone" amazing. The last time I had pork of that high quality was when I tasted Lechon de Cebu in the southern Philippine town of the same name. My friend and I both ordered the lunch combo with the roast pork and roast duck mix, including two scoops of steamed rice, one piece of gaugee, and steamed cabbage. could not tell what was better between the roast pork and the roast duck. Both were bursting with flavor and tenderness. The roast pork worked well with the mustard sauce, and the duck with the plum sauce. The juices from the meats seeped onto the cabbage, so you can imagine how the cabbage tasted. I cannot believe heavenly food like this is not far from where I live. I must resist coming here even weekly for food that tastes so good, but so bad for you. For dessert, I personally recommend heading downstairs from this spot to Ice Garden for their unique shave ice. With the quality of the food, expect a bit of a wait during lunchtime, unless you phone in your order. There is no indoor seating, and only one table outside. This is just a "grab and go" place. Oh Roast Duck Kitchen, I feel like I can smell your yumminess from work (-10 mins away). A coworker who's a total foodie told me about a place that has "the best roast duck on island," so naturally I HAD to check it out. Quick & dirty directions, go to aiea bowl...it's upstairs near McDonald's. They open officially at 9 but I usually get there by 830 ish...they're on Chinese time so obviously they're prepped & ready to go by the time i arrive. Let me start by saying I never walk into a fast food place expecting 5 star service. The older lady simply asks, what you want? Well....I tell her 1 roast duck & 1/2 lb char siu ( which is my husbands absolute favorite by the way) & she says ok...takes my money & im on my merry way. No expectations, no disappointment. The roast duck skin is crispy & the meat is juicy. There was maybe ONE TIME where it was a bit too salty but all the other times it was spot on & perfect. I would drive here every day to buy duck if I wasn't dead tired after work. Char siu is also very juicy and not dry at all. Here's another busy, line-up out the door place that sells great local specialties...and another hidden gem that @Rani R. had to take me to so I could finally try it. Man, I've been missing out! Not only does Roast Duck Kitchen have great roast duck (duh!), but they make other things like crispy gau gee, crispy roast pork, cold ginger chicken, and other great stuff as posted on the chalk board specials as well as the regular menu. While they have some plate lunches, this place is more a "whole duck", "whole chicken" kind of place where you pick up and take to a party or take home to enjoy with family. Or by yourself. I won't judge. It's also one of those places where everything looks so good that it's easy to walk out with 4 bags of food and a $60 bill. It's ok, they take credit cards, and it's worth it. Roast Duck Kitchen is a little hard to find--it's tucked away upstairs in the same shopping complex as Starbucks and The Alley, but you have to find the escalators and go up from the Starbucks level. To me, this complex is kind of deserted looking, but never fear, you'll find it. Parking is free and there's lots, but you might have to walk a little. And the store is small and HOT inside. If you're not one to handle the heat, bring a fan, or go early or on a cooler day. But never mind. Bring a cool drink. Get your food and go sit in your car or go beach or go home.
