A fantastic local find!…read more I've been walking past this place every day for the last year and had never dared step inside (it doesn't look like much from the outside) but as it turns out, the food is scrumptious and surprisingly cheap. Run by mother and son, serving authentic Eastern European dishes. I had the borsch, a sweet beetroot soup full of fresh herbs and veg, served with a dollop of soured creme and croutons. For main I had the Pierogi, home-made dumplings, with a mix of fillings: meat, mushroom & cabbage and creamy potato & onion. Dessert was divine... pancakes filled with melted dark chocolate and fresh strawberries. My friend had the deep fried sweet goats cheese with raspberry coulis (I kid you not, it was one of the best puddings ever!) Since the first visit I have been going back every week or two. Really friendly and attentive service, chilled cafe atmosphere, and it's generally nice to support a cool, family-run, local place.

Queues are long, it took me 20 minutes to order my food but that was a peak time Sunday lunch time. I don't recommend any of the cakes, we tried slices of brownie and carrot cake and although baked and prepared in a home-made manner I've tasted much better from a supermarket. £1 for a can of coke is a bit pricey though (the nearby Ice Cream vendor is forbid from selling drinks), if you can take a cool box of drinks and sweets then grabbing a bite to eat here won't seem to expensive.

Hummus is at its core essence a 4-ingredient situation (chick peas, water, tahini, lemon juice) but this tasted like only the first two items were used). Underneath my "hummus" was a shed load of boiled cabbage and the lightest of smatterings of old brown avocado which tasted like avocado when it's gone brown and should, therefore, be binned. With just half an hour to spare before it closed (it's only open till 3pm) we sped to the restaurant to find it bustling with customers. The menu is extensive with what must be around 50 items including a specials menu and loads of veggie options. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich (£6.50) which was dripping with a ridiculous amount cheese. The order also came with a pot of slightly salty tomato soup to dip the sandwich in. Being just around the corner from my house I was excited to see what the pub was going to be turned into and was pleasantly surprised when it was not just refurbished as a pub. I visited the place about a week after it opened and was pleased with what I found. A nicely decorated space with many tables and a open to view kitchen with seating around it so you can watch your food being prepared. The menu is not overwhelmingly large and hopefully this means that everything they do, they do well. I opted for the full English breakfast at £8 is rather on the pricey side, however what you get is a large breakfast with quality ingredients and you really can taste what your eating is great food. The place offers only free range organic type food and for that reason is slightly higher price than most places in Archway. They have a range of food on the menu burgers etc and offer wine and some nice craft beer too. I'm not really sure why it's bike friendly, a friend told me it's supposedly is. There is the addition of two bike posts on the pavement outside on the junction and maybe these were installed at the request of the owner?? Certainly didn't see anyone with their bike in the place. Overall I'm please to see an establishment of this sort come to the Archway area, and hopefully it is a success. It certainly deserves to be.
