Arrogant and Dismissive. Wish i could give less than 1 star. I waited months to get an appointment…read more The Doctor answered a personal phone call on his cell in the middle of my appointment. Proceeded to tell me that my condition I was diagnosed with by another doctor isn't real and I don't have it even though I was hospitalized twice with this issue. Said he didn't want to waste my time as there was nothing he could do to help me. Wasn't even willing to run any further testing. If you hate your job, maybe time for a new career? Thank god I am going to see a Stanford GI Doctor next month because Dr. Melitas was a waste of my time.

Apparently, being arrogant and condescending is a prerequisite for becoming a gastroenterologist,…read moreor maybe I've just had a run of bad luck. After a couple of bad experiences, I was hopeful that I would be able to work with Dr. Melitas. I was overdue for an upper endoscopy to manage an ongoing condition, so my primary care doctor gave me referral. Dr. Melitas is very young and he went to medical school in the Caribbean (not a good sign), but his two residencies were redeeming, so I decided to give him a chance. He walked in and asked if I would mind if a couple of young, female nursing students sat in on the appointment, and I had no objection. I began to explain my concerns and symptoms, which I had researched extensively on the internet. Guess that was my first mistake-- gastroenterologists seem to prefer their patients to be uninformed, pliable, and obedient. Dr. Melitas was unaware of the published studies I cited-- which pertained directly to my specific medical issues-- and he basically belittled, disagreed with, or mocked virtually everything I said during the entire visit. He laughed at the natural remedies I'd tried, which had given me significant relief, and he ridiculed my resistance to taking Proton Pump Inhibitors, which simply mask symptoms and can exacerbate the actual cause of gastrointestinal issues. PPIs also have objectionable side effects, like causing iron and B12 deficiencies, as well as osteoporosis. I struggle with anemia reduced bone density as it is. I found myself wondering whether Dr. Melitas was always this pompous, or whether perhaps he was showing off his manly command of the room for the young ladies. The last straw was when he had the audacity to call me "Honey," which was an obvious attempt to feel superior and make me feel insignificant or less-than. It was unprofessional and rude, and it reeked of insecurity. In summary, if you're looking for a gastroenterologist with an open mind, who listens to your concerns and wants to be a partner in your healthcare rather than a deity, you might want to look a little more. I'm going to.

When Dr. Shah heard that our primary care physician was going to retire, he Generously told my husband that if he needed anything, to "Just Call Him". Who does that ? Nobody, Except Dr. Shah ! Amazing ! The world needs more health care providers like Dr. Shah. We feel blessed to have him in our lives.

Her boss called me back and sent me a text link to the forms.... perfect! I attempted to fill out their forms which were repetitive...I entered my name and DOB 6 times within 2 pages and I'm not sure how many pages were remaining because I was kicked off of the site...I thought, no big deal, it should save my progress and I'll continue...NOPE! start all over again. I get a little farther and have to enter name/DOB at least 2 more times but after entering the 10 meds that I'm on.... it kicked me off again! I am a computer technician and very tech savvy so I know how to use navigate. I immediately messaged the office but did not hear back from them for the 2 days leading up to my appointment. I go in to my appointment and the counter person asked about the documents so I told her what happened and that I can not/will not fill out by hand due to arthritis as well as other issues with dominant hand. She said "Yeah, people have been complaining about that, can you sign this one document and I'll talk to my boss?". I said ok. She goes to talk to her boss, the boss comes out, already has RBF (resting B face), with an attitude in her voice like she doesn't want to be there, and/or she is going to tell me what's up. I explained what happened with filing out the digital forms twice yet again and the only thing she offered was to cancel. She said..."So you want to cancel?", I said if that's my only option, she said "yep!". So I walked out! I wonder what the American Disabilities Act will have to say about how they are treating patients with medical disabilities that cannot fill out their documents, don't have someone to do it for them, and the forms link isn't working properly. Our medical industry sucks!

Hearing our family discussing our Dad's trauma in the French Hospital lobby one day 9 years ago you listened in just passing by, politely interrupted, took a personal doctor exam on James Carp that day, examined, evaluated, stated he had stones blocking his bile duct, did several surgeries, and James was cured within a week and recovered and lived to be a month short of 103 years old. I remembered your attitude, confidence, skills, talent. Awesome and impressive. Doc, I am suffering now, been 6 weeks and my Primary Care doctors and have no clue to my inability to eat and hold anything down, to swallow without blockage and irritation in my throat, choking, belching, continuous mucous/phlegm coming up, to breathe easily, to sleep, stand, sit, lie without suffering 24/7. Nightmare! I'm desperate trust in your knowledge skill set, and care. Please see me. I'm a geezer (baby boomer), have health coverage, am alone, and twice have called for an ambulance in the middle of the nite to help me at Twin Cities ER. They did minimal actions and nothing lasting curative. I am desperate, Dr. Meiselman. I know you can help me and solve these horrible issues i'm suffering. And have no lasting relief yet. Blessings! I haven't even stepped foot in this office, so how the heck would I have a test set up?! I understand the perils and trials and tribulations of the medical field currently with Covid, but this is ridiculous and completely unprofessional. No excuse. I've heard complaints from several friends regarding problems getting in or answers from doctors offices around here. They work with a top notch professional staff that is: knowledgeable, caring, and have developed processes designed to provide their patients with the most pleasant possible experience. Starting with the initial consultation; they walked through my medical history and clearly explained all the risks/benefits of the procedure, ensuring that I felt comfortable with it and my questions were answered. They provided very clear instructions for the pre-procedure cleansing preparations, and the medication that they prescribed consisted of two small bottles of a fluid that didn't taste bad at all. I was very relieved that there was no need to ingest large amounts of horrible tasting chemicals like some of my friends had to do when they had their colonoscopies. They also called me three days before the procedure to go through the preparation instructions one more time and answer any questions that I may have. The day of the procedure, I was amazed at how thorough they were with their checklists and processes to make sure everything went flawlessly. Patty, the preparation nurse, was amazing. You could tell that through her thirty years of experience she had developed the communication skills that allowed her to be thorough with her questions, clear about what was going to happen, and at the same time keeping me at ease before the procedure. Additionally, I also meet with the anesthesiologist and doctor Wetzel before the procedure. They really went the extra mile to ensure that I was comfortable and well informed. When I woke up from the anesthesia, I was surprisingly clear minded. They use a type of anesthesia that wears off very quickly and doesn't impair you for an extended time after you wake up. After the procedure, doctor Wetzel came over and shared with me the results of the colonoscopy with a comprehensive report that included pictures taken during the procedure. He walked me through the report and ensured that all my questions were answered. Overall, this was a great experience and I would recommend San Luis Gastroenterology to anybody as they operate under the highest quality standards with emphasis on providing the best possible experience for their patients.
