We also started off with the tuna tartare, soooo good. I got the squid ink pasta, while he got the fish. Everything tasted very fresh and flavorful, and service was wonderful. Nice place for brunch with a view. Came here for brunch and didn't get a window seat but that's ok. If you're able to get a window seat that faces Central Park, it's a nice view. It overlooks Columbus Circle and Central Park. I ordered the Challah French Toast and scrambled eggs. There was too much salmon roe for me on the eggs making the whole dish very salty but it was still good. I also wish they gave 4 toast points instead of 2. I asked for extra but they only gave me one. The french toast was too soggy for my liking but the flavor was good. I tried some of the Lobster Roll appetizer which was yummy. Overall a good spot for a brunch. The ambiance is lovely as there was a piano player and the shades were up. We requested a seat by the window but they weren't able to accommodate which is no big deal, they were able to seat us one row away from the window and that was even better for me. I ordered the burrata and the cheeseburger. The yucca fries are unique in texture and satisfyingly crunchy. The bun on the cheeseburger was a lot so I opted to only eat half of it. The burrata was creamy and went well with the balsamic caviar. We ordered the mango coconut panna cotta as well which was divine, would go back there just for that. It was also beautiful to look at! One star off because the service was not great -- it took a very long time to place our order for our entrees and our dessert, which kept us there for 2 hours. We were a 60th birthday party of 6 and the last time I was at Robert was 10 years ago. It was divine back then. What happened? (And full disclosure - I 'm a foodie who worked back of house in a fancy restaurant like this - but I maintain, food doesn't have to be fancy. It just has to be good). Halibut - at $39 - was criminally overcooked - resembled a dry chicken breast. You cannot serve one of the most premium fish varieties like this for that price. My friend and I were so dazed and confused by it as we traded bites we didn't think to wake up send it back - and we should have. It was clearly left to "sit" and overcook. Branzino - ok, filleted was good sans bones to worry about. But this fish works better a whole fish - because unlike say, buttery Chilean sea bass, it has that stringy snapper-like texture. Risotto - way too small. Sea scallops - 3 on a plate and 1 overcooked at over 10 bucks a piece. Desserts - were a total, unmitigated disaster. We should've just gone to Van Leeuwen across the road. While we appreciated the birthday dish of 6 squares of red velvet cake and a cream cheese frosting - the desserts proved they need a dedicated pastry chef. The pistachio brûlée was like a bad child's kitchen experiment. The blackberry cheesecake - more like a mauve mouse - just didn't work. The brownie was just a brownie. The only thing that was very good in the whole evening were the crispy fries and the $49 fillet steak - and it would want to be at that price. The server Chris - a brilliant photographer by the way - tried his best, was diplomatic to a fault and really sold us on the desserts. As he should - this is a business. But the kitchen let him down. I know how difficult is to run a business particularly a restaurant, but it astounds me how these kind of mistakes can happen at such a high-end location with very high rent. At this price point, you have to be good. I don't like to see businesses fail, but with this lack of attention to detail - which seems to stem from not visiting even casual excellent restaurants like C as in Charlie, Jun Men, Genesis House, Little Rubys (for their short rib pappardelle) - to experience the standard being served - a place like this should be doomed. It is lucky it is more of a tourist-type restaurant so probably benefits from getting a stream of visitors from outside New York. But the fact that it was half full and they still managed to overcook the fish - maybe that says everything. If you come perhaps order the $26 vegan zoodle dish, or 2 of the appetizers in lieu of a main - and maybe a vat of the mushroom soup amuse-bouche will save the day. I'm unsure of the appeal of this restaurant past the view. Unfortunately, you cannot eat a view. The worst part was the atmosphere; the place looked like a retro 1970s "hip" restaurant that, if you lived in a small town, everyone would say was "the nicest restaurant in town," but in reality, it was an incredibly old, tacky place that felt like it was trying too hard. They have no excuse to have colored, worn-out chairs with neon plastic decors. Now, since it is a restaurant, let's talk about the food. The salmon was effectively raw in the center despite it taking a long time, the house bread tasted store-bought and cold, and everything else just felt incredible mid. The service was not great either. We ordered a drink, and it arrived an hour later (still before our food, but an HOUR to make a salmon and steak?). We went at 4pm, so there were no excuses for the slow service; the place was empty. Jamie W. and I had tickets to see the jacked-up version of "The Music Man" starring Hugh Jackman, so we felt a need to eat something a cut above Papaya Dog before the show. I was web surfing when I came upon dining recommendations from not a renowned chef or an acknowledged foodie. They came from Fran Drescher. The Nanny. Yes, the lady in red when everybody else is wearing tan. I believe I've only seen her eat rugelach on her show, but she did a good job convincing me that Robert would be worth checking out. It's on the ninth floor of 2 Columbus Circle on top of the multi-level Museum of Art & Design appropriately initialized as MAD. Pretty wild exhibits. Even though I made a reservation just the day before, I had the unmitigated gall of requesting a window table facing the circle. When we arrived, I timidly asked if one was available, and the hostess led us to the last one facing the window, a mini-table abutted against the wall. But hell, Jamie and I didn't care because there was enough room for the two of us. Besides, we still had the same panoramic view that the more obviously anal pre-planners had at the nicer tables. We saw not only Columbus Circle, the former Time Warner (now Deutsche Bank) building, and several blocks of Columbus Avenue but also the Trump International tower. Blech. They offered a $44 lunch prix fixe, but before we considered our choices, we felt a need for cocktails. Jamie ordered the $18 Mad Manhattan even though he never had one before. I told him "Go brown or go home!" I didn't know what I meant. It was a potent mix of Woodford Reserve bourbon, orange bitters, vermouth, and Amarena cherries. In the middle of my entree, I asked the server if I could switch my dessert to the sorbet. My friend took me to ROBERT Restaurant on the 9th floor of the Museum of Art and Design, aka MAD MUSEUM, at Columbus Circle, to celebrate my birthday. She LOVES this restaurant and has spoken of it frequently. I can see why she loves it. This was my first visit to ROBERT, and I loved it from the moment the elevator doors opened on the 9th floor. The floor-to-ceiling window views, in a word: SPECTACULAR!! Day or night, for certain, SPECTACULAR. The INTERIOR DESIGN is close to my heart because the colors are some of my favs, and the design and look of the various seating areas are lovely. And now, about the food-- YUMMY!! It was a very warm summer day, so in the heat, I often have less of an appetite, which made the APPETIZER portions perfect. Small, but MIGHTY, with delicious flavor, and truly artful plating ( the way the food is displayed on the plate...that is what plating is). On the plate was a lovely salad greens mound, and still warm, just made, homemade potato chips!!! I Totally enjoyed each morsel on this lovely appetizer plate. And, it was just the right amount of food for me with my heat-reduced summer appetite. My friend had a drink, which she enjoyed, and she thought its name was Isabella. I look forward to another visit soon, I hope, because I'd like to try some other menu selections. The food was amazing, even with twenty people our courses all came out at the same time and it all was delicious. The restaurant is quite dim and a they had a gentleman playing the piano. Our server was beyond amazing. He found out we just got engaged and made our evening even more special. I had traditional and my husband had lobster. The Benedict is accompanied by a simple mixed greens salad that is lightly dressed. During a recent work trip, this restaurant was recommended by a colleague who has lived in the city over 20 years. It was amazing. It is on the 9th floor of the Museum of Arts and Design and overlooks Columbus Circle, Central Park, and of course the amazing NYC skyline. The floor to ceiling windows enhance the entire experience and the contrast of neon plastics within the restaurant itself made it all the more unique. My friend had had a work lunch at Robert and recommended it to me as a solid restaurant to take out of towners to. The view by the window is absolutely amazing. I originally had reservations at Robert on Father's Day and had even called them to secure a window table during prime dining time. But our plans changed and I had to move our dinner to the next day. They were super helpful and accommodating on the phone and tried their best to get me a window table. It all worked out in the end. I also left a bag at the table and they called me to let me know about it about 10 minutes after we had left. We were already on the D train, so I asked if we could come back the next day to pick it up and they were happy to hold it. Pick up was easy breezy. Now, onto the food. I had the tuna tartare appetizer and it was fab. For my main, I had the Amish chicken and it was so moist and juicy. Definitely a solid meal choice. For dessert, we split the bombolini that came with 3 different dipping sauces. They also brought out these little chocolate truffles with a candle for X when I told them we were celebrating his birthday early with his mom. So nice! The view cannot be beat. Besides my daughter planning a surprise Fri-Sun. trip from the West Coast for my mom's birthday celebration at a Greek restaurant in The BX, hubs and I treated our kid and her friend to a more relaxed 8pm dinner here later in the day. Located on the 9th floor of The Museum of Arts & Design, Robert has street view AND the Columbus Circle view everyone wants smacked-dabbed across from Central Park. The last is what you want to request for that panoramic scene. While Robert isn't sky-high in any regard, dining on the 9th floor and sitting by the street view side like we did, wasn't bad at all. I called and was told window seats of any kind were all booked- but still went ahead to reserve anyway. Elevator instantaneously opens up to the lounge with low tables and cushiony chairs if you want to start with a cocktail before you sit for dinner. You'll also notice those dinner tables facing the park that I so wanted be in. Let me not forget the piano guy tickling the ivories with tasteful tunes. Service is incredible. Thank you to Shirley(?) for working her magic and still sitting us by the window street view. Food was delicious down to desserts. And to that person who wrote that Robert "is not cheap", I'll disagree with that. I had a $34 Branzino dish (2 substantial fillets mind you) that was fantastic here. But I've also had a Branzino dish at other places that would run for 7 more dollars. Hubs got the $48 Petit Fillet Mignon in Medium here and loved it but has gotten it at other places way more than that. Get my drift? Or should I continue Mr. Cheap? I will say though, cocktails were at least $3-4 more than other places and desserts, were also a few coins more- but seriously though, you will not break the bank. Considering the location, I feel prices weren't completely outrageous. Except for the $27 Mushroom Risotto listed as a "Main Course" that I brought home and realize how tiny the portion was. Did they treat the "Main Course" Risotto as an appetizer? Why would they??? Did they skimp on portion because it was a take-out order??? Maybe. I'm dumbfounded even as I' think about it because that risotto was fully loaded with several types of mushrooms, creamy and jam-packed with earthy flavors. But listen..it's the location and food that make this such a find. read more

They don't skimp on the portion and give you enough for the price point. I highly recommend the Dorado. Really good lunch and loved that there was live piano playing. The pianist was such a rockstar. :D The mushroom soup was delicious and tasted like Michelin quality to me. I liked their bread and the GF bread that my friend requested wasn't bad for being GF! It was toasty and warm and had texture but I still much prefer the regular bread because it had more texture and taste. I was just very impressed by the gluten free bread and the heart they put into it since it was so nice and warm. We had the prix fixe menu. My friend got the chicken and I got the rigatoni. Both were so hearty. We were seated at a nice spot already but wanted to experience the window view later on. The waiters were so nice to let us swap seats and our main waiter gave us both cheesecakes and a complimentary sorbet (lavender + guava -- so refreshing!!) + two mini chocolate orangey cakes (I go crazy for Choco orange flavors!!). We stopped by here for lunch/brunch on Saturday, without a reservation but we were luck to get a table. We really wanted a table to overseeing the Central Park but they were all reserved by then. The restaurant is located in the building of museum of art and design. Once the elevator opens, you step into the restaurant. Decor inside is modern. The staff is friendly. Food is on the pricey side. The food presentation is great, like art. Roasted acorn squash-7/10; fresh but nothing very special. Octopus-9/10; very tender Burrata-9/10; very fresh Organic roasted chicken-8/10; flavorful. Chicken breast is not dry. Portion is large. Rigatoni-8/10; al dente, how I like it My friends said the soup and the burger are good too Passionfruit crème brûlée- 6/10. presentation doesn't resemble how traditional crème brûlée looks. It's on the sour side. I like the traditional crème brûlée better Raspberry pistachio cheesecake-8/10. Doesn't look like the usual cheesecake and it doesn't taste like the usual cheesecake. The texture is more like a mousse cake. The flavor is very good to me though. Definitely reserve a table to overlook Central Park if you're planning to try this place. read more

The ambience was fantastic, amazing NYC view, saturated and happy colors in the furniture, wonderful service and staff, esp Jose, our server. I went with 3 friends to celebrate the Chinese/Lunar New Year, and they gave us a quiet corner to celebrate and catch up! The food was fresh, delicious, innovative. Very interesting cocktails such as espresso martini and beautiful vie lilac! We ordered the Sunday menu - excellent market salad, yummy roasted acorn squash, tender juicy Cornish hen, delicious desserts! Would definitely return. I love a good view so this was the place for me! It was a bit difficult for me to find initially since its at the top of a building, however i was able to be guided to the space. It is a spacious restaurant with large windows that allow for excellent natural light and a beautiful view of the city. The service was not particularly the best since a member of our party did not mesh well with one of the waiters who came across unpleasant. However, overall the place was lovely and the food wasn't bad. I really enjoyed the burger with yuca fries and creme brulee. read more
