I find the review by Glenda R from Edinburgh (if that's true) to be inaccurate in many factors. You can down load the auction listings and always have been able to so. The web site was recently updated and this was one of the small issues that took time to rectify and now works and you have always been able to buy the listings and £1 does not a lot compared to some other places. I was the subject of the don't let the women beat you comment as well as the reverse to the other bidder when i was outbidding and both myself and the other bidder have know the auctioneer for many years and the friendly banter (chat for the eastern folk) causes no harm. I am not aware of the other comments being attributed and having only missed one general sale in the last six months have not heard anything attributed being said. While the toilets are no better or worse than many public toilets but they are are always clean at the start of the night and as I can't remember a dry night at the auction for many months, it does not take long for the floor to get wet and dirty from use. The catering is provided by by an external outlet and always has been. They have to meet the usual health requirements and like many such entities, provide fried as well as other cooked delights. The listings describe the goods as per the auction rules, it is always buyer beware, you should look and check. If it says it is new then in my experience it has been new and clarified at time the lot comes up for sale. As one part of the business relates to house clearance, what do you expect at a General Sale, the same as many other auction business in this market. People buy the "tatty and not new items " regularly so the must be something in it !!!!!!! I have been a customer for many years and have had no problems with any of the goods purchased. I have known the condition and bid accordingly and saved money in doing so, even where I have had to carry out repairs. There is plenty of viewing time available prior to the sale and if you don't use it then you have no complaint. Don't hide behind faceless comments like this if you have a problem speak to the business. read more

I find this establishment to be simply awful. Run by an auctioneer who behaves in a most bigoted manner, telling male bidders "oh don't let a women beat you" and other such delightful phrases. Modern conveniences have yet to reach Kinbuck and customers can endure the single disgusting stinking toilet which is accessed outside. Their listings are dodgy to say the least and items just seem to teleport between lots. There are some very nasty people running it, I witnessed them mocking and outing a transsexual customer to all and sundry when they didn't know the story of "the tranny" The catering comes recently fried from a decomposing old static caravan and the owners pets wander in and out of this area as well as the sale room so animal hairs come free. They used to provide their print out catalogue as a PDF so customers could easily come prepared to the sale with their prefered lots marked out-evidently there wasn't enough profit in that so it is now longer available on the website and you now can purchase the few sheets of a4 in the sale room at a much inflated price. The items are mostly house clearances after a death so stuff that is tatty and far from new but little in the way of antiques or of quality. If Scotland has a worse auction I'd like to see it. In addition to all that, given the dishonest practices this company shows in creating its own 5 star reviews across the net I dread to think the sort of tricks that go on behind the scenes in the sale rooms. How gullable do they think people are when they get a five star review from "Robertson" and "Robert," I mean come on."This is my second review attempt after them getting up to their usual amazing how the reviews with the same names as their staff members don't disappear. read more

I'm so glad I didn't read the negative reviews before going here two months ago because I would have missed out on such a fun and friendly auction experience- which me and my husband are hooked on every Thursday! Yes, it's not Sotheby's but if that's what you're looking for- go there! I personally find the entire team so friendly, genuine and helpful. Having a sense of humour helps ;-) We have been welcomed into the Robertsons 'family' from Day One and they will do anything to help everyone that goes. The porters are tireless and work very hard to get everyone's lots gathered and in the cars- not easy when there's regularly 400-500 lots! Bob and Kate are absolutely lovely and they should be proud of that place and how they run it. Fine dining, underfloor heating and fancy seats for all, ARENT what matter in an auction house- its fantastic 'lots', friendly and helpful staff, great banter and amazing buys on some wonderful items! So many people and friends have seen our 'buys' proudly displayed in our home and can't wait to visit themselves. The team are great, very professional, and cater to the buyer as well as the seller- let's face it, its tough getting the buyer and the seller the right price- I doubt we could all do that so 'easily' so don't underestimate that! Most of all- they have integrity. They are good, honest, lovely people who just happen to be passionate about antiques- as we all are, and they do it with a smile and a laugh- most people would think thats a good thing ;-) read more

Poor attitude to anyone who is not a dealer. You would think they were doing you a favour by taking in items, ie. only on a certain day if it's been booked in. I put in 10 boxes of books having phoned it in. They were all separated into different categories, ie. reference books, old books, novels, etc. only for them to be lumped together and put through as one lot. The price achieved was £10 and by the time commission, etc. came off we received the grand total of £7.93. Not a bad day's earnings for a day off work to drop off when convenient to them, and a 70 mile round trip. Someone got a bargain that day. Watch out for stuff that comes to life and jumps between boxes. Another one of their favourites is that if you leave a bid you very seldom get it cheaper than the bid you've left. I've had boxes all piled up in a corner, stuff missing out of them, stuff broken that wasn't before and shoddily covered up as in wrapped to conceal. I have to agree this guy's attitude stinks. He should take himself and his staff to a professionally run auction saleroom and see how it should be done where you're treated with respect and you can also bring stuff in on viewing days if you are travelling a long journey. It really is a cold, damp dingy place and that's in the summer! The facilities we won't even talk about. Toilets 1 out of 10, burgervan 2 out of 10. All in all the whole place 2 out of 10 and that's me being generous. Guess who won't be back. read more

My wife and I came across Robertsons in Kinbuck when we were hunting for antiques to furnish a new (large) house in early Jan '13. I have been to a few auction rooms before but never to one as friendly and helpful as this one. the staff are great efficient and helpful and courteous. The auction room porters have to be amongst the friendliest guys we have ever met. They are always happy to lift heavy items and have been patient when we have had to arrange transport for larger items storing the furniture for us without any quibble. This is not Christie's !! its a well run, family run, business and that 'family touch' shines through as you get a really good 'personal' feel and soon become part of the 'family' if you attend regularly. Some people have commented on the 'manner' of the auctioneers but personally i find them to be funny, entertaining and genuinely freindly whilst at all times trying to keep the auction professional and efficiently run. They sometimes have to get through over 600 lots in a 4-hour auction ! no mean feat! Who wants to have an automaton as an auctioneer?! Two different types of sales a general sale and antique sale ensure there is something for everyone and with a hot food van outside serving cheap and cheery fare, its just what you need to warm you on a cold winters night bargain hunting. keep up the good work Bob and Kate and entire team. read more

I Wish There were Minus Star Ratings. This Joint Certainly Would Get them. This is the worst run business I have ever been to. The Guy who's on the podium thinks hes a Joker. I have news for him. Hes the Joke. An Absolute Fool and this Guy Runs an Undertaking Business. First of all you Have him Come on as The Main act with his Racist and Anti Female Jokes and Rude Attitude. Then Act Two Half Way Through The Auction His Mother Comes on Looking Like Shes Just been Standing By The Cauldron .This Auction House is a Fire Hazard and I have written formally to the Chief Fire Officer Making Complaints. The Items They Sell Are Pretty Dodgy. They Sell Off The Wall and if You Leave a Bid You get it Normally at That Price if you Get it at all.The Zoo at Kinbuck is awful. Dogs and Cats Running Around The Auction and I Once Saw a Rat Running Around The Boxes of Tat and When I mentioned what I had seen I was Told Its ok Its a Pet!!!Food From The Greasy Spoon is Terrible. Cheap and Nasty. There is Dodgy and Underhand Dealing Taking Place in The Car Park .It the Ideal Place to send your junk to. I have attended this place for over 15 years on and off and think its dreadful but they do sell lots of crap at cheap prices if you like picking up soiled boxes I bought boxes from them and they were soaking wet . I do not recognise the previous reviews as a true reflection of Robertsons of Kinbuck, which we have been using for over 20 years. Robertsons is a local auction house in Central Scotland which reflects the local culture and people. Certainly, the auctioneers are direct and robust in their sales 'patter' but this enhances the atmosphere and is never directly offensive. The staff are always helpful and willing to go out of their way to lift, carry or advise on sale items or prices. The facilities have been refurbished and are bright and clean. The 'diner' serves simple, wholesome food such as, sandwiches, bacon rolls and soup rather than anything fancy. The purpose of the auction house is to sell items and Robertsons does this magnificently. It fulfils extremely well the difficult role of re-cycling items which would normally end up as landfill following house clearances as well as identifying and offering fortnightly antique sales. It is in these sales that many high quality pieces and bargains are found. I recommend Robertsons and its staff both as an excellent place to find bargains but also as a different experience from the politically correct, characterless alternatives! read more

The catalogue is available to download in Word. Or you can buy a copy for £1.00 - which is cheaper than other auctions I've been to. There are two loos - one for males and one for females. They are clean at the start of sales and they are clean on viewing days. Yes, many of the lots are from house clearances so the lots are a mixed bunch but there is no pretence about that and damage is often declared by the auctioneer but, as in all auctions, you need to assess the items for yourself. The main autioneer has a hearing problem so he finds noise distracting. Therefore he necessarily demands quiet and is quite abrupt about that but needs must sometimes as the punters chatter on. Otherwise it is a friendly place and I have only ever found the staff ever amiable. A cat does tend to be present on auction day and dogs are let in an out by customers on viewing days but the dogs are neither intimidating nor too familiar. The catering is just a mobile caravan but the homemade soup is good and there are wholesome sandwiches if you want to avoid cheese burgers and bacon butties. All adds to the atmosphere of a good Scottish country auction. read more

I have been a customer of Robertsons of Kinbuck for over fifteen years,and take issue with some of the recent comments posted on this site.Granted the occasional borderline humour from the direction of the rostrum (much earthier on the floor),but by no means a bigot.The toilets are always clean before the auction starts,but as the night wares on i am sure they are subject to the occasional person who misses the seat,but do you expect the auction to cease while they are cleaned?.To call the people who run the auction "nasty people"is a slur,i frequently leave bids and find that commision bids are carried out fairly and more importantly, honestly which is a rare commodity in the UK auction trade,i have never witnessed hopping between lots,pay more attention to the proceedings is my advice,and no they don't cater for vegetarians,but you can always do what i do,take a flask.In short if you want Bonhams stay in Edinburgh. read more

Unstuffy, friendly country saleroom auctioning both antique and collectables and general household items in alternating weekly sales. We've always found something of interest or necessity here and found the staff very helpful when needed. It is always very busy on sale nights but we've always managed to squeeze in! The banter doesn't offend us, it just adds to the atmosphere and is generally taken in good part by the crowd. Its not perfect, it is in the country so in winter the roads are dark and the 2 salerooms aren't large enough for a dedicated seating area or cafe. However on the plus side the buyers premium is a lot less than the bigger, fancier salerooms and with over 500 lots every week there is always something that catches your eye at an affordable price! We've both bought and sold here for many years and never had a problem or found the staff to be anything less than honest and friendly. read more

I can't understand the bad reviews. The auction house itself is set in an idyllic location, on the banks of a river. The auctioneer , Bob , is a hoot!....... time passes quickly as he has amusing remarks and the son is also very entertaining .The porters are young lads who are charming and will carry out goods to the car if requested. One lad even explained the silver hall markings to me which I really appreciated. I go to other auctions and they and they are cold , joyless , and not a patch on Robertsons. There is even a little snackbar , with mother and daughter serving a wide range of breakfast rolls , salads , home baking etc and they could not be friendlier .I go on my own so its nice to have someone to chat to. Finally , I have bought some very good bargains . One Wednesday I was so excited with my buys ( Mappin and Webb cutlery) that I took the wrong road home ! A.C. read more

Well I was nearly put off by all the negativity in the reviews on this page, but my wife and I decided to try anyway on Thur 31st January 2013. As far as we were concerned, yes at first it might seem a bit crammed in, but we werent there to sit, from the outset the staff were polite and helpful, the Gentleman you are refering to was trying to offer lots so naturally he wanted people to be quiet so that the lots were heard by everyone, all in all we were both wondering if it was the same auction as described on this page. As in all things some people just want it all ways and I for one hope that this place stays as it is with atmosphere, banter and characters. read more

Great place if you're looking for a bargain, I've been buying stuff there for years and never had any problems like others say - if something was missing or misplaced it's only customers to blame for not the staff. The auctioneer's comments might be a bit edgy but only to those who have no sense of humour - i usually just laugh it off like you're supposed to. The only "zoo" animals I've noticed was a beautiful cat that sleeps most of the time not bothering anyone. All in all I wouldn't fault the place much, ladies in the office are always nice and lads are very helpful - they'll even load your van for you if need be! read more

I've bought and sold at this auction house for around 7years. I've always found it a pleasant and honest place of business. There are no "wall" bids and whether you are buying or selling you get a straight deal. The auctioneer can be a bit touchy at times, but that adds to the atmosphere. Can't believe some of the bad reviews, obviously written by someone with a grudge, or little understanding of auctions. read more

Having been to just about every Scottish auction house in the last 10 years on a weekly basis I can tell you that Robertsons is indeed one of the best. Its friendly, honest quick and has a great selection of goods. The banter is terrific and you can get a bite to eat and parked nearbye. Great porters too. read more
