Slightly homesick for Scotland, I was so keen to stock up on square sausage, tattie scones and some Scottish smoked salmon. Sadly they do not stock Scottish smoked salmon but there is a small selection of other types of smoked fish. The square sausage- I don't even know what that was but it certainly wasn't the square sausage I've become accustomed to eating the past couple of years. Brown, texture too smooth and not fatty enough it tasted like sausage but did not have enough rusk in it, and the colour just wasn't right. The tattie scones were ok but I also bought my partner a pack and he reported his was inedible had left an awful aftertaste. Mine was fine, quite bland but they're scones made out of potato- so yes, they're not exactly super flavourful. There's a selection of grocery items from the UK that I would come back for but everything else was a bust. If there are any other stores in Melbourne that do square sausage please let me know fellow yelpers, as I certainly won't be coming back here for it. read more

The produce is good the staff are friendly but it's a totally disorganised shambles. Truly they don't know their arse from their elbow. I do like it here but every time I pre order there is a stuff up or they are not ready something is missing. They have no system no checks and balances and I think they do so well they don't need to provide exception customer service. It's just an ooops and a shrug of the shoulder. Plus I think they will never read this review. read more
This is my first butcher review? Despite the fact that I'm not so much the ravenous carnivore that I once was, This store is still worth a look, if merely for interest's sake. They stock a wide Range of meats, bacon, sausages, and other British styled meats. It pays homage to the older style way of things and also the comfort food too. Everything is made on site, and there's a grand array of pasties, and similar other baked treats. Don't forget about your sweet treats too. Soda's fizzy drinks, sweets, and other good for the sweet tooth lie here. It's quite an interesting little shop and one of a dying breed. read more

I would not recommend Robs. Placed an order for Xmas and well within the time allowed. When I went to pick it up they had no sausages ( I had ordered 48 ) and I got a ham that was not marinated when I had ordered a marinated ham. I then had to take the bacon that was for the sausages which obviously is. It really required. I heard 3 other peopem whilst I was there being told their order couldn't be filled as they had no sausages and one lady was missing a veal and ham pie. Terrible customer service to let down customers who clearly shop there throughout the year. Terrible organisation. The girl who served me blamed the butcher for not supplying enough but the shop advertises Rob as the butcher so why did he not make enough sausages to cover the orders taken. read more

I went to this place excited to taste flavours from my homeland, spending over $80 on Cheshire cheese, pork pies, pork scratchings, black pud, haggis and Suffolk bacon. The scratchings were tough a barely edible, the pork pies were ok but the pastry was pretty poor, the cheese was mouldy so inedible, the haggis we have thrown on the lawn and one of the foulest things I have ever experienced, black pud was ok and the bacon remains to be eaten, overall very poor indeed I will not be going back there. read more

I am a long term expat who has bought Scottish fare from a few suppliers over the years. Rob's, to my knowledge, is one of only two that I am aware of in Victoria, the other being Mowatt's in Sunbury. I live in Altona, so Dandenong is a long way for me to travel for my favourite Scottish food. However, I have been happy with Rob's for many years...until now! I agree with a previous reviewer that the Scottish Lorne Sausage at Rob's has changed. It is virtually sausage mince in its consistency now and just isn't the same anymore. I also tried to purchase Scotch Pies recently only to find out that they hadn't been making them for a while. I was told to ring in a fortnight as it was expected supplies would be available then. Having just rung, I was now told that they don't know when the pies will be made and to ring again in week's time. This company could do with a shake-up in terms of its customer service. If management can't maintain supply of its products and the quality of the produce then it is best to leave the business to someone who can. As a retailer of over 40 years I know the impact of taking customers for granted. I also agree that the shop needs a makeover; apart from anything else the t/towels etc pinned around the shop are far from clean. read more
