Misleading pricing - the true cost of tri tip was $25 a pound! have been shopping at Rocca's for years -- and have loved it. However I have a suggestion - because the cost of the tri tip is misleading and I paid almost $20 for marinade!: Try to bulk marinade your tri tip and then sell it at its real price -- OR be more transparent about the actual size and cost of the tri tip. Today I bought a tri tip -- @ $15/lb. I thought I was getting a 3.5 pound tri tip @ $51.50. However, when I weighed it at home, the tri tip it was only 2.3 pounds. The marinade was 18 ounces!... so paid approximately $17 - a third of my cost - for something I couldn't use. The TRUE cost of the tri tip was approx. $25 a pound. So I paid almost $20 for marinade which you can't really use... I have never had this issue before -- with such a copious amount of liquid. read more

I have been in here a few times before. It is a great little neighborhood market with a legendary meat counter. In the past I have purchased pre-marinated tri-tips, and they were okay. My marinated tri-tips are better, in my opinion. But I went in a few days looking for a nice Porterhouse steak, and they had them! I purchased a 1.8 pound porterhouse and grilled it. Truly one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Thank you, Rocco's, for having excellent meat, excellent service, and not rude like a counterpart in Gilroy. Nothing ordinary about this gourmet market and this place is not cheap. But you get what you pay for. They sell high quality, excellent cuts of meats and I believe even have their own line of wines. There is a nice array of marinades, rubs and spices, for do it yourself meat marinade and pre-marinaded meats. The Santa Maria rub is outstanding and their prime rib.... The most tender I've had. I suggest pairing the two because it's excellent! They also carry high quality farm fresh chicken and some fish as well. First time we have been here and we will return for special occasions. This is our "corner market", but it is so much more. They carry almost anything you need grocery-wise, but the most impressive thing is their meat counter. They have all sorts of custom meats - tri tips, steaks, chops, sausage (that they make) and more. They also have a deli, which makes amazing sandwiches. This place is a hidden gem. Prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for. The main reason I go is the meat counter. 1. Great selection of sausages they make in-house. 2. Great marinated tri-tips. I like the Santa Maria and Bloody Mary ones the best. 3. The marinated chicken breasts are excellent. When cooking, they stay moist and have a great flavor! 4. They have various cuts of steak which are really good. I got a porterhouse last time that was excellent. I always grab a package of Roxeanne's biscotti when I'm there. Stopped in day before Thanksgiving to pick up a couple of Gizdich pies and some rolls. The staff was friendly and plenty of parking. However, the pies were so dry!! We bought 2 apple pies and they were terrible!! The rolls were moldy by Friday, the day after Thanksgiving!!?? I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the pie and rolls! I try to support small businesses anywhere I can. I bought several meats from them (some as exotic as crocodile tail....DELISH btw). But the woman who helped me pick out a steak for my mom's birthday was spot on. It was the BEST steak I ever had. So tender it was like a roast that had been sitting in a crockpot for 8 hours. Hope you guys survive the "storm" we're in right now. UPDATE: April 2021 I was evicted from my home I've lived in for over years. I'll be missing all my Bay Area favs and I'm planning on probably relocating back home to the Midwest. There's ZERO diversity and originality in their restaurants or retailers in that area. I'm going to be sad to move all the good places California has offered me over these decades, but my family wants me back and with the climbing prices on housing it's the best choice. Hard times.. scary times. Writing this review during the Covid 19 pandemic. My reviews have been skimp because I super stalked before the shelter in place came to effect. But now, I'm running low on some necessities so I am very thankful for Rocca's Market. No need to go to the overcrowded high traffic grocery stores chains. Rocca's has everything I need. They follow social distancing which I appreciate, and have signs all over the place. One of the staff members is at the door to control the amount of people coming in. As scary as it is going out nowadays, all these extra precautions taken by Roccas, I do feel comfortable going out. They have fresh vegetables and a fantastic meat selection. Picked up some tritip, pork belly, and sausages. They also carry Mariannes ice cream, local honey... and guess what, they have flour!!! Thank you Roccas read more

WOW! Never been here, but only heard great things. Loved the selection of local wines. I would have loved to see Calerrain at the market. Perfect for the huge selection of meat. Their Malbec and the steak makes my mouth water. I was unsure what to expect. I stayed on the safe side since I had just gone grocery shopping. Tonight I made the garlic sausage. Amazing!! I will go back and get so much more: marinated chicken, wine marinated beef, Bloody Mary marinated beef, bacon, breakfast sausage and fish. Lots of great spices and honey offered. The only local bread is from Watsonville. The rosemary loaf looked great, but there was a hole in the bag. Went with their sourdough. I'm completely and utterly addicted. Like a fat kid loves cake you can drop one of these marinated tri-tips on my barbi any day. I love 'em all. From the wine and spice, to the holy hell- Bloody Mary, to the peppered and then the honey teriyaki you can't go wrong with any one of 'em.... and that's just the tri-tips.
