Prenatal appointments are thorough and not rushed, and care is all encompassing beyond just the growing baby. Postnatal care is frequent and truly feels like care, rather than a checklist. Beyond their care alone, the midwives create a beautiful community not only during the prenatal period but long after. We love each of the midwives and feel so lucky to know them and been under their care. I'd recommend the M.A.M.A.S. care team to anyone looking for compassionate, evidence based care, whether for home birth or well women's care.

MAMAS is an out-of-network practice for many, and I wish there were more guidance offered about how to navigate the insurance hurdles. Admin staff is only part-time and many of my emails went unanswered. I asked a lot of questions in person as well, and I didn't receive some key information about gap exceptions that would have made the process less stressful. As expected, I received only a small reimbursement from my insurer, and it took several months of emails and calls for MAMAS to realize they had received the check from my insurer and forward it to me.

We were so incredibly lucky to get connected to Katrina. She worked with us to evaluate if we were good candidates for home birth and then helped us transition to a home birth plan... on a VERY tight timeline. She came to my house for a prenatal visit and I swear that one appointment seemed like more actual medical care than I received in the rest of my pregnancies put together. Having someone actually focused just on you and your baby - with plenty of time to get to know you and no other distractions or pressures - is an amazing experience. I wish I'd switched a lot earlier. The birth itself was... let's say full of surprises (: I don't want to go into too much detail, but I do want to say that I am deeply, profoundly grateful that Katrina was there, and will be for the rest of my life, and so will my baby when she's old enough to know the story. Katrina's calm expertise and focus supported our entire family. Having the postpartum visits at home was also wonderful, vs. having to cart myself and baby around town while still recovering from birth. Even though we ended up at the hospital after the birth (probably unnecessary in hindsight!) I'm so glad I got to give birth at home. It's definitely better; I can't imagine ever planning a hospital birth again. Thank you.

Katrina is extremely knowledgeable and always had an answer or suggestion for any question I had, so throughout my pregnancy and before my labor I trusted I was in good hands. She also really took her time with me during every appointment and call, which I SO appreciate. I have been a patient for other practitioners which whom I've felt like a number to them, or with whom I felt rushed because they were overbooked or overwhelmed. Not with Katrina. She always felt grounded, calm, present, and took really good care and attention with me. During labor her energy was super grounded and calm, as well, which was so helpful. And I also really appreciate how she took the time to educate me on certain things post birth, like the placenta's "tree of life" and the umbilical cord, etc. These are the special care and extra attention that you get with Katrina that you may not get elsewhere and definitely don't get at the hospital. I highly recommend working with her as your midwife.

He had a debilitating skin condition that many other providers could not figure out the root cause of. When we walked in to her office, my son had a debilitating skin condition from head to toe, was not yet crawling, and had a feeding tube. From the moment I met her, her vibe was extremely warm and understanding. I broke down in her office and for the first time felt HEARD. It was a season full of fear and frustration for me, as a first time mom. And after the experience I had with many medical providers in the mainstream medicine world, she was a breath of fresh air. She took on my son's case as if it was so own baby. We worked out a protocol and began the journey to healing my son. By, only, God's grace and Dr. Parker's heart and gift to help patients heal, within about 2-3 weeks of meeting with her; my son began to show SO much improvement. I was able to add other alternative medicine providers to his protocol, which also assisted his healing. By the time he was 3 and a half, my son was growing beautifully. As he should have been. Dr. Parker, personally, not only helped me to help my son but also helped me mentally, emotionally, and physically as a first time mom. Her support was extremely valuable. And till this day still is. I learned a lot from her. She holds such a special place in my heart & for my family. She is family.

As a past hospital administrator I knew I didn't want to have my son in a hospital. I was going to a birthing center at first, but I found Dr. Parker and knew I wanted to switch to her. When I got pregnant the second time she was the first person I called to make sure her schedule was open. I loved having her spirit in the room while I was birthing and felt so comfortable as she automatically wore a mask as my second child was a COVID baby.

They put the patient first and offer great knowledge in support of empowering their patients. I think midwives have a great track record of excellent health outcomes for both mother and baby. I have had the pleasure of meeting many of the midwives at prenatal visits and during labor/delivery and have found them to consistently be kind, gentle, and incredibly capable. Deciding who we trusted to deliver our two babies and protect my wife's health was one of the most important healthcare decisions we have ever made. I am so thankful for this midwife practice and highly recommend it!

At every appointment there was time to ask as many questions and bring up any concerns I was having. The midwives, medical assistants and front desk staff were always attentive and made appointments easy. People always joke that the later appointments of pregnancy are so quick but I feel like the time spent was just as long as the first ones because we went over EVERYTHING down to what to pack in the hospital bag. They even have a nice booklet that tracks what each appointment will be about. I will be continuing my women's health care with the team because of the great experience I had during my pregnancy. A very special thank you to Jessie and Margaret. You both made this journey very enjoyable!

Ensuring that I could have an unmedicated and peaceful birth experience was very important to me in choosing a care provider. The office experience: The front-desk staff is incredibly friendly. When you're not feeling your best, it's always nice to be greeted by a welcoming and smiling face. Also, scheduling and getting paper work signed was a breeze. The same goes for the nursing staff -- incredibly attentive and helpful. Appointments: Appointments are on-time and never feel rushed. The midwives are very knowledgeable and take their time to address all of your questions and concerns. When I was considering hiring a doula and a chiropractor for some pelvic pain -- each time the midwives had great recommendations. Also -- I called the midwives' on-call line a couple times during my pregnancy and each time they were able to answer my questions thoroughly and settle any nerves or concerns I had. The birth experience: I saw both Tara and Kelly at Shady Grove when I went into labor. Kelly ended up catching my baby and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. Not only were my birth plan requests honored by both the midwives and the nursing staff -- but Kelly helped to create a peaceful and supportive birthing environment. I've never felt more empowered and was able to deliver my baby unmedicated. You should absolutely consider the midwives at MCA, if you are wanting a natural, no/low-intervention experience. Thank you to Kelly, Tara, Jodi and Janet for all of your help and support during my pregnancy!

From the start, I felt like they weren't really sure what they were doing. At 8 weeks, I went in for a confirmation/dating scan. I had let them know I had been tracking and I was very sure of ovulation date, etc. She sort of dismissed me and said that the baby was dating 7 weeks. I thought it was odd, especially since I ovulated late, but I just accepted it for the moment. I also mentioned that I had hypothyroidism and she was like, "Oh so you want me to check thyroid levels?" I was like of course! Shouldn't that be standard for pregnancy anyway? I had my standard blood draw and waited. And waited. Almost 2 weeks went by and no one had called me with results. In the past, I had my results and immediate action within 2 days, so this was bad. Meanwhile, I felt oddly cold, so I called the office to get my results. They casually told me that my TSH level was 12 (when it should be under 2.5)! I was very angry and said, so are you going to prescribe me medication, and they said no it wasn't a big deal. In talking to endocrinologists as well as other midwives and obstetrics, I confirmed that yes it is in fact a big deal and can lead to a miscarriage. My previous midwife and an obstetrician friend said that what this practice was doing was very wrong and they should absolutely take it seriously. I kept calling, letting them know this was a potential emergency and they kept brushing me off. I immediately went to Urgent Care where they gave me a prescription. I couldn't see an endocrinologists for 2 weeks, and at that time they felt my levels were still way too high and bumped up my dosage. She seemed to agree that it was dangerous. Well, around 12 weeks I went to Maternal Fetal Medicine where they confirmed that the baby had died around 8 weeks. Midwifery Care Associates of course assumed no partial responsibility in this. They should have flagged the measuring small from the start. Then they should have acknowledged a thyroid issue. I am convinced that if I had gone anywhere else they would have flagged it from the very start. Perhaps the baby couldn't be saved, but at least someone would have noticed something was wrong. I am now pregnant again in a different state and can see the HUGE difference at the level of care at 8 weeks. This practice is an absolute joke and they have no idea what they are doing. If you are pregnant, please seek care somewhere else.

SSD has TENS units for clients and I got to use one for this birth (no idea if it helped but so glad to try it out!). The community classes are informative. I went into labor at 2:30 in the morning and Rose joined us shortly afterwards. She knows what signs mean your labor is progressing and what might be helpful in reducing pain and when you need to leave for the hospital, and she knows how to let your body lead the labor. At the hospital, Rose advocated for us to make sure we had the care we needed (e.g.: the hospital was understaffed and we were left alone and I was in no state to ask where on earth our medical team was when I was pushing). Pretty sure I'm done after kid #2 but if we do have any more we will definitely be asking SSD to join us again.

As a first time mom, it was wonderful to have their expertise and level-headed approach to pregnancy and childbirth throughout the journey - and lord knows I had a million and one questions. They are both knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely lovely people to know and work with. Rose was the doula in attendance at my birth and her presence was so calming and appreciated. She came to our house during early labor when I was unsure of how the process was going. And from the house to the hospital, she was with us every step of the way. In the hospital, she had lots of supplies with her to support my L&D, including a much used hot water bottle that made those first few hours more bearable. And when the doctors said my son was "sunny side up," Rose helped moved me into different positions and did adjustments to help encourage baby to change position (which he did!!). She held my hand (and my leg ) during 3 hours of pushing and reminded me often to breathe, made sure I was drinking water, and reminded me to relax when possible. Truly, I could not have done it without her. It was amazing to have someone looking out for me in the L&D room. As as added bonus, she took photos when our son was born which are really special to have. Although I think I'm a "one and done" type person with my son, if I were to have another child, I would engage Jenny and Rose again for their services in a heartbeat!
