Hidden history, hometown pride, and one very cool rocket ship!…read more After finishing my visit to the Edmond Historical Museum, I stepped outside and realized Stephenson Park was literally next door. Since it was such a beautiful Oklahoma day, I decided to spend some time exploring--and I'm glad I did. This isn't just another neighborhood park. Everywhere you look there's a little piece of Edmond's history. I especially enjoyed reading about the famous Rocket Ship Slide, a playground icon that generations of Edmond kids remember. While the original slide has been retired, the restored rocket display is a wonderful tribute to the park's past. The new playground is outstanding, with plenty of room for children to climb, play, and burn off energy. The walking paths, shade trees, benches, and open green space make it just as enjoyable for adults who simply want to relax. As a retired Air Force veteran, I was especially touched by the "Peace" military monument honoring the men and women who have served our country. It was a meaningful reminder that parks can preserve memories as well as provide recreation. I also noticed the park hosts Thursday evening concerts, and after seeing the setting, I already know I'll be back when the weather cools down. Whether you're visiting the museum, traveling through Edmond, or simply looking for a peaceful place to spend an hour, Stephenson Park is well worth the stop. Sometimes the best attractions are the ones you discover by accident.

The walk along the Bricktown Canal near Chickasaw Plaza is one of those hidden gems that's easy to…read moremiss if you're just rushing through downtown. The path is lined with stone markers and engraved history panels, including the "Ancient Mississippian Symbols" display, which gives you a glimpse into the Indigenous cultures that were here long before Oklahoma became a state. It's a nice mix of art, history, and scenery -- you've got the canal water, public sculptures, and these quiet little stops that make you slow down and actually read what's in front of you. The statues and carvings nearby add a lot of presence to the space without feeling overly crowded or touristy. Overall, it's a peaceful and interesting walk that feels more meaningful than your average city path. Worth taking your time with if you're in Bricktown and want something a little more reflective than just restaurants and nightlife.

All around the perimeter are plaques that tell of Chickasaw history. On our way to the Centennial Oklahoma land rush monument we saw this across the canal. There's a sports complex, a playscape known as Kidspace, is famous for its castle style playground. They also offer many walking trails picnic areas and restrooms. It's great year-round for casual visits, but especially busy with big events like the Medieval Fair, Norman Fourth Fest (July 4th fireworks), and Brewtoberfest.

There's wildlife to see such as squirrels and birds, and you can even see some turtles in the little stream. A lot of people like to go walking early in the morning because it's a lot cooler and I would agree with that. There's ample parking in multiple lots. There's also two dog parks one for small dogs and one for larger dogs. Everyone usually abides by all the dog rules, except I do notice dog poop along the walking trail sometimes and people are leaving it and not picking it up. Walking through the trees is really nice. There's a couple benches along the way so if you get tired, wanna sit down, you can do so. On the other side of the park near the swimming pool there are basketball courts and tennis courts. They have children's play areas as well.

You can see some pretty greenery in the spring and summer. There's a little stream and a walking bridge that you can go over. There's a dog park for small dogs and big dogs. Sometimes I notice people in the small dog park with large dogs, so we are not able to go in. Little annoying. Most of the people do not pick up their dog's poop along the trail. They even placed a pecan sheller for those tht harvest them. The trail winds thru the trees and behind done neighborhoods. This section is approximately 2+ miles and winds along soldier creek. Description: The OU Duck Pond inside Brandt Park runs the length of the park to the north and south on the western side. The park has numerous trees and a large grassy area, mostly on the eastern side. It's extremely peaceful and tranquil. There are a few benches close to the pond and a stone walking bridge across the pond. The pond has moss over a portion of it, making it look like an English countryside. The main attraction is, of course, the ducks and the pond. The ducks are sharing it with the geese, who at times can get out of hand; as one was running after two of it's own when they came onto land into his space. History: The Park was named after the sixth President of OU, Joseph August Brandt, who was the only alumnus to serve as President. Was driving by and it's a nice day so decided to check out the lake. It's a nice little lake set…read moreback behind done businesses. If you are not paying attn you will miss the sign. There is active fishing, playscape, pavilion and numerous Punic tables and grills. There is no overnight camping as the park closes every night. There is also no swimming allow. It has a nice walking trail around the lake measuring just over a mile.
