Last night KTSU 90.9 FM hosted its 2nd Annual Christmas Party. KTSU members got in free, non members $25.00. Live entertainment was Mary Griffin and DJ was Chilli Bill Smith. It's been years since I've attended anything at Rockefellers. The place is as I remembered it. Cozy, warm ambiance with great acoustics. A great place to bring a date for a good show. This space is so beautiful, I fell in love with it upon first viewing on the interweb. My reception site search began about 14 months ahead of the big day and I used wedding magazines to find venues - they often have lists of vendors, including reception sites, grouped by location and include capacity and price ranges. I was looking for a place in a central location that wasn't a hotel or Kim Son ballroom for my inter-ethnic wedding reception seating ~150. Bonus points for being a historic site. We started off looking around downtown, but nothing quite fit or was a lil too small. So we moved outward and found Rockefeller Hall, booking it in May for the following April. It was initially a bank in the early twentieth century and later became a concert hall. The pictures on the website are an accurate representation of how the space looks. The office is located is what was the vault and the original marble flooring remains, revealed in part as the dance floor. There is a split-level which I thought added to the uniqueness and charm. It comfortably fits up to about 300 people. The space is run by a couple of sisters. They are definitely professionals who have organized a lot of events. However, it was difficult at times to contact them. They have an email address and a phone number, but there were many days in which my fiance and I felt like we were playing phone/email tag with them. They have a floral service on the side and it took them like 6 weeks after our floral meeting to send me an estimate during the summer because one woman went away on vacation with her kids, but didn't tell me this. The place is kind of expensive. There is a fee to book the space, which was cheaper than a few other places we considered. Then you have to use their required caterer (Abuso) and bar packages (flat rates/person, no "by consumption" or bring/buy your own booze). Then you have to consider security and valet. My parents kept complaining that we could have spent this kind of money at a Viet restaurant and gotten beef and seafood instead of the chicken entree we chose. So we scrimped on other details and negotiated the best we could on the rest. In the end, it was a classy, elegant reception that went very smoothly with the help of the reception site manager and DJ and caterer. The day before the reception, we dropped off a box of decorations like our guestbook and display photos and candies and things for the florist. They took care of all that for us. Even though the gift table was by the door, the valet guys and security ensured no unwanted guests walked in off the street. I will say that the valet guys may have relaxed on the security a bit by helping the groomsmen find the groom's car and let them decorate it with toilet paper, plastic wrap, hot dogs, and shoe polish. We got tons of compliments about the space and the food and the guests all looked like they were having a good time. It was an awesome place to hold a medium-sized wedding reception. read more

Went there for the recent skyrocket there one of my favorite party bands I try to see them when I come to Houston. Pros: clean club lots of parking options room to dance I think because there are two levels and people can spread it around. Cons: Sound was terrible and I think skyrocket is very diligent in doing their sound checks so there must be something out of whack with theAcoustics in that place. Ridiculous amount of wait time to get a drink was a major turn off. read more

The pictures on yelp make this place look huge, in reality it's actually a very small venue. My friend has his ceremony here, not the reception, so my review can only be of that. The venue itself is decent, but from the price I heard definitely not worth it. The biggest minus about this place is the parking situation. Basically you are forced to valet. Even then there are only so many spots. So if you actually expect people to go to the ceremony and not just the reception hold your wedding somewhere else. read more

Would give it 0 stars if I could. Tickets said doors at 7 for Porter. No opener and main band ends up not coming on til 10 and we're told to move from our table on the balcony that we've been at for 2 hours. We move, but see that people start standing where we were previously sitting. End up going back and get told to move by some small-d*ck bouncer that's easily got 1 foot and 200 lbs on me. I explain the above and he yells "the band said move, now GO!" and laughs. I was respectful in the interaction up til that point. His reaction was uncalled for and just downright abhorrent. First time at this venue and won't be going back. Bartender was super friendly and attentive. Hope he leaves that place. read more

I came here for Second Coming since my best friend was performing as a DJ. It was a fun event. A cute little bar and ample space to see and be seen. The acoustics were pretty great and management seemed to have everything under control whilst running smoothly. It's a great place to showcase your work that you may be selling as well as a quaint hub to see new artists and new works. I definitely would come back and would love to go to another event. I'm excited to see this space grow. read more

I was recently a guest here for a company party attended by roughly 200 people. Like most, when I heard "Rockefeller Hall" I imagined a large venue. Though the space is gorgeous with it's pillars, ambient lighting, and old-world architectural design, it is definitely much, much smaller than the pictures on the website would lead you to believe. Upon entering the iron gates, there is a small receiving area that was used to check in for our party. To the right stairway leading to the second floor, the hall provided complimentary coat check. The space itself was decorated very simply (white linens on tables, candles, etc) but tastefully while a live band provided entertainment. The food? Generic salad, chicken dish, potato, etc. It was good but not spectacular. I suppose that for a small company party with a mostly young, agile crowd the split level design isn't too bothersome. However, I can't think of elderly guests climbing up and down the 20+ flights of stairs. Even for us young female guests wearing heels (and having a wee bit too much alcohol), it was definitely a trial of all sorts. Most of the guests who were seated upstairs (after having their meals) moved to the first floor to mingle and much of the second floor became wasted space. Everyone here had a good time but future brides/party planners should take into account their guests' needs when dealing with the split level design. read more

Private venue set in a historic building hosts primarily private events, very high end with top notch bands that do not disappoint. Tonight, the Skyrocket Band is playing, they have a great setting for all your wedding or corporate event needs, call them up and ask for Debrah~~ you won't be disappointed. They don't serve food but the drinks are stiff and it's equipped with two bars to quench your thirst. Star Pizza is right next door for a quick bite, or stop by J Black's as we did and have dinner before the show. Parking via valet in the back. read more

My experience with Rockefeller Hall and Lisa, the owner, was incredibly positive. My husband and I fell in love with the beautiful old-Houston feel and the history of the building immediately. The split level design was wonderful because it allowed for an easy flip from ceremony to reception, and a place away from the rocking dance floor when people needed a rest. For guests unable to traverse the stairs, Lisa and her staff made sure they were cared for on the bottom floor throughout the evening. For those of you considering a summer wedding like me, the AC here works great even through the July heat. .Booking here is like getting all the best parts about a wedding planner and venue all in one. Lisa and her staff run everything day-of beautifully, and leading up to the wedding Lisa provides great recommendations and input for anything you need while also allowing you to create the day you envision without any pushy advice. I planned most of my wedding from out-of-state, and Lisa was always willing to communicate via e-mail and schedule me time whenever I could come in to town. In the 10 or so days leading up to my wedding, every e-mail was answered very promptly (some literally within minutes!) and her attention to detail and the smooth and thorough rehearsal made everything run beautifully day-of. I worked with Lisa's florist as well, and my flowers (with the tons of candles in different holders she provides free) were both affordable and stunning. Her is house catering was delicious -- not cheap, but we got food that was both interesting and truly delicious. I seriously recommend the spare ribs off the bone if you want a delicious non-traditional entree. The ready-room we had access to all day was a great place to spend the day with the girls getting ready in tranquility and really helped make all day feel incredibly special for my bridesmaids, Mom and MOL, and myself because we could all be together comfortably (about 10 of us plus 2 hair/make-up!) in one place. Overall, having my ceremony and reception at Rockefeller Hall was the best wedding decision I made (besides the groom of course!). Lisa is both a wonderful planner and person, and she and her staff did an amazing job bringing my cloudy vision to a stunning reality while keeping the stress levels and confusion low for me and my family. read more

Saw Nina Diaz here on 4/20. Stage with standing room though got here early enough to grab a small table to watch the opening band, Wild Moccasins. Clean bathrooms and bar. The bartender didn't have many options besides beer and typical selection of mixed drinks. However we hit a couple of bars within a short walking distance so consider doing that before entering. No worries getting there just before start of show as anywhere you stand you'll get a good view of the stage. Took an Uber here so can't write about the parking situation. read more

Our daughter recently got married and held the wedding ceremony and reception at Rockefeller Hall. We couldn't have been happier with the great service, care, friendliness and attention to detail that everyone at Rockefeller Hall showed us in the months leading up to the wedding, as well as during the wedding itself. We never had to worry about a thing and instead could sit back and enjoy the celebration. The venue itself is unique; we loved all of the old marble and columns. There were about 130 guests at the wedding and that seemed to be a good number for the space. If we had any more daughters to marry off, we would INSIST that they go directly to Houston and use Rockefeller Hall! read more

I wanted to love this place, I really did. I even liked it a lot, but not for our size of a wedding. If we were to have less than 100 guests, then I think it would have worked out wonderfully. The wedding coordinator we met with was great and very professional. There is no bride/groom room, so they use some space in the salon next door. For our 200 guests, more than half of them would be forced to sit upstairs, leaning over the balcony, to see the ceremony. I did make the fiance promise to have our anniversary party (with less friends) here in several years. Their prices were competitive, but it just burns me up that people would be upstairs for the ceremony. Also, the fiance and my dad began to be annoyed with split-level venues in general. They did not want guests having to travel up and down stairs, it just seemed it would split the party up. gorgeous place though and on washington so the after-party is just a stumble away! read more

Rockefeller's is OPEN! I believe either new management or new thinking by existing management has reopened it as the live music venue it always was until the mid 90's when it transitioned into a space to rent for parties and events. They have a concert calendar on their website as well as Facebook, Instagram, etc... was always one the better live music venues in Houston and it's back baby! Balcony, tables with actual chairs, good bar. Going tonight for an inaugural day rock night with 6 bands for $8. At one time it was heights bank and the vault is the dressing room for the artists/musicians. Great place. Parking is tough though but that's the same for most places in the heights. They have valet and there are a couple pay lots within walking distance. read more

Back in the 80's, I was a frequent visitor to Rockefellers for live music. I remember seeing Bobby Blue Bland, UB40, Hal Ketchum and Albert King among others. I was a fan of the venue then and nothing has changed. I have been wanting to attend an event when the opportunity arose and NYE with Skyrocket was the perfect chance. Valet parking was exceptional. Bar service while expensive was responsive. The place is a beautiful gem and the current ownership are keeping things up for special events like corporate parties, wedding receptions etc. Sure they don't have bathrooms in the balcony but the dance floor was nice and the decor was classy. I can't wait to come back soon. Anyone looking for a unique venue for a special event should give them a call! read more

Choose another venue. These people will tell you one thing and then say something completely different the next day, that is if you can even get a response out of them. They will delay your proposals as much as possible. They will overcharge you. They will try to make your event more expensive every time they talk to you. They will not live up to their obligations, even if it is in the contract, and your event will resemble a back yard how down. If you are thinking about this place, please do your self a favor and run away as quickly as you can. read more
