I was really excited to finally try this spot and left feeling a little less disappointed that it took me so long to get here. About everything was average at best, compounded by the fact that our waitress was about as thrilled to be working as the bowling pins were to be knocked down repeatedly. Fun place next to my kid's medical school so was hoping for no riffraff and I was right! The salad I got was great! Tons of shredded carrots, which I love! We had one of their signature pizzas, I think it was called the Roni, which had three types of pepperoni. We asked for it well done and it came out but I would say normal done. With the three types of pepperoni it was very rich. Next time I think I would just get one type. It reminded both my son and myself of Costco Pizza on steroids. Costco has pretty good pizza. Please don't be smack talking it! But the crust and overall taste was eerily similar. My wife had some sort of wrap that she liked that came with hand cut in-house fries. They are a real stand out!! Like it would be worth it just to come here for the fries!! Thick but fried dark brown and seasoned well. The beignets for dessert were very good!! leave room! This place has wood-fired style pizza and I like that you can customize exactly what you want. They even have dairy-free cheese, which is great for me! We enjoyed the fresh Greek salad before our customized pizzas came out. Our server was kind and the food was ready very quickly. This place is perfect for a quick eat, a drink and a little fun before a night out either downtown or in midtown. Tucked away on Madison, this place has indoor mini-bowling lanes and several tv's to catch a game. I also loved that they had a garage patio, where we were able to sit inside but also enjoy the breeze. We were quickly seated and served. We got the 12 inch pepperoni pizza, which came out in about 10 minutes. We also both had a reasonably-priced "Love Me Tender". OK so I think we got the margarita pizza not all the way sure but I will say while the pizza looks good this particular one, the sauce tasted like sauce that goes on spaghetti and not pizza sauce if you know what I mean. It just threw the entire taste off because it tasted like spaghetti sauce, and that really bothered me and That was disappointing but the drinks were good and reasonably priced. The pretzels were really good however definitely not worth $12 but anyway they do not have TVs outside yet and so we were inside watching the basketball game and the baseball game. It was a bit chilly in there so that was kind of a bit uncomfortable but overall once they get TVs outside, it will be a better experience because the bowling pins were also pretty loud as you're trying to eat and watch TV because they're just so close to all the action that's going on. I've been waiting for this place to open for so long lol So for my first time I got chicken Alfredo and beignets because I was craving pasta. The chicken Alfredo had Cavatappi pasta noodles (spiral macaroni) which I loved tbh really holds the sauce in. All in all pretty solid pasta. The beignets were soft and warm. I got the puree on the side which is def the way to go. The bartender was pretty chill and talked to me as soon as I sat down. Food came out super quick which is always a plus. Stick with me to the end, because this is a very positive review of Rock'n Dough. As American restaurant consumers, have we become conditioned to bad restaurant service? Have we suffered from bad service for so long that the new low bar is now our basic expectation? Our experience tonight at Rock'n Dough in Memphis was the complete opposite of that. What we had tonight is what the expectation of great service used to be. Sara, our server, was friendly, attentive, good-humored, and full of great food suggestions. One of our meals was slower to come from the kitchen than the rest, and then that late meal came out in two separate plates a couple of minutes apart. Not a big deal. We didn't complain at all, and it never really crossed our mind to do such. But Sara was very apologetic about the kitchen delay, and then the manager came to apologize and comped us that one meal, one of our salads, and maybe one of our beers. We also had an unexpected delivery of beignets for desert. That's the type of service I haven't had in forever and, really, what we should expect. BTW - all of the food - pizza, calzone, cheese sticks, Caesar salad, and beignets - was awesome...as were the beers. If you have never had R&D pizza, I highly recommend it. We have eaten their pizza back to when they use to set up at the downtown Farmer's Market, Trolley Stop, other R&D locations around Memphis. The new location is by the Orleans Station apartments. They have an extensive menu. Pizza (of course), calzones, pasta, salads, burgers, sandwiches, misc appetizers, and desserts. And a nice selection of spirits if you are so inclined. My review though is more about their customer service than their food. Last night we ordered a pepperoni pizza for delivery via Uber Eats. Arrived on time, but unfortunately it was the wrong pizza. I called R&D and explained what happened. After being told they had no onsite delivery, I expected to be told to go through Uber Eats for a refund and to reorder. Instead Eric, the district manager, after checking our location said he would have a pepperoni pizza made and he would deliver it himself. Not only did he deliver our pizza he gave us cards for an hour of bowling (Yes they have miniature 10 pin bowling) and for free beignets w a purchase. I tried to give him a tip at least for his gas. He politely declined it. Just wanted to be sure we gave them another try. Seriously?? As I mentioned we love their pizza, mistakes happen, and his response could not have been better.
