I can't bring myself to go in here and it's sad. Good product selection and lots of inventory but the customer service is so bad, I'd rather just drive down the street to WalMart. I'm looking at my 3 receipts from TT ( all within the past 3 weeks) so they probably remember - maybe not- 1.) 370.87 2.) 247.81 3.) 301.49 This place, you walk in and all of the sales people just look at you like you're going to rob the place. No hello, "What's going on" - just stares. The last time I went in -June 13 2025 - I can't remember- maybe 100.00 bucks total. I go up to the counter, put my stuff on and the old dude goes " what?" With this look on his face like I just asked for all the contents of his cash register. " how's it going?" Says I " oh, yeah" he says - "is this it?" " he says. It's that moment I decided I would never spend another dollar in this place. It's like the tourist trap of retail fish and hunting supply. And don't even get me started on how nasty the female sales gal was 2 weeks ago. I get it you hate working here but I can't help that! Find another job. Go back to school! I hate walking in to a place excited to spend a few dollars on things I need for a weekend of fishing and kinda get the whole good vibes broken by a place like this - Sales Associates? I've been dealing with tackle town for 30 plus yrs. I ve bought Rods , reels , & fire arms . at present I have several reels in for repairs . They do a very quality job . This place knows their tackle! The shop is sorta divided into two areas when you walk in. To the left is the fishing tackle, and to the right is the fishing clothing. I went in for tackle- they've got everything you can imagine for tackle- it focuses on saltwater, of course. They have lots and lots going on in here. They seem to know all about the fishing conditions, what's biting where, on what, and so on. My fav is to hang out by the registers and eavesdrop on the conversations with the shop clerks to know where to go fish. The prices are fair. The selection is deep. The clerks were friendly and fast getting me checked out. They sorta act like you must be an expert angler to be in here, so why would you need help? I appreciate that they have free publications by the exit that allow you to learn a bit more about fishing in the area, or where to hire someone who does. Parking is easy. This store is big!! The personnel greet you as you walk in, ready to help. I asked the clerk for wood handle filet knives and he walked me over to the selection. Large selection too of different sizes, blade shapes and different handles too. I chose mine, and then went through the aisles to see what they offered. I was very impressed by the variety and high quality of products throughout. I did notice the Costa sunglasses, which is a brand that I truly love! I found a great tape measure to measure my fish. It was actually labeled with the state regulations for size and daily limits. And I found a 12 foot stringer so I could keep my fish in the water, helps when I forget to bring the ice chest. It's a much larger selection that Walmart where I got my rod and reel. But I need to practice first on inexpensive equipment. Tackle Town will definitely be my go-to shop for my fishing gear investments. This is a well stocked place to visit for everyone who comes to Rockport to fish. Just to see the variety. There's lots of very specialized items for very specific fishing purposes and parts for equipment. The other half of the store is clothing, which I did not even venture over to look at. But it was a lot!! I will save it for my next visit. A great reason to return. I liked that all the personnel was friendly, approachable, helpful and quick with checking out. ** I spent almost $1k on new equipment and clothing. One of the new Penn reels had an issue on he very first day. I returned and asked them to look at it TWO days later. I was told that they did not have time and I was told that I should return it to Penn. When I pointed out that it was purchased from them two days ago I was told that it was corroded and beat up because of an extremely extremely small scratch that obviously would have nothing to do with the reeling action. I was cussed and verbally assaulted by what I assume was the owner and was once again told to return it to Penn. I SAID I WOULD RETURN ALL ITEMS PURCHASED AND WAS TOLD BY THE OWNER "I DO NOT CARE!!!" We were in Rockport visiting grandchildren and for game warden fishing tournament, I somehow broke the bale on my Penn spinning reel so went in to tackle town to see about getting it repaired ...walked in and wasn't greeted more like a glare from 2 staff members ..1 if which I was informed was owner ..after few minutes I was acknowledged ..only to be told "can't help you" Very rude! This place has a massive selection of stuff and some of it is hard to find anywhere offline(local made lures and such). It's nice to get your hands on some of it and consider a purchase. Sometimes they are missing exactly the size/model/color of thing you need, but if you're not too picky, they probably have it. It's not cheap. You'll spend more than you would even at Walmart, and about the same as a baitstand or gas station. I'd always assumed the service would be better than Walmart. I tried to return perfectly undamaged sunglasses because they were crap. Just didn't work well at all. I was told the return wouldn't be accepted because they'd been worn. Once. Sunglasses. I'm not talking underwear here, and even then, $50 products can be returned to the supplier for being crap. I was flatly refused a return on a customer satisfaction basis. The staff is not knowledgeable, except for a few guys, most of them are just store help; so don't expect well trained or informed outdoors enthusiasts. Just people too dim to understand that the only way a person knows a thing sucks is to use it and notice it sucks. Buyer beware I guess. To Amazon for me! read more

I recently purchased a pair of shorts from Tackle Town and found that they were too large. I also realized that I lost the receipt; however, no problem with an exchange. The owner was more than happy to help me. I was so relieved, I ended up exchanging them for fishing gear, and spent nearly $200 more! I've read reviews here about bad customer service at Tackle Town. When I have those issues at any establishment, I attempt to speak with owner/manager to resolve the matter - in other words, someone who can do something about it, vs. complaining here or elsewhere to people who can do nothing about it. If you are going to complain, take it in a constructive direction. Don't be a victim, be a help. Tackle Town owners are good people; I believe they care and want to know if a customer is unhappy. We throw down a lot money in this local business and you think that you wouldn't have to thank the owner when he rings you up. Seems like he should be the one doing the thanking. We popped in here for some fishing license, but this places sells almost everything you'll need for fishing and hunting. The selection of various supplies were great, but the prices seemed bit higher than HEB and WalMart. The young dude working the counter wasn't too helpful when we asked him for some fishing advise. But overall, this is a good place to pop into if you need to get your license or restock any of your supplies. Good selection but poor customer service. I would not recommend shopping here. I asked for an exchange after purchasing a product from their store and was gruffly told it wasn't their problem because they didn't manufacture the product. I understand their position but to be abruptly told it wasn't their issue when attempting to exchange several hundred dollars worth of merchandise but when I was shopping they spent 30 min with me giving details of the product is a demonstration of poor management. Outstanding customer service. Ask where to fish, what to fish with, they offer it up. They've repaired my rods when I've had guides break, fast and affordable. They carry every kind of artificial lure available, quality rods & reels, etc. The owner is even credited with much of the information found in the hook & line maps, a must have resource for fishing the areas. read more

Extremely disappointed after being a loyal customer that today when I tried to exchange a shirt (worn once) with the hem unraveling, the shirt could not be exchanged because it was too worn. Had a special rod from father repaired on the spot by Chris and fully anticipated paying to $25 plus but was only charged $4, wow!, Went back two days later to buy new rod & reel as the one repaired was stolen by a LOSER. Anyway, very helpful with selection as was on a limited budget. Was good to know that money does not appear to be "king" there. The prices were competitive with Academy's so all is good.
